Kevin Patrick Allen has been a reporter from sea to shining sea, telling stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges. Now, he’s produced a documentary called “What Comes Next” that examines what happens when you lose a dream, lose a loved one, or even lose your freedom. The project was an opportunity to go beyond the skipping-stone nature of today’s journalism into a deeper exploration of the human condition.
In this podcast, Kevin takes us behind-the-scenes into the stories he featured in his documentary:
- Chad, an X-Games champion, who suffered a terrible crash.
- Beverly and Linda, whose triumph and tragedy intersected after the suicide of a teenager.
- Joe and Reggie, who languished on death row.
We discuss how these stories share a common struggle, how different people find a meaningful future after experiencing tremendous loss, and what we can learn from their journeys.
