About Autism Labs

Helping families with profoundly autistic children

Autism Labs is a supportive community for those caring for low-functioning adults with autism. Whether you’re a parent, teacher or professional, our podcast is your resource for real-world solutions.

You’ll find conversations with experts on challenges like aggression, eating disorders (e.g., Pica), epilepsy, and incontinence, along with discussions on therapies and medications. We offer practical advice, how-to videos and insights from both home and community settings.

We encourage you to ask questions, share experiences, and learn from others facing similar challenges. You’re not alone, we’re here to help you navigate this journey with support and real solutions.

I'm the father of a son with profound autism, and this podcast exists because of what we couldn't find when we needed it.

I spent my career in software and brand naming — thirty-plus years running NameStormers, where our team named CarMax, Angry Orchard and Tru by Hilton. Useful work, and it taught me one thing that carried over: if you test enough approaches honestly, you eventually find the ones that work.

When my wife Kay and I couldn't find a path for our son, we moved to Austin and spent six years building a home-based program with University of Texas faculty. He started to thrive. That program grew into J13, a nonprofit for adults with complex special needs after school supports end at 22.

Autism Labs is how we share the rest. Every week I talk with parents, teachers, behavior analysts, physicians and researchers about the hard stuff — aggression, sleep, seizures, eating, guardianship, what happens at 22 — and bring back what's actually working.

You're not doing this alone.
