This is such a cozy listen, even when the episode centers on a not-so-cozy film. This isn’t the kind of movie podcast where you’ll get the scoop on behind-the-scenes mayhem or the various quirks of production (yes, we know the damn shark was broken), but rather what a film says to us now. Alex Steed is a phenomenal host, who brings a wry sense of humor balanced with an incredibly generous capacity for compassion and humanity. Sarah Marshall is at the top of her game, witty and inspiring. Their individual backgrounds bring such a unique frame to each film featured, and the pair’s long friendship only serves to heighten the conversation.
I really appreciate how down to earth this show feels, even when discussing the most unearthly of films. One of the shows best features is its ability to find unexpected connection to the films, bolstered by a diverse rotation of guests. Too often I find myself reaching for a forgotten favorite or discovering a new movie that scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. Especially right now, while it feels like the world is crumbling, You Are Good is a hopeful, bright piece of humanity.
