Lazy AND Crazy

16

Lazy people consider themselves smarter
than seven wise counselors.

17

Interfering in someone else’s argument
is as foolish as yanking a dog’s ears.

18

Just as damaging
as a madman shooting a deadly weapon

19

is someone who lies to a friend
and then says, “I was only joking.”

The lazy person's self-importance is foolish. Jumping into other people's arguments is as risky as trying to break up a dog fight—you’re likely to get hurt.

Just like someone who fakes being angry to cause trouble, a person who harms their neighbor and then says, "Just kidding!" is not to be trusted.

Think about this: In our society, verse 17 might make it seem like we should never get involved in other people's problems. But if someone is being abused—whether it's a wife, child, or even a husband—we must stand up for those who are weak and vulnerable.
