Midlife Fashion - Trying On Something Completely Different

Midlife Fashion - Trying On Something Completely Different

The best part about having a podcast for women in midlife is the access we have to so many incredible guests. One recent conversation with Suzy Turner, aka The Grey Brunette, left me thinking a little about what I want my midlife style to be.

Suzy is a lifestyle and fashion blogger and a few years ago she picked up a camera and started taking pictures of herself while donning her favorite clothes and accessories. She obviously loves fashion and wants other women in midlife to enjoy it as well. Her confidence radiates through her photos, and you can't help but enjoy her enthusiasm and willingness to push the fashion envelope just a tad.

Finding clothes that are fun, feel good, look great, and that don't fade into the background (as many feel like we should) can be hard. I've struggled with it. But there's one little tidbit of advice that Suzy shared that I can't wait to try. She said that women, ALL women, should grab one or two items of clothing that they would normally never choose for themselves before they enter the changing room.

"Try on one item that you think just wouldn't work for you and put it on," she said. "Really look at yourself and if you want, take pictures."

The idea is that midlife is the time to try new things -- and to stop assuming that certain colors and styles don't work for you. Get a little weird and funky and go for something bright, or daring, or beautiful. Give it a go and you might be surprised by what you discover.
