Cycles of Economy

Much like other cycles in our life, there are cycles to our Economy. We all know what happened in 2008 with the housing market leading to one of the biggest recessions in the modern era, and again we are feeling the effects of inflations and possibly another looming recession.

Why does it seem we get into these cycles? Why can't we just have moments of continual growth? Is there more to it that we can learn from?
