The Boys Season 4 Episode 2 - The Smartest Man in the Room

We've got surprise cameos, twisted revelations, and enough to prave shenanigans to make even the most jaded viewer blush. Spoilers ahead, let's dive in, shall we? First off, can we talk about that opening scene with a train. Turns out they're making a movie about his life, and who do they cast as his brother coach? None other than Will Freakin Ferrell. I mean, I love the guy, but talk about whitewashing. Poor a Tran can't catch a break even when it comes to his own biopic. Meanwhile, over at Vaught, they're trying to figure out how to market Homelander's son Ryan as the next big thing. Enter sister Sage, the supposed genius who's not afraid to tell it like it is. She shoots down the idea of making Ryan a mini Homelander, arguing that he needs to be his own man one if you will. Homelander's not thrilled about sharing the spotlight, but he goes along with it for now. Back at Boys HQ, Butcher finally comes clean about his terminal V induced condition, and instead of a group hug, he gets the boot from MM Harsh. But I guess that's what happens when you're more of a liability than an asset. The team splits up to follow two leads, Starlight and Huey Tail a train to try and clear some falsely accused Starlighters, while MM, Frenchy and Kimico follow Sage to a right wing nutjob convention called truth Con. And let me tell you, the scenes at truth Con are

1:34 some of the most cringe inducing, hilarious, and disturbingly accurate satire I've seen in a while. We're introduced to two new soups, Firecracker, a YouTube conspiracy theorist who makes Alex Jones look like Walter Cronkite, and Splinter, her creepy sidekick who can clone himself endlessly. MM and the crew try to spy on Sage's meeting with these two, but it turns out to be a trap qan absolutely bonkers fight scene and a horde of naked Splinter clones, a crashed bar Mitzvah, and more severed limbs than you can shake a crowbar at Butcher shows up just in time to save the day, but the damage is done on the a train front. Starlight and Huey watch as he tries to connect with his nephews, only to be shut down by his brother Nathan, who exposes a train's fake hero persona. But in a surprising twist, a train later shows up at boys HQ with evidence to clear the accused Starlighters. Maybe there's a shred of decency in him after all. The episode ends with a gut punch as Homelander crashes Ryan's first big solo rescue, splattering the poor kid's stunt coach against a wall in the process. Ryan's traumatized, but Homelander just sees it as a teaching moment about the expendability of us mere mortals. Father of the Year, folks, There's so much more I could talk about, Hughey's tense reunion with his mom, Frenchy's dark past coming back to haunt him, Kimico's drunken rampage, but I think you get the gist. This episode was a PERFCX of biting social commentary, character development, and over the top

3:04 action. The Boys continues to hold a mirror up to our own messed up world and the reflection ain't pretty, but that's what makes it so compelling, even as it shocks and disgusts.
