0:03 Kalaroga Shark Media. Hey they're Force fanatics. It's your host Journey Joe coming at you from deep in the TV basement. Today, we're diving into episode four of The Acolyte, the new Star Wars series that's taking us back to the High Republic era, a time when the Jedi were at the height of their power and the Scyth were believed to be extinct Or were they. Episode four, titled Day, continues the slow Burn mystery that's been unfolding this season. Our main players, the vengeful dark Side user May, her Jedi sister Osha, and their respective allies all converge on the forested planet Kofar in search of Klnaka, a reclusive Wookie Jedi who was part of the mission that fractured the sisters relationship years ago. There's a lot to unpack here, so let's start with the journey defined kel Naka. The Jedi team, led by Master Saul and now joined by a reluctant Osha, trek through some gorgeously shot wilderness that's giving me major endoor vibes. They face some classic Star Wars creature action in the form of the Umbramoth, a giant insectoid that seems to just be protecting its turf. The Jedi dispatch it pretty ruthlessly for a bunch of space monks supposedly in tune with all living things. Food for thought there. Meanwhile, May and her scoundrel sidekick Camir are also hot on Kelnaka's trail. There's a lot of intrigue around Kamir's true identity and allegiance to May's mysterious Sith Master.
1:30 Could he be the Master himself hiding in plain sight? The episode keeps dropping anvil sized hints in that direction. Personally, I'm hoping for a bit more of a twist, but we'll see. The real heart of the episode, though, is the internal conflict facing the two sisters. Osha, back among the Jedi for the first time in years, finds her connection to the force returning, along with some major doubts about confronting her sister. May meanwhile, has a sudden and frankly pretty abrupt change of heart, deciding she wants to and in her dark path and reconcile with Osha. It's a bit of whiplash after three episodes of unwavering vengeance, but hey, I'm all for a good redemption arc. Of course, this being Star Wars, things culminate in a shocking cliffhanger. Our teams arrive at Kelnaka's hideout, only to find the poor Wookie already slain by a lightsaber, and the culprit appears to be May's Sith Master, a sinister, hovering figure in a freaky venom like mask who tosses the Jedi aside like rag Doll's. It's a chilling introduction that raises the stake's big time going into next week. Overall, while a bit uneven in its pacing and character development, Episode four still delivers some solid Star Wars thrills and deepens the central mystery. The Jedi Council's attempts to keep a lid on the Syth threat showcase, the hubris and denial that will ultimately be their downfall, and the tantalizing glimpses of a new Sith villain have me eager to see where this story is headed.
