More fun than an open casket funeral
Jerry Horror’s The Offering has become one of my favorite horror podcasts. His respect for the artists and the source material behind the films he reviews comes through in every breakdown. Each episode is packed with deep lore, funny stories, and unfiltered opinions that only Jerry can deliver. Unlike many creators, Jerry understands the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making a film, and he never belittles someone’s work just to elevate himself. That appreciation, combined with his punk-rock attitude, is what makes The Offering stand out among kill counters and pretentious critics. If you read this review to the end, leave three eggplant emojis in the comments..... see what i did there?
Blood, Guts, and Barton
The new Tenacity and Wisdom of Steve Barton episode might be one of the strongest things Jerry Horror has put out. I’ve listened to The Offering for a while, but this one hit different. Hearing Steve Barton (Dread Central's Uncle Creepy himself) open up about his career, the loss, the mentorships, and all the behind-the-scenes scars of horror journalism felt honest in a way most podcasts never pull off. The Terrifier discussion was intense, too. Jerry gave Steve the space to lay everything out clearly and honestly. Steve didn’t hold back about standing firmly with Catherine Corcoran as she takes legal action against the Terrifier team. It was the kind of conversation you almost never get to hear from someone who helped push that franchise into the spotlight. Compared to the other shows I listen to (Post Mortem, Colors of the Dark, and a few others) Jerry’s style feels more personal and grounded. It’s like listening to a real conversation instead of something overly produced or rehearsed. If you care about horror history, indie filmmaking, or the people behind the scenes, this episode is absolutely worth your time. Team Barton and Team Corcoran all the way.
Jerry Horror Goes Full Loomis
The Halloween Ends video special was peak Offering. Funny, fiery, and totally fed up in a Dr. Loomis kind of way. I listen to Dead Meat and We Hate Movies, but Jerry’s show has its own vibe. It’s more like swapping horror rants with a friend who actually knows every cursed story in the book. Rambly in spots, sure but that’s part of the charm.
Jerry’s TikToks got me in the door, but the podcast kept me here
I actually found Jerry Horror on TikTok first, his quick reviews always popped up on my FYP. I liked those, but once I checked out The Offering podcast I got hooked. The short videos are fun, but the podcast lets him really dig into the crazy production stories. Episodes like “The Worst Horror Sequel of All-Time?” and “We Have Freddy Krueger At Home” are my favorites. Jerry tells the stories like he’s sitting across the table at a bar, and you can tell he’s done his research. It’s kind of like if Last Podcast on the Left cut the goofing in half and just went deep on the movie history. Sometimes he rambles a bit or goes off track, but honestly that’s part of the charm. The show feels personal, not corporate. If you’re into horror history and those “you won’t believe what went wrong” stories, this one’s worth binging.
Regular Listener since Season 2
I’ve been listening to The Offering with Jerry Horror for a few years now, and I genuinely look forward to the Fall run every season. Jerry has a knack for digging up those weird behind-the-scenes details and troubled production stories that most podcasts either gloss over or don’t even bother with. That’s the real strength of this show, he clearly does his homework. That said, I think Season 4 was a bit uneven. For example, “The Boz Button” episode was fun, and Jerry’s enthusiasm for 90s action cheese is infectious. But it felt like he skimmed through some of the actual production hurdles, it leaned more into summarizing the movie than unpacking why it became a cult oddity. When Jerry does get into the deep cuts, like Michael Douglas pulling his name from the credits, that’s when the show shines. I just wish there was more of that than play-by-play recaps. On the flip side, the Halloween Special “The Pixelated Predator” was exactly the kind of thing I tune in for. Obscure title, wild production backstory, and the tragic “what could’ve been” of a horror/video game crossover. Jerry nailed that balance of nostalgia, trivia, and critique. More of this energy, please. The St. Patrick’s Day Liam Neeson special was a fun detour, but it kind of felt like filler compared to the usual format. I like when Jerry ties episodes to holidays, but this one stretched thin, it came off more like a filmography overview than a troubled production story. Still enjoyable, but not essential listening. Overall, I think Jerry’s at his best when he sticks to his lane: cursed productions, overlooked genre films, and the little nuggets of trivia that make you go “no way, that really happened?” That’s why I’ll keep listening, but I’d love to see Season 5 tighten its focus back on those messy, behind-the-scenes war stories that make The Offering unique.
The only movie podcast you will ever need
The Offering quickly became my favorite movie podcast and here is why. Jerry gets under the hood and deep dives into the wild lore and unspoken hollywood tales of some of my favorite films. I don’t need my movie podcasts to break down screenplays or explain to me film theory. I want more of what Jerry does! Every episode feels like it’s story time, and my older brother or fun uncle is telling me some wild story behind a favorite movie of mine. I learn, I’m entertained, and I laugh a few times. It’s got heart! Give him a listen. Now.
Pitch Perfect!
The Offering is a perfect podcast. Factual without being pretentious. A charismatic and hysterical host. Deep dives into films that mostly get looked over. Jerry is the best and I have listened to most shows multiple times. Thank you for your Xanadu love, but please don’t speak ill of the latter Jaws sequels. They are gold lol.
Appreciating the education....more please!
Jerry Horror #1: Jerry Horror has a pleasant voice. I can easily listen to him for an hour (going in hour 4 or 5 now) without getting neurological/pain symptoms often triggered from high pitched women & men who should consider identifying as women. I never understood what Fan Films were nor why anyone would make one, until Jerry cleared this mystery up for me. When confused about moviemaking, I know I can turn to Jerry with my questions to receive a clear, opinionated answer. I really get off on BAD movies-especially the kind made by a director, cast & crew really TRYING to make a GOOD movie. Thanks to Jerry, I learned allll about the making of what I learned is known by many as “the worst sequel of all time”: Exorcist 2. I really never cared for Exorcist & any of its fans, nor good reviews about this movie….but now I reallllly want to see Exorcist 2, to see what people were so UPSET about. Jerry said people in 1 theater hated the movie soooo much that they insisted upon speaking to the filmmakers, after they found out the filmmakers were in the theater. It’s this piece of info that makes me want to complete & share my own movies, 1 day.id like to hear Jerry cover more movie disasters & bad reviews….Any idiot can make people happy. It takes a special person to really upset society! In one interview with Sean Q. King, horror was compared to porn. As a younger Jen, I had a bigger love for horror….and for porn. As I’ve gotten older, both porn & horror are not as Interesting as I found them to be in my youth. Porn is for the youth? I never called myself a FAN before, but after listening to Jerry Horror’s interview with Sean Q. King, I’ve gone from vocal hater to calling myself an actual fan. Sean mentioned that FUN should he in filmmaking, which seems to be a detail many creators have forgotten. I want to HAVE FUN Making & watching movies. I hope Jerry gives 1 of the movies I’m in a scathingly bad review 1 day….one can dream….
My Uber driver recommended this
Big shout out to Gary for introducing me to this podcast
Loving this new season!
Jerry’s deep dives are second to none! I can’t believe how much I learned from each episode it’s insane. Now all I do all day is bother my wife with all these fun facts!
Excellent
I really enjoy these movie deep dives. Jerry knows his stuff and seems like a cool guy. I definitely recommend this podcast.
Most Enjoyable!
I started late with this podcast (Beetlejuice Ep), but thankfully you can go back and listen to past ep. Jerry’s voice is very not annoying and the pace of the episodes are right on. You can hear the passion and enjoyment that he brings which is important because if you don’t have that the audience can tell. Keep it up and hopefully one day you can talk about Future Kill.
Mostly Horror Always Jerry
One of the better podcast on horror movies that I’ve listened to. It’s not a whole bunch of dude bros being snarky about the films I love. It’s just one self-depricating dude bro who respects and loves the films he talks about. And I love that. Like a film class with no test. You can take all the information you learned from Jerry and The Offering to your next party or horror con and sound like a genius. Thanks Professor Jerry!
Jerry offers it all!
This is an incredible podcast, it’s an absolute delight to be invited into Jerry’s incredibly knowledgeable mind on a regular basis . If you love content like I do, be it music, movies, tv or more Jerry has a lot to offer you! I love seeing what he’ll dive into each week! Can you think of a better way to spend an hour? Do it!
A little something for everyone here.
Jerry eloquently navigates the lines between genre and nostalgia to give a sometimes funny, sometimes informative and always sincere deep dive into your favorite fandoms of both yesterday and today. At first I cherry picked only the episodes that interests me and found myself looking into episodes about everything from the rise of A24 films to the Hulk Hogan opus: “No Holds Barred”
Jerry does a fantastic job at reviewing horror
I am a new listener and enjoeyed Jerrys discussion of I Know What You Did Last Summer. His content kept me very engaged. Looking forward to his future podcast. Highly recommend. -Kim (the Mummy) True Horror with Wolf and the Mummy.
Excellent show!
I’ve listened to every episode so far, been thoroughly enjoying the dives into movie and music genres, the lore of different franchises, and Jerry’s personal anecdotes sprinkled throughout. It’s a digestible, entertaining show that I look forward to every week. I’d love to hear a show about the Elm Street franchise at some point, or even an Arnold Schwarzenegger retrospective. I’m on board for any future Offerings!
