Though the Opening Ceremonies are not until February 6th, Olympic competition starts in earnest, in 2 days, with luge, curling, and alpine skiing on the menu (with hockey and snowboard added to the list on the 5th).

The CBC's Devin Heroux found a brief moment, while covering The Scotties (of course), to give us an update about big events in both his personal and professional life.

We also talk about the recent passings of his dear friend, curling legend Coleen Jones, and former Minister for Sport Kirsty Duncan, with whom he had occasion to collaborate.

Finally, we get an all-too-brief-given-our-limited-time — we could talk to Devin for hours — 30,000-foot view of the athletes and events to watch for.

Mr. Beaver supplements with some stories of recent successes by athletes and para athletes who have recently made us proud and could be among those to watch
