As Prime Minister Mark Carney is in India to push forward with his objective of diversifying Canadian trade as quickly as possible given the threat we face from the United States, a (according to the New York times) "CIA-assisted Israeli attack on Iran's top officials" has taken out Ayatollah Khamenei, his daughter, and several of his family members, as well as the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard corps, the nation's armed forces Chief of Staff, and its top security advisor.

The combination of increasing trade with a nation with which we have had a recent, very public, and even more intense international diplomatic spat with regard to alleged state-sponsored transnational repression activities, including the alleged extrajudicial killing of a Canadian citizen on their home soil, and the Government of Canada's early hours statement on the situation in the Middle East is being framed by some as being Mark Carney's first potential major missteps of his prime ministership and even proof that he did not mean what he said during his much-praised recent speech in Davos.

Today, we discuss whether there's something to those claims or whether they are just another hot take that will not age well?
