The Rhymer's Corner, speaks with Victoria Boateng, a passionate advocate for autism awareness, who uses her expertise with the djembe drum to make a significant impact. Diagnosed with autism, Victoria found solace and expression through music. She pursued the study of West African drumming and now performs with the all-female groups Ayodele Drum and Dance and She Wolf Sacred Movement.
This episode will also speak with Victoria music collaborator, Tommy Carroll a composer, drummer, and band leader of the music group, Calculated Discomfort. Tommy also discuss with A.Abyla his tales of the trenches as a visual impaired percussionist.
Victoria who is the founder of her organization, "Victoria Djembe" teaches drumming at Chicago Public School, Amelia Earhart STEAM Elementary. Victoria's students alongside their principal, Dr. Benda DeMar-Williams will perform their drumming techniques.
