What's up, weirdos? AO me. Shit. I got me a little something rolled. The lights are low and we're about to chop it up with Abigail on the Manic Pixie Weirdo podcast. A safe space for weirdos of all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds to relax and speak their piece. So grab your glass of wine and grass the chief as I get off the mic so the main weirdo can speak. Peace. Peace. God.

Speaker 2 00:00:23

What is up, weirdos?

Speaker 3 00:00:24

So you're listening to the manic pixie weirdo.

Speaker 2 00:00:26

I'm Abigail, your host, and this is the podcast where we talk about all.

Speaker 3 00:00:30

The different kinds of relationships that we.

Speaker 2 00:00:31

Can have in our lives. And this week, we are doing a mini episode so that I can introduce this series that I have been working on. So the series that I've been working on is about different systems of government. I got really interested in different systems.

Speaker 3 00:00:58

Of government.

Speaker 2 00:01:01

Other than, say, so what I mean by that is, like, systems of government other than capitalism. I feel like we all kind of know what capitalism is. We're all working in it, especially here.

Speaker 3 00:01:19

In the United States.

Speaker 2 00:01:21

It's sort of like inescapable you can't really get away from that specific system of government. Sorry. So I wanted to look into and.

Speaker 3 00:01:37

Sort of explore other forms of governments.

Speaker 2 00:01:41

So don't be scared.

Speaker 3 00:01:43

Don't be too scared.

Speaker 2 00:01:45

We're going to do it together. And I'm only going to do and I decided that I wanted to do, like kind of a shorter series. So we're not going to go through, like, all of the possible different systems of government. We're going to go through, like, three of them. And I don't I don't want to spoil anything, but, yeah, we're we're only going to go through about three different systems of government. And then at the end excuse me, I'm so sorry. And then at the end, we're going to kind of talk about the future and where we think everything lies and what's going on and that kind of thing. But I wanted to do a little mini episode to introduce the series. That way you could kind of get a very general idea of what we're going to be talking about, that sort of thing. So in this series, I really wanted to explore kind of like three I picked three I just picked three systems of government that I thought were really interesting and kind of like in the ether ones that you've probably heard of but might not know a lot about, because I certainly didn't know a lot about any of them, really. I knew, like, basic stuff, kind of like the very general basic idea behind each system of government that I chose. But I didn't know all sort of like the ins and outs and the ideologies and those kinds of things. So I hope I was able to capture at least some of that in the series so that you can have a better understanding of what each one is or what each three of the ones that I picked are. Because like I said, I didn't want to dive into every single different kind.

Speaker 3 00:04:08

Because.

Speaker 2 00:04:11

I wanted to just kind of test this out and see how it goes kind of a thing. And if you all like the series, then I will do like, more series. That's not a word. I will do more series. Not necessarily on systems of government maybe, but I will do other series too, if this goes well. So that's kind of the hope. I think it's going to go okay, but we're going to see. So why did I pick systems of government for the first series for this show? Well, because I've been really interested. I think that it's really in the ether right now, just kind of like with everything that's going on in the world, it can be very overwhelming. It can be very concerning. There's a lot of adjectives that it can be because at least for me, it's very overwhelming, very concerning, very bleak at times. And it can feel like there aren't other options. And I know for myself, I don't like feeling like I don't have options or choices, really. It makes me really nervous and really anxious and very like it can make me really depressed. It can just raise the level of heightened sensory awareness kind of a thing where I just like I want to make sense of it. In order to make sense of the world, I need to understand in order for me to make sense of the world, I want to understand what all these different kinds of things are before I sort of like pick one. And I think that it's very at least right now, it feels like there are a lot of people that are like, well, what are you? Are you a capitalist? Do you subscribe to a capitalist ideology? Like you need to because that's the country that you live in and it's like, well, that's not necessarily the case, I don't think. And for a number of reasons, I don't necessarily think that's the case. And for example, we don't truly live in a capitalistic society here in America. I would argue that it is not a true capitalist society. What it is, is it is socialism or what is perceived as socialism to the rich and dog eat dog capitalism for everybody else. And if you are not wealthy, then you do not deserve to have socialism but everybody else. And so everybody else has to basically try and kill themselves in order to get to a place where you within society deserve, quote unquote, to have all these extra things in. Saying that I don't perceive that as a truly capitalist society. Like, if it was truly capitalist, then everybody would be subjected to the same rules, regulations and that sort of thing, and you wouldn't have capitalism in its purest form, in its truest form where there would be a free market like everybody. If it worked the way that it was supposed to work, like, say on paper, then it would look very different for everybody because you wouldn't have things like monopolies or six countries. Oh, my gosh. No, I meant six companies.

Speaker 3 00:08:52

Excuse me.

Speaker 2 00:08:53

Sort of like ruling everything. And so that's sort of like my viewpoint on capitalism, at least why I didn't cover it in this series. Because, like I said, I feel like we all kind of know what capitalism is because most of us, for the most part, we are in that dog eat dog capitalism group. We haven't reached that point of to the point where we are wealthy enough to get all the perks and stuff of what would be I would perceive and what I would call socialism for the rich. And I got kind of frustrated. It's been very frustrating for me to sort of like I didn't realize how frustrating it would be for me to sort of dive into this because I realized that, like I said before, there are many other choices. There are all these different other sorts of ideologies and choices that you can have. And you don't necessarily have to just think like, I'm a capitalist. That's what I am. I'm a firm capitalist and I don't believe in anything else. I mean, you can do that. That's totally fine. That is an option. You can do that. It's just not one of those things that I particularly care for. Especially since, like I said, I don't think that we live in a purely capitalist society. So I wanted to know what are my other options? What are the alternatives to capitalism? What do they mean? What is the ideology that sets them apart from other sort of systems of government? How do they work? I'm so sorry my allergies are so.

Speaker 3 00:10:48

Bad and it's like early in the morning side quest.

Speaker 2 00:10:54

But anyway, you kind of get the idea. So that's sort of like a little bit about why I wanted to do this because I wanted to explore my choices, my options. It gives me comfort and it calms me down to feel like I have other choices, other options, other things that I can sort of fall back on and go, okay, well, I don't necessarily agree with that because I like the idea of X, Y and Z kind of a thing. Another one of the reasons why I wanted to do this series is because not only was I not really 100% sure what all of the other options were, I also wanted to know why people are sort of gravitating towards these other options. Because to me, as you know, in my experience, it feels like there are a lot of people that are sort of, like, bailing on the capitalism boat and like, you know, and they're like, we need, like, a different way to do this because this way is not working. We're just bailing water out of a sinking ship kind of a thing. And a lot of people are, like, bailing on the capitalism boat, and they're going to all these other different ones. I kind of wanted to go from ship to ship and kind of see what each one was about, what they believe, what the ideologies are, what are the roots. I'm definitely somebody that wants to understand the theory and how it's supposed to work on paper before you kind of bring it into the real world. Now, the thing about sort of, like, ideology and everything kind of looks great on paper. Okay, so everything sounds really, really cool on paper. Everything sounds like, oh, my gosh, that's amazing. It'll totally work on paper. Now, if engineers have taught us anything, is that that is so not true. That is so not true. As somebody who loves the theoretical side of things, especially like the theoretical side of physics and science and stuff like that, like other sciences, I am very much aware of the fact that you can have this brilliant, amazing idea, and you can write it down on paper, and it'll be fantastic. It'll be like, oh, my gosh, that is groundbreaking. That is revolutionary. That is amazing. This will totally work only asterisks to find out that when you bring it into the real world, there are problems, there are issues, because life and, like, humans, and you can't account for every factor kind of a thing. So it's very different, and engineers are really good at that. That's sort of like their job. Engineers are the ones that within society. They're the ones that take all the really cool ideas for stuff and go, okay, yeah, but it's not actually going to work in the real world like this. This is how you make it work. And so I kind of went, and I wanted to try finding some engineers, so to speak, so to speak. Not real engineers, but engineers, so to speak, of each sort of different ideology that I chose and to see how they perceived it. I also really wanted to get the idea of I really want to understand how it works on paper or how it's supposed to work on paper. Because I feel like if I understand how it's supposed to work, then that'll give me a better idea of how to bring it into the real world for each different kind. And we've learned a lot along the way. We have found that, for the most part, everybody is really kind of on the same page, which is really kind of interesting and very like, I find it very cool because, as it turns out, we all have, like, way more in common than we originally thought, or at least I did. I originally thought, I don't know, especially, like I said, here in America, it feels so divided. It feels so like you're either A or B. You're either on this side or you're on this side. You're either Democrat or Republican. You're either a capitalist or you're not. Like, it's all these things. It's like all these ultimatums, very black and white, very this or that, very you have to be this or you're not good or you have to be that or you're bad or whatever. And one of my big issues with sort of like that way of thinking is that it's not realistic. Like I said, it's just not realistic because most of your life is lived in the gray. It is not lived in the black and white. There are times when you are presented with choices in your life that are pretty black and white. It's kind of like you're either going to do this or you're not, kind of a thing. But other times, and most of the time, I would argue that your life is lived in the gray where it's just kind of like you're floating and it's very not free, but it's very fluid and you're just kind of ebbing in and out, and you're just kind of going with it, and you kind of got to just figure it out as you go. And you're presented with all these choices. And really the ultimate decision is up to you and you have to figure out which one of these choices is the best for you and your family or whatever or your dog or whatever the choice may be. It really kind of bothers me that we're so extreme oriented in the sense that you have to abide by this specific ideology when it comes to government or not. And if you don't, then, like, you're wrong or you're bad somehow. And to me, that doesn't like, that doesn't address anything. That's just kind of like passing the buck off. And it's not really like you're not solving any problems. You're just kind of saying, well, that's not good because they don't think like me. And so I'm over it and I'm just going to completely dismiss anything that you have to say instead of actually listening and trying to understand where people are coming from. And so that's another one of the reasons why I really wanted to do this series was because I kind of wanted to open a dialogue and give you an idea of a very general, very basic like the people that I interviewed for this series, I basically told them, I need you to explain it. Like, I'm a five year old. That's how basic I want to get with understanding this. I need to understand it on that level first because if I can't even understand it on that level, then what's the point? Kind of then I have no business even attempting to try and do something like this. But I really wanted to sort of open a dialogue and open a form of communication where we can sit and just listen or have your own thoughts and feelings about, like so this is what this specific type of system of government is. This is like one way that you can have a form of government. And there are all different kinds. Like I said, there's so many different kinds. I just picked three. I just picked the big three that I had noticed were the most common with the people that I had interacted with and the ones that I found the most interesting, kind of and so there's really no other rhyme or reason as to why I chose these. It's not because it's propaganda. No, I just literally picked them because I feel like it would be they're the kind of the most basic ones as far as understanding what they are. And I feel like everybody is a little bit familiar with each kind, with each of the ones that I chose. So that's kind of I wanted to give like a broad spectrum, but I didn't want to do capitalism. I just really didn't want to do capitalism because I felt like it's been done, it's overdone. We all know, like, I didn't want to beat that drum or whatever, if that makes sense.

Speaker 3 00:20:44

That's kind of like just a little bit of explanation as to why I'm doing it the way that I'm doing it. I just wanted to kind of let you guys know that that was what we were going to be doing for the next couple of weeks and giving you a very general idea of the kinds of things we'll be talking about.

Speaker 2 00:21:09

I hope it goes well.

Speaker 3 00:21:10

I hope you guys like it. I thought it was really interesting. So another reason kind of like, why I'm doing it is because, as you guys know, I'm going back to school. And so I feel like it would help me a little bit to kind of go on this journey and solidify my understanding of all of these different kinds of things. So I hope it gives you all a better understanding of kind of the types, the ideologies behind them, the feel of them, sort of the vibe.

Speaker 2 00:21:54

What'S.

Speaker 3 00:21:54

Going on with each of these other forms of government. And I really kind of want to approach this from an educational standpoint as.

Speaker 2 00:22:02

Far as, like, it gives you choices, it gives you options.

Speaker 3 00:22:07

So if you're like I don't really like capitalism. I understand it from a very technical point of view, but I'm not a huge fan of it. I wanted to give you options. I wanted to give you a little bit of a better understanding of all these other types so that maybe you can choose for yourself kind of what you were thinking, what you were feeling about all these different ones. And give you just a better idea and understanding, at least a little bit of one a very general idea and understanding of these other forms to ultimately give you options. So we are going to take a quick break and then I will be back and yeah, what is up you guys? I wanted to talk to you a.

Speaker 4 00:22:57

For sponsoring this episode. And we're back. And this is going to be kind of a shorter episode because I really just wanted to introduce the series, kind of give you guys a very general idea on kind of what we're going to be talking about, why we're going to be talking about it, those kinds of things. And what we're talking about is the series that I'm doing on the systems of government or various other forms of systems of government. So, yeah, like I said, this is going to be a much shorter episode. It is a mini episode because I just wanted to give you guys a very general, basic idea of kind of the things that we were going to be doing and discussing over the next couple of weeks. I really hope you guys like it. I really enjoyed doing this episode or these episodes and I really enjoyed talking to all of these different people and learning about like their views and their understanding and their way of thinking and that kind of thing. And it just is really fascinating and really interesting and I had a really good time doing it and I worked kind of hard on it, so I hope that it pays off and that you guys enjoy it. Yeah, so I think we're going to just go ahead and end it there.
