"Stephen A. Smith: Why So Serious?"

Just when we thought a good hearted joke could be serious? That's
what occurred with "First Take" commentator Stephen A. Smith upon
last week. What could've been a good laugh or two turned personal as
Smith went nuclear on the New Orleans Pelicans social media team. In
a short video package, the Pelicans complied Smith's blunders and
VoiceOver for his bad take on superstar Zion Williamson. What the
audience heard continued to be a nothing more than boastful dialogue.
A video package with intent of getting some laughs took Smith beyond
visible frustration. Once the short concluded, he saw nothing funny
seeing himself in mishaps. But wait... It gets better... Smith reminded
everyone of his accolades in sports media. Ranging from covering NBA
teams, having all the credentials nobody in New Orleans had. Taking
shots at college interns who know about Smith's blunders. It was an
opportunity to remind him he's not the athlete many are.
A grown man who continues to find the smallest ounce of nuclear
energy and take personal jabs at an organization. This happens when
the loudest mouth and voice of ESPN got thin skinned over a blooper
video. Many times as he's trolled Dallas Cowboys fans for over thirty
years, when the shoe is on his foot, man he gets defensive. Fans
around sports sat and watched Smith literally go off the rocker with
boastful insults.
Ratings and traction mean more to him than anything and what the
Pelicans social media team did got under his skin. More less trying to
make him look bad for his national audience. This has become
insufferable for sports fans and losing interest with Smith's antics. He
still hasn't recovered from uttering "I'll lay hands on LeBron James"
which was roughly a year ago.
Viewers have grown tired of Smith being somebody he's not. When was
the last time you actually watched "First Take" on ESPN? Name me an
episode where it was strictly about sports and not Smith singing the
same old hits? Are we even on the same page far as sports or what
have fans missed? Smith has shown his true character; while using his
podcast to be the voice of "Black American Politics," which is more of a
cringe session.
Ranging from world issues and his thoughts around politics; even flirting
with the idea of a presidential run in 2028. A man who demonized black
women and their political stances... Black man being hypocritical of
black women and he's a black man vying for a potential bid. When the
black community hears hatred on prominent black women in politics
who aren't afraid, it burns his thin skin. You can check the clips and
commentary on his "Straight Shooter" platform.
Smith and sports are dwindling into the final horizons as we've
witnessed two crash outs on live television. If he's not spewing
misinformation about superstar players, uttering past accolades is a
defense shield. His career was admired from afar by many young black
men and women who desired to follow his footsteps. Within the last two
years, his true character and colors revealed who he really is.
Being the useful black voice for one side of the political spectrum to
boost his social media status. It's the classic tale of narcissism of a man
who feels entitled based on feelings over facts. It will be a point where
athletes won't speak to him; except for those who overlook his antics
and become bootlickers in avoiding harsh chastisement. You can have
all the accolades, millions in your bank account and still throw shade at
those who helped along this journey.
When big money is involved, power comes with great responsibility.
Smith moves like he knows it all and selects who'll fit his mold of antics
for "First Take." He's become more obsessed with being heard over
staying chilled. Take it with a grain of salt and to the stage; while
performing hits nobody cares about.
