"Power Up: NFL Rankings Week Three"
The NFL power rankings are in full swing as we've played three games
and teams are making their cases for top spot. How's the top ten teams
panning out so far?
1. Philadelphia Eagles: 3-0
The defending Super Bowl champions rallied back from nineteen points
to win off a blocked field goal attempt by the Los Angeles Rams Sunday
afternoon. Not the prettiest game for aesthetics, the Eagles managed to
stay the course and remain undefeated.
2. Buffalo Bills: 3-0
Quarterback Josh Allen has stating his case for Buffalo's success
through three games. With the Bills playing really good football, this
team is primed to handle any challenge ahead of them. A good ten days
off after playing division rival Miami on Thursday night, it's clear they're
a complete team from top to bottom.
3. San Francisco 49ers: 3-0
A team ravaged with injuries, the Niners have been battle tested early
though three weeks. You can say it's the mastermind of head coach
Kyle Shanahan who can make any quarterback work in his scheme.
Mac Jones looked fairly good in a gutsy divisional game versus Arizona
Sunday afternoon. Even with Purdy and Kittle out, San Francisco can
weather the storm and stay afloat regardless.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3-0
A very mature Baker Mayfield has been the factor in Tampa's start to
2025. Three game winning drives each week, Mayfield is clearly a top
ten quarterback in the NFL. With a potent offense and stout defense,
the Bucs can compete with any team across the league. Wide receiver
Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury, and could be day to day. Be on
the lookout for this team's rise far as power rankings go.
5. Los Angeles Chargers: 3-0
Quarterback Justin Herbert has arrived on schedule in Los Angeles.
Playing three divisional teams, going undefeated; while having a strong
defense to keep it close. Head coach Jim Harbaugh's run the ball
mantra is both lethal and potent for opposing defenses. With Herbert's
play, the Chargers can easily bolt their way into the top spot here for
long. Running back Najee Harris' achilles injury was horrible but with the
players in Omarion Hampton, JK Dobbins, and Blake Corum, they won't
miss a beat.
6. Detroit Lions: 2-1
A big bite of kneecaps was given to Baltimore on Monday Night
Football; as the Lions remain a very potent team. Head coach Dan
Campbell is among the top head coaches and doesn't care if his brand
of football runs people away. Even with losing two coordinators to head
coaching jobs, this team hasn't missed a beat. Arguably the third best
roster in football led by quarterback Jared Goff. With a very strong run
game, high flying pass game and a defense who can get home, Detroit
is the "party crashers" in this very wide open NFC. If you don't like
Campbell's aggressive play calling to win, you must not like football!
7. Minnesota Vikings: 2-1
A team that's built off the run game, Minnesota can easily be
undefeated. With the injury to quarterback JJ McCarthy, insert
journeyman Carson Wentz. Given the running back duo of Aaron Jones
Sr and Jordan Mason, it's an appetite for success. Defensively, Brian
Flores has this unit ready to go each week. With a masterful
performance by Isaiah Rodgers, the Vikings defense goes until the final
whistle. Don't be surprised if they reach the top five in a couple weeks.
8. Los Angeles Rams: 2-1
A missed opportunity in Philadelphia this past Sunday; as the Rams had
a nineteen point lead before watching it evaporate in the second half.
Head coach Sean McVay's conservative play calling was questionable;
considering the cushion built before halftime. Special teams was just
part of the issue with LA. In a very tight NFC West and wide open NFC,
zero margin of error can be detrimental. Can quarterback Matthew
Stafford be healthy enough to play each week? Will this defense have
the juice to finish where their offensive flaws may be?
9. Indianapolis Colts: 3-0
The renaissance of quarterback Daniel Jones has ignited Indianapolis
as they're sitting atop of the AFC South. Jones' play has been pretty
good and finding their offensive identity. Running the football and airing
it out to the skilled players. Head coach Shane Steichen has built
confidence in this team which its lacked the last couple seasons under
Anthony Richardson. With a lot of questions surrounding Steichen's
status, he may have saved it for now. A defense which can bend but
don't break is serviceable enough to stay in games. Their biggest test
will be a west coast trip to play in SoFi Stadium against the LA Rams.
10. Pittsburgh Steelers: 2-1
Not the prettiest set of wins to start 2025 under head coach Mike
Tomlin. Pittsburgh makes their debut coming in at number ten for a few
reasons. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers can give you a game or two by
turning back the hands of time and throw guys under the bus during a
game. A defense which is still solid but not the same in recent memory.
Veteran stalwarts in Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, Darius Slay and Jalen
Ramsey have done enough to keep this team from giving up a lot of
points. Biggest test for Pittsburgh: can they rely on Rodgers' play to be
serviceable when it's time to deliver? We know how this goes with
Rodgers as he can thrown subliminal strays as coaches and players.
With a brutal AFC North they can compete in, Tomlin will need to press
the right buttons to keep his "streak of winning seasons" alive and push
for the playoffs.
