"Philadelphia Eagles: No Brotherly Love For Anyone"
In the world of sports, great teams have their ups, downs and
disagreements. Winning cures everything and all is well... What if a
team loses its identity? Defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia
Eagles went from offensive juggernaut to below average football team in
a span of thirteen weeks. Having back to back losses in Dallas and
home against Chicago.
The highest salaried offense in football under Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown,
Devonta Smith and Saquon Barkley haven't looked potent. A team
whose identity was running the football in 2024 with a great offensive
line appears to be lost. Injuries to their line has hampered any big plays
from Barkley. While Hurts has his moments of great reads, most have
been bad based on Brown's subliminal shots all season long.
Philly's biggest issue as I've said it for weeks: offensive play calling from
coordinator Kevin Patullo. In his first season as play caller, this Eagles
offense has been very predictable, vanilla ice cream and defenses feast
off it. Hurts' play has been under fire from teammates within the locker
room. Not being able to read a zone defense and throwing the ball
downfield. Dinking and dunking without playing to lose games has
frustrated Brown for weeks. The quiet part being said louder than a
parent yelling at their children. Force feeding Brown has kept him happy
with stats, but losses are looking even worse.
An Eagles defense who can keep it close, bail out and give their
counterparts every chance but can't get out their own way. After Friday's
embarrassing home loss to Chicago as fans booed their ways to the
exits, head coach Nick Sirianni would "evaluate" everything during this
ten day layoff.
Backing his offensive coordinator in Patullo, it's not setting well with fans
as the Eagles collapse is in full swing. Two losses and seeing how their
division rival Dallas Cowboys are chasing them down for the NFC East,
there's no room for errors. A fanbase who eats, sleeps and breathes
Eagles football will not be afraid to call out their head coach and staff as
a whole.
The old saying goes you can lose games, but not your locker room.
Once that happens, players will mute the coach and beyond. With a slim
lead and the season feeling like one more slip is bound to happen,
Philadelphia's road game in Los Angeles to play the Chargers will be a
must win. To have any hope in keeping their season alive, a late
December game versus Buffalo could end their playoff berth; depending
what is at stake for other NFC teams.
Winning comes with higher expectations and pressure will break
everyone's will one way or another. For Philadelphia, the time is now to
keep pressing without running players out of town. IF they fail to make it
to January football, I wouldn't be surprised if general manager Howie
Roseman trades away AJ Brown, fire Nick Sirianni, Kevin Patullo and
whoever else. Could quarterback Jalen Hurts be gone as well and
rebuild this team? Running back Saquon Barkley isn't safe either; as his
contract could become a cap casualty and recoup money to sign more
depth.
In a perfect world, the unknown matters and in this case, Philadelphia's
window to keep going is looking very grim beyond darkness.
