"NFL vs NBA: Who Stole the Ratings on Christmas Day?"

"NFL vs NBA: Who Stole the Ratings on Christmas Day?"

Oh, the irony of having two of America's favorite sports on Christmas
Day. We were given fantastic games, well... If you're a Pittsburgh
Steelers fan, then it wasn't so fantastic. You could've been a Houston
Texans fan and the only gift was Beyonce's halftime performance. Allow
me to be the voice of khaos and tell you why which sport won the
ratings on Christmas Day.

First off, we all know NFL is king of sports television as its been for
many years. Continuing to give fans plenty of gifts and cheers; allowing
us to consume two wonderfully wrapped games. The dynasty in Kansas
City, you know everyone will watch to see this team attempt history in
winning a three peat. Pittsburgh, a historic franchise in itself.

For the game, we know Kansas City won 29-10 and it didn't feel
remotely close. Streamed on Netflix, viewership was about as good fans
wanted. Yes, the dynasty is raking in numbers, but it's perfect
marketing. As for Baltimore at Houston, all Ravens as Lamar Jackson
put on another MVP performance. The Texans failing to score a
touchdown is an understatement. Beyonce won the show, but Baltimore
stole the game.

On to the NBA, the product was better for the first time in a few years.
The usual teams New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Golden State and Los
Angeles are your big market teams. Credit, Disney gave us "Dunk The
Halls" with San Antonio and New York; similar to how the NFL
incorporated The Simpsons into Monday Night Football.

The one game everyone watched: Los Angeles traveling to Golden
State. LeBron versus Steph was the storyline as both legends gave fans
great performances. Even in the final minutes, James had a big block;
Curry made two big threes and Lakers guard Austin Reaves drove it
home for the game winning layup to a 115-113 victory for Los Angeles.
The last game of our NBA Christmas Day, Denver at Phoenix was
decent but how many people stayed up late to watch?

In the grand scheme of things, football has taken over basketball far as
ratings. Christmas Day is usually reserved for NBA but the last couple
years, NFL has cashed in on marketing the best teams and dynasties.
So many more storylines and viewership across the board. At one point,
NBA dominated Christmas Day; but it's slowly teetering into NFL's
second biggest holiday outside of Thanksgiving Day. More football fans
will tune in and watch; even if its Netflix or Amazon Prime, the NBA can't
compete by any means.
By a general populous answer, NFL had the ratings over NBA
Christmas. It's not shade being thrown at NBA Commissioner Adam

Silver, but his counterpart Roger Goddell is using the right resources in
scheduling these marquee games to overtake NBA Christmas Day. With
Christmas falling on a Thursday in 2025, best believe Netflix and
Amazon will outperform the NBA. Even if the afternoon games are
broadcasted on CBS and Fox, it's going to be more watchable with
people having access.

Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas holiday! From all of us at
The Gryd, Happy New Year and a very successful 2025!

Stai tuned.
