"NFL Power Rankings: Thrivin' In Week Five"
We're a quarter done of the 2025 NFL season and I'm back to give you
my top ten teams heading into week five. New teams will make their
debut; while the previous ones... Well, they had a bad day and need to
evaluate their performances. Let's get to the rankings shall we!
1. Philadelphia Eagles: 4-0
Still atop of the rankings through four weeks, Philadelphia hasn't hit their
potency at the moment. With a win over Tampa Bay, the Eagles internal
conflicts with star wide receiver AJ Brown may be a cause for concern.
Even with winning games, Brown's discontent has sounded the alarm,
but overall team goal of victories is what matters. I still don't believe in
their secondary by any means, but with Jalen Hurts leading the way, a
win is a win right?
2. Buffalo Bills: 4-0
Avoiding an upset on Sunday versus New Orleans, the Bills stay right
here in second place. Reigning MVP Josh Allen showed some miscues
but it's not shocking. Running back James Cook is among the best
running backs in football and will likely be a recipient for Offensive
Player of The Year. Defensively, solid but needs to build a stronger
foundation prior to their gauntlet of games coming up.
3. Detroit Lions: 3-1
After an impressive win over Baltimore last week, a little bit of struggles
quieted the Lions versus Cleveland. Even with Jared Goff throwing an
arm's length interception, a defense which will maul opposing
quarterbacks helps. There's still plenty to like about Detroit and head
coach Dan Campbell gives you a reason to enjoy the organized chaos
of scoring a lot of points and taking calculated risks on fourth down.
4. Los Angeles Rams: 3-1
A get right game after missing an opportunity to defeat Philadelphia last
week. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to play elite
football and be a consummate professional. Devante Adams, Puka
Nacua have become the second best wide receiver duo in football and
just getting started. In a very interesting NFC West, they can easily be
one of the teams atop of this division. With a strong defense and head
coach Sean McVay, the Rams will be primed to battle for a top spot win
my power rankings.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3-1
No comeback from Baker Mayfield on Sunday as Tampa Bay sinks in
my rankings. A slow start and firing cannons to get back; only for a 31-
23 loss in which looked lopsided. With receiver Mike Evans out, this
receiving core has to step up. Give me more on defense and Mayfield a
chance to start fast. Tampa's woes of the inability to move the ball early
against Philadelphia came with consequences. Not being able to stop
the improved "tush shuttle pass" which led to two touchdowns. Playing
from behind is detrimental and adds more stress on Mayfield's late
magic.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: 3-1
Flying to the east coast for a 1PM eastern kickoff is bad for any team. A
slow start against the New York Giants led to costly interceptions by
Justin Herbert. The defense stayed in front but couldn't overcome
Herbert's bad play in which Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart
made it look simple in breaking down their exotic fourth ranked defense.
With the Kansas City Chiefs gaining traction, Los Angeles' best hopes
are to keep as much distance away from their division rival.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers: 3-1
The biggest leap in my week five power rankings as they left Dublin,
Ireland with a 24-21 victory over Minnesota. In a game where head
coach Mike Tomlin could've cost Pittsburgh a win, his old school
playcylling on fourth and one gave Minnesota new life. With the defense
playing well, you should've won by more than three points. Aaron
Rodgers can give you a game or two, but when it starts to look fragile,
subliminal dialogue is keyed in for viewers. Can they overcome Tomlin's
lack of awareness and keep afloat in the AFC?
8. Kansas City Chiefs: 2-2
After starting 0-2, the Chiefs found their stride versus Baltimore on
Sunday afternoon. Patrick Mahomes looked comfortable throwing the
football and getting guys involved early. It's what fans are used to
seeing from Kansas City and a blowout win over Baltimore gave them
their 2025 power rankings debut. Defensively, it's still among the best
and will only gain traction as we enter October and November.
Nevertheless, the Chiefs championship pedigree and standard will
impose its will.
9. Seattle Seahawks: 3-1
Making their 2025 debut on my power rankings, Seattle has found their
franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold. They could have a 4-0 record
and atop of the NFC West division. With the emergence of JSN at
wideout, this offense will be among the top seven in scoring. Running
back Kenneth Walker is a thumper who can wear defenses down.
Defensively, they can play with speed and physical force versus your
offensive lines. Secondary and linebackers are solid; while improving
every week. Seattle will make things very interesting in a crowded NFC
West.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars: 3-1
Flying to the west coast and playing an undefeated San Francisco 49ers
squad with Brock Purdy returning, the Jags upset and dominated from
start to finish. Rather it was running the ball or airing it out, Jacksonville
had their best game of 2025. Trevor Lawrence played well enough;
while the defense made life miserable for Brock Purdy. These type of
games build confidence knowing you can compete against elite teams
such as San Francisco. Can they build off this big win and make the
rankings for week six?
