"NBA Finals Preview: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Indiana Pacers"
We've reached one more hurdle to go in your 2025 NBA postseason; as
the final two teams left standing will pace and race each other to win
their first NBA Championship in franchise history. It's not the most
appealing matchup we've had in the coarse of Finals history, but two
different styles will make for a very interesting "x" amount of games.
Top seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, your Western Conference
Champions will host four seed Indiana Pacers from the Eastern
Conference. A battle of young teams who've been the best teams since
January 1st 2025. Both have had realistic admirations to be playing in
June and here we are. Let's preview the matchup...
Oklahoma City Thunder rumbled through the playoffs like nothing
happened. Shredding the Memphis Grizzles, Denver Nuggets, and
Minnesota Timberwolves. Led by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC
is very old school in how they play. A very 1990s style with gritty
defenses and sensational role players. Very athletic and physical is their
identity; frustrating every possession and won't make too many
mistakes.
Oklahoma City's quest started early on, as they ripped through the
Western Conference; while under the radar. Belittling bigger teams with
their youth and athletic bench. A combination of allowing SGA to attack
the mid-range game and create opportunities for his teammates. It will
be a tall task in avoiding adjusting to Indiana's pace forty-eight minutes
without showing signs of fatigue.
Indiana... It's been twenty-five years since the Pacers made it to June
and not taking anything for granted. Despite being under the radar, a
fifty win team still stayed afloat and kept pacing around in the Eastern
Conference. All the talk about Cleveland, Boston and New York; Indiana
kept racing around and now find themselves in the Finals.
For starters, the Pacers have knocked out Milwaukee, Cleveland and
New York to park in their next race. With superstar point guard Tyrese
Haliburton, whose fuel has been "most overrated player" by a select
few. Taking the souls of New York, while opening wounds of Knicks fans
misery. This Pacers team has been fun and the challenges on deck will
test them.
With a veteran head coach in Rick Carlisle, he will need to press all the
buttons and gears against Oklahoma City. A former player who's been
around greatness. As a former player on the 1986 Boston Celtics and
head coach of Dallas' 2011 run with hall of famer Dirk Nowitzki. Indiana
is a resilient team who can play ten guys and score roughly 10-15 points
at any given moment.
As the saying goes in boxing: "Styles make fights," this will be a series
of who'll deliver the first blow and not let up. Best offense with Indiana
versus best defense in Oklahoma City. Offense wins games; while
defense captures championships. In today's modern NBA, having a
balance of both can take you to the finish. If the games are close and
your best players have a chance, buckle up and embrace a very tight
checkered flag finish.
Great guard play, depth on both sides of the court, coaching to me will
be the biggest "x-factor." How will each coach adjust to the adjustments
when it matters. For OKC, they'll be the heavy favorites in this series;
whereas Indiana will have to split in extending this series passed five
games. The most unlikely, small market teams made it to June. One will
hoist their first Larry O'Brien Trophy and the runner-up will have an off-
season to retool.
