"Monday Night Football: Biting Plenty Of Kneecaps"

"Monday Night Football: Biting Plenty Of Kneecaps"

To cap off an amazing, yet crazy week three of NFL football; ESPN
gifted us a team everyone has fell in love with. If you haven't heard of
them, meet the Detroit Lions. Built off the grit and "biting of kneecaps"
via head coach Dan Campbell. It was the perfect storm for Detroit to
make a statement on a nationally televised game in Baltimore.

Detroit defeated one of the AFC favorites in Baltimore 38-30; raising
their record to 2-1. A score at one point felt like a blowout win before
Baltimore made it respectable. This isn't about what Baltimore didn't
accomplish; its about how Detroit won this game up front with a
powerful offensive line and dynamic run game featuring Jhamyr Gibbs,
known as "Sonic" and David Montgomery aka "Knuckles."

We know this Lions offense is potent by all means. Wide receivers
Jameson Williams can beat you over the top; while Amon-Ra St. Brown
can hurt you as well. None of this would be possible without a steady
quarterback in Jared Goff. Playing against one of the best defenses in
football, Detroit had their way every possession. First down after first
down with a little bit of trickery. It was backyard football and Baltimore
couldn't stop none of the above.

Detroit's brand of football is well known: fourth down and short and
going for it to win at any costs. Campbell doesn't care about analytics;
he's an old school coach and will take the results. Defenses should
prepare but against Detroit, you'll be left in the dust. No matter how you
decipher this teams tangibles, a costly mistake can lead to a big play
downfield.

The most impressive stat was Detroit's defensive line sacking Jackson
seven times. When was the last time this occurred in Jackson's career?
We credit the offense for potency, but this defense is by far top seven in
my humble opinion. Give or take on any given day or night game. As a
football fan, I'm giving their flowers for attacking this Ravens offense.

To the Ravens side of this horrible loss: turnovers hurt more ways than
one. Fumbles by Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry proved too much in
climbing out the gutter to rally back. What's more detrimental is
Baltimore's run defense wasn't capable of slowing down Gibbs and
Montgomery. Exposed in the pass defense gave the Ravens night
terrors for sixty-minutes. For a team that's pretty well coached,
Baltimore had ZERO answers for Detroit on this late summer night in
September.

If Detroit can keep this up without any hiccups, it's a strong possibility
they may be the team to disrupt any other playoff chances come
December. What I do know is this team isn't the same Lions of old;
they'll run through a brick wall for head coach Dan Campbell. Laugh all
you want, remember they'll roar first then bite kneecaps like a lion in the
jungle.
