"Michael Vick: A New Challenge & Experience"
One of the best NFL quarterbacks far as scrambling and having a
cannon left arm, Michael Vick was that player in the 2000s. It was must
see television. As the news broke he interviewed for two head coaching
jobs in Sacramento and Norfolk State, one of the destinations made
ideal sense.
For Vick, he was named head coach of the Norfolk State Spartans
football team. Taking over for a program which finished 4-8 in 2024. It'll
be a challenge for Vick as he prepares to assemble his staff. A
homecoming for him as he grew up in Newport News, Virginia and a
star player at Virginia Tech. It was ideal for Vick back to his home state;
being a black quarterback and knowing the community made sense.
For Vick, this is more than an a head coaching move; it's a new
challenge in being successful as black head coach in college football.
You can say it's the "Coach Prime" effect as he consulted Prime before
agreeing to a new deal. His cache in mentoring young black athletes is
a plus. Using his story of redemption in telling inner city youth to avoid
the traps of illegal activities. If there's any former player to lead a program and change the trajectory of today's young black men, it's Michael Vick. With Coach Prime shifting the narrative and social media plus NIL and transfer portal, the journey will be exciting filled with challenges. Building a winning culture and
convincing players to join something special.
A roster with returning players and a hopeful of transfers, the future is
bright for Norfolk State. Hiring Vick is building a foundation and hit the
ground running for an exciting offseason. Surrounding himself with a
great staff and experienced coaches will help simplify the transition. Being a former quarterback and understanding play calling will help this
offense.
With him being a Nike athlete, the school is sponsored by the swoosh
as well. Helps with recruiting and keeping elite players in Virginia. He
will have to win the trails and understand today's college athletes.
Building strong young black men in preparing them for the NFL. It won't
be easy in his first season, but taking baby steps to becoming dominant.
If Vick needs any advice in navigating, look to Coach Prime and draw
inspiration to win over the fans, alumni and create an everlasting
experience. This looks to be the trend former NFL athletes are taking to
build their portfolios. Which can lead to bigger opportunities further
down the road. In the end, Michael Vick will lead a group of young men
who'll become future NFL players and beyond.
Stai tuned.
