"Micah Parsons Versus The Media"
Just when you thought sports media and athletes couldn't be anymore
attached... Well, if you've been living under a rock and overlooking
sports content, Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons sure
knows how to stay in the spotlight. And man, did it bring up media beef
with two of sports biggest personalities. Allow me to break it down layer
by layer.
Parsons' appearance during the Pro Bowl festivities became a topic of
interest. Riding around on a scooter filming his peers partake in
practices and media availability. It reached a point where Parsons
became somewhat jealous of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur
Sanders taking most of the spotlight. Even trying to talk down on the
2025 Defensive Player Of The Year Myles Garrett and chatting with
former Cowboys teammate CeeDee Lamb.
Recruiting and trying to tamper with Cowboys wide receiver George
Pickens. Parsons couldn't help but to get his voice back out and an
avenue to do around Pro Bowl and Super Bowl week. None of this was
talked about... It was the comments he made which circulated on Funny
Marco's podcast. To which Parsons was asked about the national sports
media coverage. NFL Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe was
uttered in how he plays both sides of the fence.
Giving players their props when a win or loss occurs and so forth. It was
what he said about legendary sports personality and former columnist
Skip Bayless which sent social media into a tailspin. Now, if you're not
familiar with Bayless' background, he's a man whose career spans well
over forty years. Pretty much can direct his own biopic and cast it to his
liking. Back to the subject at hand, Parsons had a few choice words for
Bayless and Sharpe; pretty much calling them out for their biased takes.
When a player appears on a podcast and asked these questions,
there's no boundaries. Parsons went nuclear on the aforementioned
gentlemen and didn't hold back. There was no mentions of winning a
Super Bowl; but looking at his post career in culinary arts. This set off
Bayless in part of Parsons' disappearing act with Dallas. No love lost
between the two, but Bayless responded in typical fashion.
Parsons pretty much said he's not selling out for a check and rage bait
players. It's not his forte and demeanor to chastise guys who are
playing to win meaningful games. He wants to be himself and no
amount of money could change that. However, Bayless being the man
he is came back with a harsh response to Parsons' comments. I won't
paraphrase what he said, but please checkout the clip.
Bayless' point of view has been Parsons lack of production in big playoff
games. Going back to his second season in Dallas and departure in a
messy contract talk last offseason. There was a lot of subliminal
messages which Bayless could read between the lines. 2025 season
was no different than the production Parsons produced in his previous
seasons with Dallas. Even with the big trade before week one, Bayless
was first to cheer Parsons departure. As he stated throughout the
regular season, Green Bay overpaid and will be stuck with a player who
won't live up to his big contract.
When a man who watched greatness and covered dynasties, Bayless
has every right to call it like he sees it. Even Hall of Fame tight end
Shannon Sharpe has all the credibility and knowledge to break it down
from an athlete's perspective. Today's athletes don't like to be singled
out but when you mention legends and their "sellout for checks," you're
going to face the current which will bring heavy turbulence. Sharpe
played in the NFL, analyst, commentator and became a beloved "Unc"
we've grown to know.
Bayless is the reason we have sports debate; which he's the
"Godfather" of this creative space. There's no need to get in your
feelings; just be the bigger person and move on. If you choose to act
immature and take others with you, don't be surprised if those
individuals remind their fanbases of accomplishments. Parsons was
likely in the moment of being honest and immature about the state of
sports media coverage. Time will tell if Bayless and Parsons will meet
face to face and settle their differences. It would be must see television
because ratings would be through the roof. For now, all parties have
spoken their peace and we shall see further down the road.
