"Dallas Cowboys: A Losing Culture Exposed."
Oh, what a wonderful time of year being in this content space. Plenty of
news to breakdown and comb through as each story reaches my desk.
If you've read my articles, being "the voice of khaos" is my brand. Right
on schedule, my beloved Dallas Cowboys make headlines for NOT
winning Super Bowls.
If it's not contracts, holdouts, foolish dialogue Owner/GM Jerry Jones
spews in the media, current and former players bickering on social
media. Oh yes, you'd thought I wasn't going to write about my team?
Yup, let's settle the khaos shall we.
Former Cowboy and newly signed Seahawk defensive end DeMarcus
Lawrence spent eleven solid seasons; earning multiple Pro Bowls and
two contracts wearing the metallic blue and silver. Good with the locker
room, one of the faces of our defense. But, there was always going to
be suitors in wanting his services.
During his short media availability with his new team, Lawrence
expressed his excitement in joining Seattle and wanting to win. But... He
said "wasn't going to win a Super Bowl in Dallas." *Cue the sighs
please.* It didn't take long for current Cowboy Micah Parsons to show
his displeasure with Lawrence's comments. Followed by a reply to
Parsons' tweet; you can take it for what it's worth. What Lawrence said
was the brutal honest truth; calling out Parsons' social media status
versus preparing each week as everyone else to win. Oh... Now it's an
issue or has it since the landscape of social media has dominated
sports?
It's the country club culture Jerry Jones has instilled within this team.
Nobody's held accountable, players don't take football seriously. Bad
habits lead to horrible in-game mistakes because of nobody getting
kicked in the rear. Coaches walk on eggshells and kiss Jones' rear to
keep their jobs. Players echo sentiments to look the part.
If I may, the great Jimmy Johnson instilled a culture of excellence. How
you practiced, you dominate the same way. No shortcuts to winning and
it came with a lot of yelling and screaming. Players feared Johnson as
they should've. This version of the Cowboys, excuses for this/that and
no accountability. High priced players who've yet to deliver; some of it's
self inflicted, while the rest is Jones' media hype train.
Nothing will ever change until Jerald Wayne Jones Jr is out the building.
The man who's built a multi-billion dollar sports franchise only cares
about ratings and Thanksgiving Day. Even when he gives his opening
training camp speech, it's the same "This is one of the better teams I've
built since 1995." No, it's not Jerry! You're stuck in the 90s and yet to
evolve!
While other teams maximize their cap, we continue to use it as an
excuse to avoid improving our team. Unless it "our guys," you don't care
about bottom line in winning. This loser's mentality and culture is finally
being exposed for the right reasons. Fans have seen enough; which
they've voiced their opinions in 2024. I won't be surprised if hardly any
fans show up to watch unless it's Thanksgiving. Sadly, they have every
right to default the stadium and view from home.
These last few months have been more headlines but hey, it's the
Dallas Cowboys ya know! We can only hope and pray better days will
come in the near future. For now, the losing culture has been exposed
and more will soon to follow here for long. As my mother often says:
"Hide and watch; when it happens, you won't be surprised."
