WEBVTT

00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:11.115
As an entrepreneur, you're signing up to learn a lot of new things, learn a lot of new skills, try a lot of new things, take risks, and so failure is part of the journey.

00:00:11.115 --> 00:00:17.842
And if we don't have a mindset that can handle that, if we don't have a mindset that almost not expected, like I want to go out there and fail.

00:00:17.842 --> 00:00:24.990
But you know, this is a new thing that I'm trying out, so chances are I'm going to slip a number of times before I get it right, and that's okay.

00:00:24.990 --> 00:00:32.460
Like that mindset alone.

00:00:32.460 --> 00:00:35.107
Right is the difference between somebody who will quit and somebody who will keep going.

00:00:35.128 --> 00:00:47.405
Hi docs, welcome to the EntreMD podcast, where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms.

00:00:47.405 --> 00:00:49.252
I'm your host, dr Una.

00:00:49.252 --> 00:00:56.304
Well, hello everybody.

00:00:56.304 --> 00:00:58.229
Welcome back to the podcast.

00:00:58.229 --> 00:01:07.162
You are in for a treat of treats, because I have Dr Leslie Golden here and she's a doc that I've known for a few years.

00:01:07.162 --> 00:01:16.552
Knew her when she was a partner in a private practice and she's launched her own private practice and she's grown like crazy and her story is such a gift.

00:01:16.552 --> 00:01:18.201
I was actually telling her this before we started.

00:01:18.201 --> 00:01:24.043
Her story is such a gift to the physician community as a whole, but especially to doctors who are in private practice.

00:01:24.043 --> 00:01:27.450
So so excited we're here, dr Leslie Golden.

00:01:27.450 --> 00:01:28.472
Welcome to the show.

00:01:29.159 --> 00:01:30.123
Thank you, Dr Una.

00:01:30.123 --> 00:01:31.569
I'm so excited to be here.

00:01:32.941 --> 00:01:43.986
I'm glad you're here, okay, so I'm going to back up a little bit and I'm going to give you a moment to kind of introduce yourself, you know, briefly, let people know about your, you know your story and all of that.

00:01:45.269 --> 00:01:45.688
Of course.

00:01:45.688 --> 00:01:49.774
So, dr Leslie Golden, I am the CEO of Wayne Gold Wellness.

00:01:49.774 --> 00:01:57.450
So we're a private practice that helps people transform mind and body to find their health off the scale.

00:01:57.450 --> 00:02:05.971
So, but that's not where the journey started, right, even being able to say that was a process.

00:02:05.971 --> 00:02:38.643
So, you know, I was a family medicine resident, went into employee practice right away because I had this mindset of the only way to really be a good doctor is to separate myself from the financial and business end, right, and it didn't take me long at all to realize that I couldn't have the freedom, or I felt like I couldn't have the freedom, to practice the way I wanted to in that model.

00:02:38.643 --> 00:02:43.312
But then also, I didn't realize I had a choice, right.

00:02:43.312 --> 00:02:46.800
So I think nobody prepared us in training or residency.

00:02:46.800 --> 00:02:52.645
There weren't a lot of examples for me, especially like seeing females out there running their own private practices.

00:02:52.645 --> 00:03:02.125
So I, you know, I thought when I became attending an employed doc, like this is my life, why am I not happy?

00:03:02.125 --> 00:03:09.328
Why am I not thrilled in all these rules and regulations and people telling me how to practice and not to practice?

00:03:09.328 --> 00:03:40.724
And so right away, luckily, I found a group that were practicing private practice and family medicine and transitioned over to that and it was a great opportunity, learned a lot and as we grew and I found within engaging with my patients that how much I loved weight, health and obesity medicine and I was changing lives.

00:03:40.724 --> 00:03:44.031
I was practicing medicine the way I wanted to.

00:03:44.031 --> 00:03:46.354
Patients were having great outcomes.

00:03:46.354 --> 00:04:12.692
I found like happiness and a sense of purpose that I didn't know was possible and also, kind of within that private practice, having a little bit of ability to realize the choices that I did have to change and grow to make it work to where I could have longer appointments if I could learn the billing and learn the process and make it work.

00:04:12.692 --> 00:04:33.627
And then from there, just like so many other evolutions, it was like hold on, I can expand and grow this more, like in listening to my patients and figuring out what they want and how they need to be served and how I can help them and, again, having to get past that barrier of like I can create my perfect practice.

00:04:33.627 --> 00:04:38.822
I just have to take that leap and be willing to learn right and to take that journey.

00:04:39.603 --> 00:04:56.663
So a couple years ago, you know I I heard this podcast I don't know if you've ever heard of this, this Archer MD podcast, and talking about how how to do that, and I was so inspired and it was something I never believed.

00:04:56.663 --> 00:05:03.846
You know, I thought being a private practice physician in a big group was pretty darn brave already.

00:05:03.846 --> 00:05:07.142
Like there's no way I'm going to go and start my own thing.

00:05:07.142 --> 00:05:07.985
Are you kidding me?

00:05:07.985 --> 00:05:09.007
Nobody does that.

00:05:09.007 --> 00:05:19.110
And um, and just I realized, yeah, you make the choice, but it's not like that next day you have to be this person.

00:05:19.110 --> 00:05:23.747
It takes time and you just trust that you become that person over time.

00:05:23.747 --> 00:05:36.125
And that's hard as docs because we think we have to be perfect and luckily I found a community that guided me through that and did so much.

00:05:36.125 --> 00:05:48.694
Marketing, started asking, started telling people my beliefs and how I serve people and how I'm different, and launched my private practice April 2023.

00:05:48.694 --> 00:05:54.420
And we have been thriving ever since and I'm sure we'll get to those details, but that's been the journey.

00:05:56.324 --> 00:05:58.930
Like when you say I started my practice in 2023.

00:05:58.930 --> 00:06:06.192
And we've been thriving ever since, like I hope you, I hope you can hear that it's like who does that Right?

00:06:06.192 --> 00:06:08.084
Like just like you were saying, who does that?

00:06:08.084 --> 00:06:12.362
And it is so amazing and I know I always tell you that you know I'm so proud of you.

00:06:12.362 --> 00:06:14.367
We as a community, we're so proud of you.

00:06:14.367 --> 00:06:24.766
But it's so much fun to to watch your evolution and watch what you've created and watch how that's even expanded your mind to see what else is possible.

00:06:24.766 --> 00:06:32.790
So, right off the bat, let's just go into this, because we're in a time where private practices many of them are struggling.

00:06:32.790 --> 00:06:35.552
Some of them that look really good are still struggling.

00:06:35.552 --> 00:06:41.577
There's a decrease in reimbursements, there's a great resignation, there's the recession, there's all kinds of things going on.

00:06:41.577 --> 00:06:53.670
But, knowing what you know, what would you say are the top three things that have made it possible for you to thrive, even in the times that we find ourselves in?

00:06:54.079 --> 00:07:06.083
Hmm, you know uh, mindset, community, uh, and the vision and the vision.

00:07:06.103 --> 00:07:07.944
Okay, let's unpack that a little bit.

00:07:07.944 --> 00:07:09.786
I love that.

00:07:09.786 --> 00:07:10.447
It's mindset.

00:07:10.447 --> 00:07:11.548
First I'll tell you why.

00:07:11.548 --> 00:07:17.314
You know, I was one of those people like you guys just got to do the work, like what is this mindset thing Right?

00:07:17.314 --> 00:07:19.576
And I learned really quick like mindset is everything.

00:07:19.576 --> 00:07:24.526
And even sometimes on the podcast, people are like I don't need all that mindset stuff, I just want the strategy.

00:07:24.526 --> 00:07:29.600
I'm like, listen, okay, you having the strategy without the mindset is like having a Ferrari with flat tires.

00:07:29.600 --> 00:07:31.966
Like at the end of the day, you're not going anywhere.

00:07:31.966 --> 00:07:34.360
Okay, it's not, it's just not going to happen.

00:07:34.360 --> 00:07:37.269
So you said mindset, you said community and you said division.

00:07:37.269 --> 00:07:43.704
So so talk to us a little bit about that, cause someone's going like is not like hire a better biller, it's not an office manager.

00:07:43.704 --> 00:07:46.026
Like why did you pick those three things?

00:07:46.507 --> 00:07:48.788
Right, I mean mindset.

00:07:48.788 --> 00:07:55.574
You know it's one of those things like it involves so much internal work and you have to.

00:07:55.574 --> 00:08:04.680
It's complete accountability, right.

00:08:04.680 --> 00:08:05.045
So we don't want that.

00:08:05.045 --> 00:08:19.053
But I've learned throughout the whole journey it's everything right, so I can have the best strategy in the world and somebody can give me the best advice in the world, but in order to put it into practice I have to be willing to fail at first.

00:08:19.053 --> 00:08:25.692
If it doesn't work Like, I have to be willing to see it through and I have to be that constant learner.

00:08:25.692 --> 00:08:35.748
In that you know it's kind of like so many of the patients I work with, you know they're similar kind of concept, right, we all kind of understand weight health a little in terms of that of like.

00:08:35.748 --> 00:08:48.902
So many patients come in, they're like all right, dr Golden, tell me the calories, tell me the carbs, tell me the workout I got to do, just give it to me straight and I'm like yeah so why do?

00:08:48.922 --> 00:08:51.226
you want to lose weight, like what.

00:08:51.226 --> 00:08:55.302
What's your why, what is, what is the vision of you a year from now?

00:08:55.302 --> 00:08:56.826
Being successful, look like?

00:08:56.826 --> 00:08:58.610
And what's going to keep you there?

00:08:58.610 --> 00:09:01.384
And they're like what, why are we talking about this?

00:09:01.384 --> 00:09:04.991
Because that that makes all the difference in the world.

00:09:04.991 --> 00:09:27.063
Because, no matter what the steps are in the details, we have to know what we're doing it for and give ourselves the grace for the days that we're not going to want to do it and know that there's a mountain that is in front of us and we may be in a valley, but, wow, that top of the mountain is right around the corner.

00:09:27.063 --> 00:09:36.946
And you know, you've been along with me for so much of this journey and there's definitely been times where that, that valley and that mountaintop have been five minutes apart, multiple times a day.

00:09:36.946 --> 00:09:44.308
Right, and it's the mindset that gets you from that point Cause otherwise, yeah, you definitely go home and be like yeah, no.

00:09:44.308 --> 00:09:44.931
Gets you from that point.

00:09:44.931 --> 00:09:52.662
Cause otherwise, yeah, you definitely go home and be like yeah, no this is too hard.

00:09:52.682 --> 00:09:53.626
So, yeah, you, you unearth a lot of things, right?

00:09:53.626 --> 00:09:54.772
Because you talked about being willing to fail.

00:09:54.772 --> 00:09:55.254
Okay, we're physicians.

00:09:55.254 --> 00:09:57.542
Okay, that's not one of the things where you know what I'm saying.

00:09:57.542 --> 00:10:10.008
And, as an entrepreneur, you're, you're signing up to learn a lot of new things, learn a lot of new skills, try a lot of new things, take risk, and so failure is part of the journey.

00:10:10.008 --> 00:10:16.707
And if we don't have a mindset that can handle that, if we don't have a mindset that almost not expected, like, I wanna go out there and fail.

00:10:16.707 --> 00:10:27.424
But you know, this is a new thing that I'm trying out, so chances are I'm gonna slip a number of times before I get it right, and are I'm going to slip a number of times before I get it right, and that's okay.

00:10:27.424 --> 00:10:36.716
Like, that mindset alone, right, is the difference between somebody who will quit and somebody who will keep going, right, and so I love that you're not painting a picture of there are no challenges.

00:10:36.716 --> 00:10:42.696
It's just that you've built the mindset that can go ahead in the face of challenges, right?

00:10:42.976 --> 00:10:52.429
And sometimes the win and the challenge are, like you said, five minutes apart, and so the question is are you going to act like somebody who you know, like I'm happy, I'm sad, I'm happy, I'm sad, I'm happy, I'm sad?

00:10:52.429 --> 00:10:59.745
Are you just going to decide this is the way?

00:10:59.826 --> 00:11:09.335
it goes and we're just going to pedal through and I may, like a year or two ago, I remember thinking like, oh, this will be great, I just don't want to manage people.

00:11:09.615 --> 00:11:10.956
I just don't want to lead people.

00:11:17.759 --> 00:11:19.202
Oh, I hope I never have to coach someone on correcting their behavior.

00:11:19.202 --> 00:11:21.868
Oh, I hope someone else will come along and manage all this other stuff and you learn along the way.

00:11:21.908 --> 00:11:27.424
you start to be like, okay, I don't know how to do this, but do I want to be the kind of person that does?

00:11:27.424 --> 00:11:31.283
And let's go ahead and get to the other side of that Cause that'll be cool.

00:11:31.283 --> 00:11:32.466
I'd like to be her.

00:11:32.466 --> 00:11:48.441
I'd like to be that cool person that's like, yeah, I do this all the time and the only way to get there is to do it get it over with and and and it's so.

00:11:48.461 --> 00:11:52.870
it brings forward a freedom that I think is unknown to so many of us in in medicine, because you bet you can't do anything wrong.

00:11:52.870 --> 00:11:54.780
You've got to know it all.

00:11:54.780 --> 00:12:07.190
You know in in the comparitis is is so significant and and we don't realize that those are the roadblocks when we're building something incredible like this, if we let them be roadblocks.

00:12:09.153 --> 00:12:12.748
Oh, man, okay, you're just going into all the things, but that's the thing.

00:12:12.748 --> 00:12:15.520
You're a practitioner, right, like you're doing the thing, so you know.

00:12:15.520 --> 00:12:22.053
So you talked about like I want to get there but I don't want to have to lead people.

00:12:22.053 --> 00:12:24.928
I want to get there but I don't want to have to do the people thing.

00:12:29.259 --> 00:12:30.830
So I'm guessing that that's not just an example, that that was you right?

00:12:30.830 --> 00:12:32.158
Oh yes, that's lived experience.

00:12:32.197 --> 00:12:34.644
Right, that's lived experience.

00:12:34.764 --> 00:12:49.690
And the reason why I want us to talk about this is because there are so many private practices that the number one issue is there is an owner who doesn't want to do certain things that are a requirement for a successful business.

00:12:50.341 --> 00:13:03.966
You will hire, you will build company culture, you will fire, you will coach your team, you will lead them, you will have meetings, you will cast vision, you hold them accountable, like these are all things where like, yeah, I don't want to do that.

00:13:03.966 --> 00:13:05.471
Okay, that was me too, right.

00:13:05.471 --> 00:13:13.629
And so I want you to talk to you from before, because now you're doing all those things and you know like we still work together.

00:13:13.629 --> 00:13:25.990
So I see the back end and you are doing a really great job of doing those things, whether that's having, like, whether that's critical hires or difficult conversations or holding somebody accountable and all of those kinds of things.

00:13:25.990 --> 00:13:29.725
So what would you tell the person who is still like I don't want to touch?

00:13:29.725 --> 00:13:37.941
And there are people who are running multimillion dollar private practices who are still like I'm not doing any of that, right, like it's not a newbie thing, it's a decision, right?

00:13:37.941 --> 00:13:39.844
So what would you tell that person?

00:13:40.464 --> 00:13:42.267
Oh, it's time to grow.

00:13:42.267 --> 00:13:42.767
I mean really.

00:13:42.767 --> 00:13:43.568
Oh, it's time to grow.

00:13:43.568 --> 00:13:44.529
I mean really it.

00:13:44.529 --> 00:13:46.172
It is time to grow.

00:13:46.172 --> 00:14:00.908
It is time to explore, like, what does the person that is the version of me that that knows how to do this, how would they do it?

00:14:00.908 --> 00:14:09.129
But let's work through that and it's not going to be great, but you will discover so much more about yourself and there'll just be so many opportunities there.

00:14:09.129 --> 00:14:16.533
I mean just visualizing, okay, me, I would say 2.0, but it's probably 12.0 at this point.

00:14:16.533 --> 00:14:22.113
What is Dr Leslie Golden CEO, 12.0 a year from now?

00:14:22.113 --> 00:14:23.765
What would she do right now?

00:14:23.765 --> 00:14:26.028
How would she approach this conversation?

00:14:26.028 --> 00:14:27.565
What would she tell herself?

00:14:27.565 --> 00:14:30.754
What would she consider to be a success?

00:14:30.754 --> 00:14:32.681
And it's definitely changed.

00:14:32.740 --> 00:14:45.633
And there's been a lot of difficult conversations, difficult decisions, and I used to I mean I'm still anxious about them to a point, but then I go in and I get it done.

00:14:45.633 --> 00:14:52.461
And here, lately, more and more, the afterthought is like, okay, I think I showed up pretty good there.

00:14:52.461 --> 00:14:55.285
Maybe next time I could think this through.

00:14:55.285 --> 00:14:57.691
But but it's the experience.

00:14:57.691 --> 00:15:02.046
And whereas, gosh, a year ago I would have been like, oh, I can't believe I did that.

00:15:02.046 --> 00:15:03.369
That was terrible, right.

00:15:03.428 --> 00:15:09.288
And so you just learn that the only way to learn is to do and to give yourself that grace.

00:15:09.288 --> 00:15:12.221
And so now I feel like I'm at the take.

00:15:12.221 --> 00:15:26.014
I take the approach of like, hey, I haven't done that before, let's do it, so I can go ahead and get this, let's check this off so I can get that experience in, and let's see how that changes me.

00:15:26.014 --> 00:15:43.066
And it's an incredible experience and I remember, years ago I heard someone say you know, become a millionaire, not to become a millionaire, but because of who you have to become, to build something that gets you a million dollars.

00:15:43.066 --> 00:15:47.336
And wow, it's something incredible.

00:15:49.081 --> 00:15:56.205
It is and I say this a lot and many students in the entrepreneur business school say it as well and it's this.

00:15:56.205 --> 00:15:58.927
I am so grateful for the people I get to serve.

00:15:58.927 --> 00:16:02.929
I'm so grateful for the money we make, the freedom this has created for me.

00:16:02.929 --> 00:16:07.793
But the thing I love the most about being an entrepreneur is who I've become.

00:16:07.793 --> 00:16:10.514
That's the most rewarding, because it's like who is this?

00:16:10.514 --> 00:16:12.236
I mean, I like her, but who is this?

00:16:12.236 --> 00:16:20.380
So you had this almost trepidation about having to deal with team and all of those things, right, but you're doing it.

00:16:20.380 --> 00:16:24.188
So, on the other side, what has that made possible for you?

00:16:24.188 --> 00:16:29.707
Like now that, rather than skipping out on the difficult conversation, you're having it.

00:16:29.707 --> 00:16:31.861
Rather than not coaching your team, you're coaching them.

00:16:31.861 --> 00:16:34.572
Rather than not sharing vision, you're sharing it rather than not coaching your team, you're coaching them.

00:16:34.572 --> 00:16:35.716
Rather than not sharing vision, you're sharing vision.

00:16:35.716 --> 00:16:36.298
What has this made possible?

00:16:36.298 --> 00:16:36.519
What's the?

00:16:36.519 --> 00:16:41.049
What's the roi, the return on investment on that, I think there's so many layers there.

00:16:41.191 --> 00:17:08.161
I mean, like I've learned to be comfortable and vulnerability so much more like with that team, like sharing with them, learning what is a good balance between transparency and and and kind of protecting some, you know, because you can't can't share all numbers, but we got to make sure we we share enough to where everyone understands what mission we're on and we're all rowing in the same direction.

00:17:08.161 --> 00:17:18.247
And you know I've I mean, one of the scariest things was taking on other providers, but it creates this great opportunity of um.

00:17:18.247 --> 00:17:53.169
You know they, they challenge me to improve my character by, by um, engaging with them and needing to be the person that can lead them and help them along the way and and and the probably the next level is is being able to serve so many more people.

00:17:53.169 --> 00:18:02.079
You know, for a long time I got stuck in like it's got to be me.

00:18:02.079 --> 00:18:08.905
You know I'm the only one who can, you know, change the culture.

00:18:08.905 --> 00:18:12.073
I'm the only one who can help patients see this or treat this.

00:18:12.073 --> 00:18:16.070
They all have the great results if they work with me.

00:18:16.070 --> 00:18:17.623
I don't know if I can pass that on.

00:18:17.702 --> 00:18:25.262
And it's a good, humbling experience to support others and be like, oh, okay, it works for them too.

00:18:25.262 --> 00:18:37.480
That's great, but also it gives so much freedom, um, but uh, also, you know it does.

00:18:37.480 --> 00:18:40.847
It gives so much freedom and when you embrace the team and it's, it's always more and more of a challenge of of.

00:18:40.847 --> 00:18:58.445
Even today, I had an episode of like, oh, I feel like I'm losing a little bit of control there, but actually I have a lot of freedom from allowing that, and you just have to learn that as you bring on team members, because I have a phenomenal director of operations.

00:18:58.526 --> 00:19:13.553
She's incredible, but it's taken a time of me letting her learn what I do, and downloading your brain is so, so hard.

00:19:13.553 --> 00:19:44.949
But but once, once you do it and you've, you've let people learn how you process and think it just opens up so much freedom for you to where they're, they're able to make calls almost like you were there, and so it's an investment, but it just it opens up so much opportunity and you know we talk about, like freedom of my, or freedom of money, time, um, relationships and freedom of purpose, and those are all.

00:19:44.949 --> 00:19:54.241
Which one is most important is different for everyone, um, and I think it shifts over time and you're not going to get to where you want to be with all four of them.

00:19:54.241 --> 00:19:58.450
Unless you bring a team on board, you're just not, oh man.

00:19:59.172 --> 00:20:00.134
Oh, my goodness, okay.

00:20:00.134 --> 00:20:01.806
So let's talk about some stuff here.

00:20:01.806 --> 00:20:09.825
Okay, we're going to talk about the dream life in a second, but listening to you talk about freedom and all the, you know this is not conversations.

00:20:09.825 --> 00:20:12.849
People in private practice have I know Okay, cause you know this is not conversations.

00:20:12.849 --> 00:20:20.205
People in private practice have I know Okay, because it burned out and these crazy insurance companies and all this stuff, right, but I want you to give us a little bit of perspective here.

00:20:20.205 --> 00:20:22.496
Okay, because I want people to understand the kind of practice you're running.

00:20:22.496 --> 00:20:28.092
I'm still saying these things, okay, so how many clinicians do you have working in your practice?

00:20:28.092 --> 00:20:33.971
For instance, how many new referrals did you get in the last 30 days?

00:20:33.971 --> 00:20:40.452
I just need people to paint a picture so people understand how big this thing is.

00:20:40.452 --> 00:20:44.198
And you're still talking about freedom, right, that's true, that's true.

00:20:44.479 --> 00:20:48.330
Yeah, and it's always that reminder, too, of like this is April 2023.

00:20:48.330 --> 00:20:52.000
So this is what we're sitting here in August 2024, right?

00:20:52.000 --> 00:21:04.202
So there's me, of course, and then I have another physician, two nurse practitioners, a registered dietitian and two health coaches.

00:21:04.202 --> 00:21:19.354
That have all been onboarded in that amount of time, and when we launched in April, I was full by June and having to bring on more help, and so we're still say that one more time.

00:21:19.494 --> 00:21:21.741
There's someone listening to this podcast, but they are the back.

00:21:21.741 --> 00:21:26.172
She started in April and she was full by June.

00:21:26.172 --> 00:21:26.913
Okay, good.

00:21:27.099 --> 00:21:34.173
I had to bring on other providers and they've been incredible and and a lot of that is just really a part of that.

00:21:34.173 --> 00:21:41.201
Sharing what you do, sharing your vision, you know, not just to get patients, but like-minded people.

00:21:41.201 --> 00:21:44.233
See what you're doing and they're like wow, that's what I want.

00:21:44.233 --> 00:21:47.363
You've created the world that I want to work and live in.

00:21:47.363 --> 00:21:53.773
You know, and a lot of the providers that actually I think most of have like came to me.

00:21:53.773 --> 00:21:58.200
You know so, and that's that's a great opportunity.

00:21:58.461 --> 00:22:06.451
So now we have that and we have essentially I was counting it up 18, a team of 18 at this point.

00:22:06.451 --> 00:22:09.164
So it's incredible.

00:22:09.164 --> 00:22:15.481
I mean, when I started this, I was like, oh, it'll just be a front desk staff, me and a nurse, and we'll take care of our patients.

00:22:15.481 --> 00:22:20.945
It'll be a simple little practice and that's all I want, right?

00:22:20.945 --> 00:22:48.713
So we had a suite in a medical office building and luckily, the suites on each side were non-clinical space, like administrative office space that the hospital that actually owns.

00:22:48.713 --> 00:22:51.039
It was able to move them to other locations.

00:22:51.039 --> 00:22:59.772
So we tore walls down and went that way last fall and we're just finishing tearing walls down and going down the other side.

00:22:59.772 --> 00:23:11.266
So, and yeah, we, we're usually booking out for for weeks to months, depending on the provider, for new patients and referrals.

00:23:11.266 --> 00:23:19.646
I mean we we usually get double digit referrals, I'd say you know most, most double digit only double digits.

00:23:20.169 --> 00:23:25.227
Okay, and over what time period On the for the referrals.

00:23:25.227 --> 00:23:26.590
You said double digits.

00:23:26.881 --> 00:23:33.826
Yeah, it depends on the day, but I'd say there's usually at least five to seven, most days definitely double digits each week.

00:23:33.826 --> 00:23:36.449
So we have referrals coming in all the time.

00:23:36.500 --> 00:23:38.711
And what's great is so many of our referrals too.

00:23:38.711 --> 00:23:40.019
We don't even count those right.

00:23:40.019 --> 00:23:47.068
So many of our referrals are from our patients right, and so we don't have the orders coming in to track those.

00:23:47.068 --> 00:24:02.781
But so we have such a great provider community that supports the work that we do, because we take this whole person comprehensive approach and we love our patient community and they feel the difference right.

00:24:02.781 --> 00:24:11.307
And our provider community knows like if they send patients to see us, they are not going to be treated with shame, blame or bias.

00:24:11.307 --> 00:24:13.690
You know we're here to help them and it makes a difference.

00:24:13.690 --> 00:24:14.553
And then, of course, you know our patients are going to be treated with shame, blame or bias.

00:24:14.553 --> 00:24:14.978
We're here to help them and it makes a difference.

00:24:14.978 --> 00:24:18.971
And then, of course, our patients are going to share that with their family and friends.

00:24:21.915 --> 00:24:24.018
So wild, so wild, I can't say it enough.

00:24:24.018 --> 00:24:30.321
But it's such a joy to watch your journey and see how far you've come.

00:24:30.321 --> 00:24:33.564
So talk to me about this whole.

00:24:33.564 --> 00:24:34.265
You burnt out at home.

00:24:34.265 --> 00:24:49.280
Is your marriage suffering because you're pouring all this time into the practice?

00:24:49.280 --> 00:24:52.208
Do you have time for the things that matter to you?

00:24:52.208 --> 00:24:54.038
Would you do this over?

00:24:54.038 --> 00:24:59.498
Are you like, oh my goodness, I'm, you know, like I'm so burnt out and stressed out Like what?

00:24:59.498 --> 00:25:01.141
What is going on with the rest of your life?

00:25:01.161 --> 00:25:01.480
Yeah.

00:25:01.480 --> 00:25:06.930
So I would just yeah, I would do it again all over.

00:25:06.930 --> 00:25:16.544
You know, I one of my original mentors when I finished residency we were employed together and he also, years ago, launched his own practice.

00:25:16.544 --> 00:25:19.076
And he asked me the other day he's like, would you do it all over again?

00:25:19.076 --> 00:25:20.757
I was like, absolutely yes.

00:25:22.978 --> 00:25:28.961
And you know, I think my life, my husband and I, are happy, we're wonderful.

00:25:28.961 --> 00:25:33.285
I think kids are proud of what we're doing.

00:25:33.285 --> 00:25:37.847
I mean, our 11 year old is always like you're going to go global.

00:25:37.847 --> 00:25:42.391
This is amazing and wants to be a part of everything.

00:25:42.391 --> 00:26:06.115
And I've been able to teach her so much, right, like she loves coming into the practice, acting like she owns the place, um, and everyone knows her and it's fun to teach her how to you know, fill out, uh, the deposit slips or you know, and and you passing on so many good things to her and teaching her not to be afraid to fail and to try things and put yourself out there.

00:26:06.115 --> 00:26:10.203
So there's always that value of remembering what you're doing and sharing.

00:26:10.203 --> 00:26:17.765
And you know, my husband is ridiculously proud of the person that I am and who I've become.

00:26:17.765 --> 00:26:20.178
You know he's been a huge supporter along the way.

00:26:20.178 --> 00:26:21.202
He's a huge supporter.

00:26:21.202 --> 00:26:22.126
Dr Una loves Dr Una.

00:26:22.126 --> 00:26:23.291
A huge supporter along the way.

00:26:23.332 --> 00:26:27.460
He's a huge supporter, dr Una loves Dr Una and I love him back.

00:26:27.460 --> 00:26:29.263
I'm just like he's a real MVP.

00:26:29.263 --> 00:26:38.259
I told you that right, like so big shout out to him, right, because his level of support for you is so amazing.

00:26:38.259 --> 00:26:44.820
When you did your anniversary, you changed your office, the logo, all of that stuff, and he recorded a video.

00:26:44.820 --> 00:26:47.417
I didn't even see him, like he was not on the video.

00:26:47.417 --> 00:26:51.055
You were on the video but he was saying you did that and all of that.

00:26:51.055 --> 00:26:56.847
You could hear the pride and the support and all of that, like just from the audio.

00:26:56.928 --> 00:27:04.065
It was so crazy you know like so so yeah, so in the in the Entremet Business School world, he's like a full-on celebrity.

00:27:04.645 --> 00:27:07.671
And there's just been great balance, like, sure, I mean, are there days?

00:27:07.671 --> 00:27:12.021
There's definitely been days where I'm like, oh, I don't know, I don't know if I can keep doing this.

00:27:12.021 --> 00:27:29.715
And then, thankfully, I've had a great community with EntreMD Business School and also like bringing on a team that will rally you too right, that will rally you too right.

00:27:29.715 --> 00:27:32.219
But overall, when I look at it, we launched in April.

00:27:32.219 --> 00:27:34.102
I went to Italy for a week in July, right.

00:27:34.102 --> 00:27:40.471
So we've gone on plenty of trips and vacations I have had time to.

00:27:40.795 --> 00:27:45.446
I'm the advocacy committee chair for the Obesity Medicine Association.

00:27:45.446 --> 00:27:51.887
I've gone to DC several times to advocate for better care and coverage.

00:27:51.887 --> 00:27:55.384
I've written articles that have been published.

00:27:55.384 --> 00:28:01.949
I've gone and given talks for the Obesity Action Coalition.

00:28:01.949 --> 00:28:07.086
I've gone to every conference related to my specialty.

00:28:07.086 --> 00:28:11.702
I've gone to trips for the Entremet Business School.

00:28:11.702 --> 00:28:34.963
We've went to Montana several times this year because my husband's father had some difficulties with his health and all those times I wasn't stressed, I wasn't worried, things were taken care of, right, and so this isn't in any way like I'm pulling my hair out and my life is falling apart and no it's.

00:28:35.124 --> 00:28:38.915
It's been an incredible balance and um, and we're happy.

00:28:38.915 --> 00:28:39.396
I mean I.

00:28:39.396 --> 00:28:40.117
I mean.

00:28:40.117 --> 00:28:45.868
There were times when I was practicing before that I wasn't sure if I made the right choice in my life.

00:28:45.868 --> 00:28:54.766
Right, and every day there there's really no matter how hard it may seem each day.

00:28:54.766 --> 00:28:59.550
Ever since I've done this, I know I'm where I'm supposed to be.

00:28:59.550 --> 00:29:03.546
You know, I'm happy with what I'm doing.

00:29:03.546 --> 00:29:08.165
There's no doubt in my mind that this is what I'm supposed to do with my life.

00:29:08.974 --> 00:29:15.486
So, and that's a Isn't that wild that at one stage, you're like I don't know if I made the right decision.

00:29:15.486 --> 00:29:17.299
And you're the same doc.

00:29:17.299 --> 00:29:24.005
You're still doing what you love as far as obesity, medicine and that, and in a different container, you're like this is exactly where I'm supposed to be.

00:29:24.005 --> 00:29:29.936
Like, isn't that crazy, right?

00:29:29.936 --> 00:29:34.214
Because for someone listening, a change in your container may be the only thing, a change in your approach, a change in the way you leverage team and all of that.

00:29:34.214 --> 00:29:37.000
And, man, this is good.

00:29:37.000 --> 00:29:38.321
Okay, this is good.

00:29:38.321 --> 00:29:55.585
So now for you, you know and I'm not sure what you'll say, but we'll see how this goes when you think about your journey because you've been in the Entree into Business School for a minute now how would you say that's supported you or helped you along your way?

00:29:55.585 --> 00:29:56.968
You know, like on this journey?

00:29:59.036 --> 00:30:01.058
It's really hard to separate those two things.

00:30:01.058 --> 00:30:14.368
I think there's just so much of, yeah, the strategies there, but that, the encouragement, the mindset, the example, people who have done it ahead of you.

00:30:14.368 --> 00:30:18.923
There's so many things where I could have come home.

00:30:18.923 --> 00:30:26.336
Or I was on my way home, lopey, like, oh, this didn't work out, and my amazing husband was like, did you talk to your people?

00:30:26.336 --> 00:30:40.607
You know, and I'd reach out or jump on to one of our sessions and you know, right away, so many people, oh, that happened to me and XYZ, and this is what ended up happening.

00:30:40.607 --> 00:31:01.567
And just so many examples of just keep moving forward, right, and you know, I was really concerned about the comparitis because I definitely allow that to impact me, but it really, it really isn't like that at all, like there's just so much of like, oh, I can take, I can take that from you.

00:31:01.567 --> 00:31:04.623
You're walking along with me and I can get that from you.

00:31:04.843 --> 00:31:57.967
And uh, man, I can't wait to get there and it's it's just a very different environment, but, um, you know the strategy supports there, but also the encouragement and the mindset, and you know when, when we talk about concepts, uh, like the gap and the gain and things like that, it is so easy to get caught in in the gap and it is nice to have a community of people that understand that and they know what's going on and they can immediately pull you forward and be like, let me point out the gain to you, because I've been here all along and then I think, just with EBS although I haven't done my Q2 and review still but I know, um, but there's so much built in of helping you remind yourself of the person you're becoming, cause, man, it's so easy to forget, um, how different you are and what you've achieved.

00:31:58.568 --> 00:32:02.778
And it's funny, cause I tell my patients all the time what are your wins.

00:32:02.778 --> 00:32:13.884
I'm sure you got to tell me you've accomplished something and you know it's always oh, the scale didn't change much, but oh, I can fit into the shirt I haven't worn in three years.

00:32:13.884 --> 00:32:20.547
And oh, my, oh, my goodness, I walked two miles and I haven't been over one mile in two years and I'm like what do you mean?

00:32:23.442 --> 00:32:26.188
nothing's happening, and it's the same thing in business right.

00:32:26.275 --> 00:32:32.628
Well, we're like, oh, things are falling apart and it's not working and Medicare is reducing how much they want to pay us and all this stuff.

00:32:32.628 --> 00:32:39.368
And then we look at all the things we've accomplished and it's like, oh, wow, we're thriving here.

00:32:42.778 --> 00:32:44.285
Oh man, that's amazing.

00:32:44.285 --> 00:32:45.780
Again, your husband for the win.

00:32:45.780 --> 00:32:49.385
He's happy to talk to your people.

00:32:49.385 --> 00:32:52.561
I'm here for you, but have you spoken to your people?

00:32:52.561 --> 00:32:53.124
I love it.

00:32:53.124 --> 00:33:00.423
I love it everybody.

00:33:00.805 --> 00:33:20.756
But for the person who is committed to building a business that allows them to practice medicine and to live life on their terms, it is 1000% a place for you, right, and you know it's as simple as meeting with the team on tramdcom forward slash call to kind of work through.

00:33:20.756 --> 00:33:22.519
Would this be a best next step for me?

00:33:22.519 --> 00:33:24.622
We're not about strong arming people.

00:33:24.622 --> 00:33:27.146
We're not about trying to get everybody into the school.

00:33:27.146 --> 00:33:36.058
If it's great for you and it's great for us and we can create a win-win where you're happy and I'm happy because you're winning, we're good, okay, so go schedule that call and check it out.

00:33:36.118 --> 00:33:38.422
But, dr Golden, where can people find you?

00:33:38.422 --> 00:33:46.176
Because I want, and for everybody watching or listening, this is a deal, okay, dr Golden has come here and she's shared her story.

00:33:46.176 --> 00:33:47.641
She's shared so many nuggets.

00:33:47.641 --> 00:33:49.125
She's taken us behind the scenes.

00:33:49.125 --> 00:33:51.501
So this is not a highlight reel on Instagram.

00:33:51.501 --> 00:33:52.727
This is a real deal.

00:33:52.727 --> 00:33:58.203
So you can learn something, experience something and say wait a minute, if she could do that, what could I do right?

00:33:58.203 --> 00:34:02.300
And so when you're done listening, she's going to tell us where we can find her.

00:34:02.300 --> 00:34:09.436
I want you to go to her social media, go support her, leave you know.

00:34:09.436 --> 00:34:10.378
Go to her website, go to her Google profile.

00:34:10.378 --> 00:34:17.322
You can leave a review, like whatever you want to do, but we're all about supporting other docs and this doc has come here to be a gift to us, so where can people find her?

00:34:17.704 --> 00:34:20.735
They can find me weight in gold wellness Facebook Instagram.

00:34:20.735 --> 00:34:20.936

00:34:20.936 --> 00:34:21.556
All right, weight in gold, okay.

00:34:21.757 --> 00:34:23.338
Facebook Instagram.

00:34:23.358 --> 00:34:23.498
YouTube.

00:34:23.498 --> 00:34:24.800
All right, weight in gold.

00:34:24.800 --> 00:34:28.826
Okay, instagram, facebook, youtube, go, subscribe to her YouTube channel.

00:34:28.826 --> 00:34:31.809

00:34:31.809 --> 00:34:32.630
I found her.

00:34:32.630 --> 00:34:35.257
Okay, I found her.

00:34:35.257 --> 00:34:39.583
Any final words Someone's listening, someone's for the first time.

00:34:39.583 --> 00:34:53.179
There's like, oh, my goodness, what if I could have a private practice like that, or like you know, the one I've been dreaming of, still have a life, my life is better and I can still do all these things I want to do?

00:34:53.179 --> 00:34:56.456
And they're like, wow, so they, you pique their interest.

00:34:56.456 --> 00:34:57.679
What will you leave them with?

00:34:58.201 --> 00:35:11.784
I think you know, a long time ago, I overheard someone say sometimes you have to write the book you've been needing to read right, and I'm not a writer yet, but I transitioned that At one point.

00:35:11.784 --> 00:35:28.059
I thought, you know, I need to create the practice that I'm wanting to work in, and so that I would challenge you that practice that you're dreaming about.

00:35:28.059 --> 00:35:29.706
I wish my practice where I worked was like this.

00:35:29.706 --> 00:35:31.110
You know what would be a great practice for me?

00:35:31.110 --> 00:35:31.572
I wish I could find it.

00:35:31.572 --> 00:35:32.876
Yeah, fine, you've already found it.

00:35:32.876 --> 00:35:37.264
It's, it's in your mind and I challenge you to build it.

00:35:37.264 --> 00:35:54.478
And and there there's support out there with with EBS, uh, you know it's worked for so many of us, and so that would be my what I would leave with build the practice that you've already created in your mind and it's waiting for you.

00:35:55.842 --> 00:35:56.605
Oh, my goodness.

00:35:56.605 --> 00:35:59.353
Okay, I've asked this question many times.

00:35:59.353 --> 00:36:01.097
I've gotten many different answers.

00:36:01.097 --> 00:36:02.340
Not this one.

00:36:02.340 --> 00:36:02.601
Yet.

00:36:02.601 --> 00:36:05.708
This was good, this was so good, all right, everyone.

00:36:05.788 --> 00:36:08.405
So you know how we are in the Entremdia world.

00:36:08.405 --> 00:36:10.414
It's not about just inspiration.

00:36:10.414 --> 00:36:12.639
It's about inspiration and implementation.

00:36:12.639 --> 00:36:19.782
So, even if it's just one, two, three ideas you got for this, go take some action on it, right?

00:36:19.782 --> 00:36:23.699
Because everything Dr Golden is talking about nothing would have happened if she didn't take action.

00:36:24.179 --> 00:36:39.768
If you're here and you've been on the fence for six months, a year, two years, I will tell you there are people in the business school are like man, I listened to the podcast for two years and now that I'm in the school, I'm like, shoot, I should have done this much earlier, right?

00:36:39.768 --> 00:36:41.778
So I'm giving you inside information.

00:36:41.778 --> 00:36:43.242
So go schedule a call.

00:36:43.242 --> 00:36:45.387
Your decision is not to get into school yet.

00:36:45.387 --> 00:37:00.744
Your decision is go book the call on trepiducom forward, slash, call and let this episode be an episode that radically changed your life, because you took action, you got inspired, you got some mindset shifts, you got some strategy and you took action.

00:37:00.884 --> 00:37:15.907
Okay, dr Golden, thank you so much for coming on and thank you for sharing, and I promise you this is going to be a gift that keeps giving to the entire physician community, whether they're private practice or not, because your story is a story of a unicorn, right?

00:37:15.907 --> 00:37:23.221
Like you're a unicorn level physician and you're inviting other people, like come be a unicorn with me, like we can do this and we can.

00:37:23.221 --> 00:37:29.777
This is what the reality of physicians can be and that's what OnTrend is all about.

00:37:29.777 --> 00:37:31.922
So thank you, thank you, thank you so much.

00:37:32.704 --> 00:37:33.507
Thank you for having me.

00:37:33.507 --> 00:37:34.597
It's been great to share.

00:37:36.221 --> 00:37:37.222
Absolutely All right.

00:37:37.222 --> 00:37:38.545
People go do the things.

00:37:38.545 --> 00:37:39.869
I will see you on the next episode.
