00:00:00.119 --> 00:00:16.080
If you find yourself in a position where you are super grateful for the wins you've created in your business, but you are unbelievably stressed out by the chaos that those wins have celebrated, you're in for a treat, because today I'm going to show you how to go from chaos to peace in your business.

00:00:16.080 --> 00:00:30.853
Okay, hi dogs, welcome to the EntreMD podcast, where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms.

00:00:30.853 --> 00:00:32.686
I'm your host, dr Una.

00:00:32.686 --> 00:00:41.530
So this all started because I was talking with a client of mine.

00:00:41.530 --> 00:00:44.869
A client of mine sent me a text message that said I have only done this for a week, but this is a total of mine.

00:00:44.869 --> 00:00:50.006
A client of mine sent me a text message that said I have only done this for a week, but this is a total game changer.

00:00:50.006 --> 00:00:51.590
I have my life back.

00:00:51.590 --> 00:00:56.067
In fact, I'm going to look for the exact words that he used.

00:00:56.067 --> 00:00:58.554
He said done with my first week.

00:00:58.554 --> 00:00:59.758
What a success.

00:00:59.758 --> 00:01:02.183
Three exclamation marks, thank you so much for sharing.

00:01:02.304 --> 00:01:12.564
Now, before this, this person is a genius entrepreneur, like really savvy entrepreneur, started with one company, is now running three companies, has a wife, has three kids.

00:01:12.564 --> 00:01:17.884
But with running three companies now, life has become a little more chaotic, right?

00:01:17.884 --> 00:01:21.733
So endless emails, endless texts, endless projects to work on.

00:01:21.733 --> 00:01:27.150
Working at night, because he's like this is the only time it's really quiet, I can work without any interruptions.

00:01:27.150 --> 00:01:31.626
And he's in his forties, so you know like sleeping at night is something that you know he really should be doing.

00:01:31.626 --> 00:01:37.802
And at the same time, he was dropping balls because you know, like administrative tasks, if I'm doing that, I'm not really working.

00:01:37.802 --> 00:01:41.070
So he never really had an allocated time for it.

00:01:41.070 --> 00:01:42.632
So he's like I feel like I'm letting people down.

00:01:42.632 --> 00:01:43.632
I feel so much pressure.

00:01:43.632 --> 00:01:49.716
And you know, I told him two things to do and I said you do these two things, it's going to change everything for you.

00:01:49.716 --> 00:01:51.218
And he did those two things.

00:01:51.218 --> 00:01:55.647
He had only practiced it for a week when he sent me that text and he's like what a success.

00:01:55.647 --> 00:01:57.031
I have my life back, okay.

00:01:57.031 --> 00:01:57.852
And guess what?

00:01:57.852 --> 00:02:00.552
Now he's like and I'm no longer working at night.

00:02:00.552 --> 00:02:02.313
You know I can sleep at night and work during the day.

00:02:02.313 --> 00:02:04.495
It's just fantastic, it's a total turnaround.

00:02:04.614 --> 00:02:09.236
You may be tempted to say well, this doesn't apply to me, I'm not running zero businesses and all that.

00:02:09.236 --> 00:02:12.438
The principle is the same, no matter what kind of business you're running.

00:02:12.438 --> 00:02:17.611
So I really want you to lean in and I want you to think about how to use this in your business.

00:02:17.611 --> 00:02:23.209
I want you to give it a shot, because this is all around mastering the use of time.

00:02:23.209 --> 00:02:29.840
Time mastery is all around mastering the use of time, time mastery, which is really life mastery.

00:02:29.840 --> 00:02:32.564
And you know like this is the currency of freedom.

00:02:32.564 --> 00:02:37.242
Like when you have freedom of time, you have freedom right, and so the more you learn how to do it, the better you get at it, the better life you have.

00:02:37.242 --> 00:02:39.427
You can truly have a dream business and a dream life.

00:02:39.427 --> 00:02:41.460
So let's talk about those two things.

00:02:41.820 --> 00:02:47.229
So the first thing that I told him to do, I said you are allowing your phone run your life.

00:02:47.229 --> 00:02:52.783
Your phone is your boss and you want to flip that and become the boss of your phone.

00:02:52.783 --> 00:02:55.050
This is going to be so simple, so simple.

00:02:55.050 --> 00:02:58.703
You'd be like, really, dr Una, but really, but if you do it, it will change everything.

00:02:58.703 --> 00:03:00.544
So I said become the boss of your phone.

00:03:00.544 --> 00:03:02.227
And so I told him I said for my phone.

00:03:02.227 --> 00:03:03.949
My phone does not direct me.

00:03:03.949 --> 00:03:05.390
I go to my phone when I want.

00:03:05.390 --> 00:03:07.592
There are no email notifications.

00:03:07.592 --> 00:03:08.735
There are no.

00:03:08.735 --> 00:03:11.784
You know the red alert to say you have three unread emails.

00:03:11.784 --> 00:03:13.913
There are no Facebook notifications.

00:03:13.913 --> 00:03:15.319
There are no Twitter notifications.

00:03:15.319 --> 00:03:17.424
There are no Instagram notifications.

00:03:17.424 --> 00:03:20.550
There's no notifications like none.

00:03:20.550 --> 00:03:22.133
No WhatsApp notifications.

00:03:22.133 --> 00:03:25.969
Whenever I want to go into those apps, I go into those apps.

00:03:25.969 --> 00:03:32.853
I am in control, okay, and I told him I put my phone on a work mode like things just don't show up.

00:03:33.000 --> 00:03:40.091
But he was in a situation where the email will pop up and then he'll have to go look and the text will pop up and he'll have to go look and a calendar alert will come and he'll have to go look.

00:03:40.091 --> 00:03:47.444
And so, because of that, he was constantly being distracted all through the day and he was forced to multitask.

00:03:47.444 --> 00:03:52.008
He was forced to do multiple things at the same time, which you know just never works.

00:03:52.008 --> 00:04:03.936
And he said you know, like just changing that one thing, like putting that on, he's like the amount of mental clutter that I got rid of because things were just not coming in my way.

00:04:03.936 --> 00:04:22.884
He even put in like a do not disturb and he just had a few phone numbers that could reach him when it was his work time and so, because of that, anybody who had something to do which is never urgent enough to break anything right Like he's rarely ever urgent enough to break anything Like he would get to it when the time for him to get to it came.

00:04:22.884 --> 00:04:27.004
But then he had these times when he could do focused work.

00:04:27.004 --> 00:04:39.230
And if you've ever done focused work, if you've ever taken three or four hours to work on one task, you'll be so blown away by the amount of work and the quality of work you can do when you're focused, when you're able to do deep work.

00:04:39.230 --> 00:04:46.331
And so he put himself in that position and he said, oh, my goodness, like this has totally changed my life.

00:04:46.331 --> 00:04:48.165
My output is so much higher.

00:04:48.165 --> 00:04:50.913
My mental clutter is like almost gone.

00:04:50.913 --> 00:04:52.738
I have my life back.

00:04:52.920 --> 00:04:55.476
And you might say, okay, that's simple, okay, good, good, dr Uno, what's the next one?

00:04:55.476 --> 00:05:02.081
But I want to stop you right here and say this is a time to make a commitment, a commitment that, okay, I'm going to do that.

00:05:02.081 --> 00:05:03.985
I am going to go into all these apps.

00:05:03.985 --> 00:05:10.336
I'm not going to let them ding and dong and put alerts on my phone and all of that stuff and constantly distract me.

00:05:10.336 --> 00:05:12.238
This is your one precious life.

00:05:12.238 --> 00:05:15.083
You have the opportunity to build a really great business.

00:05:15.083 --> 00:05:20.990
You have the opportunity to live without mental clutter, and it's all tied to this one step on your phone.

00:05:21.375 --> 00:05:31.937
Okay, so this is something that you absolutely want to schedule a time to get done, or you want to do it right now and just take all those notifications off, like every last one of them, so you can go to them when you want them.

00:05:31.937 --> 00:05:33.699
Set work hours on your phone.

00:05:33.699 --> 00:05:35.923
So these are the times things just don't come in.

00:05:35.923 --> 00:05:41.189
It will actually with the iPhone, it will actually mute your apps and stuff.

00:05:41.189 --> 00:05:45.850
So your screensaver is just nice and clean and clear so you can focus on work.

00:05:45.850 --> 00:05:49.661
Because the mental clutter is real and it is so draining.

00:05:49.721 --> 00:05:51.324
The way he described it is.

00:05:51.324 --> 00:06:01.860
He said an email will come in and he's like, oh, I'll get to that later, but because he saw it, his mind will still be processing okay, what could the email be about?

00:06:01.860 --> 00:06:02.504
What would my response be?

00:06:02.504 --> 00:06:03.045
What could I do with this?

00:06:03.045 --> 00:06:16.163
So, even though he said I will do it later, so technically he's not being distracted he was being royally distracted because he still saw it, and so doing that one thing will create such a huge change, and I want to challenge you to really go in on that.

00:06:16.163 --> 00:06:17.024
So that's the first one.

00:06:17.225 --> 00:06:26.439
The second thing that I told him to do, I said okay, you're at a stage in your business where you have three businesses that you're responsible for, you have all these projects, you have life.

00:06:26.439 --> 00:06:29.406
Now you're going to homeschool your kids and all of this stuff.

00:06:29.406 --> 00:06:41.269
You really want to put yourself in a position where you are doing theme days and so, for each day, you're able to go really deep on a few things, as opposed to trying to touch everything every day.

00:06:41.269 --> 00:07:05.545
Granted, you may be running one business, you may still be very heavily involved in the service delivery of it, and so I still want you to think about how you can do theme days again, as opposed to trying to do everything every day, which a lot of times will either lead to analysis paralysis, because you're like there's too much to do and I don't have time to do it, or it puts you in a position where you're just running like a scatterbrain.

00:07:05.545 --> 00:07:10.947
You don't get the opportunity to do anything long enough to do it really well.

00:07:10.947 --> 00:07:16.767
So your genius is hidden if you cannot get the time to do deep work.

00:07:16.894 --> 00:07:21.346
What he ended up doing was he had one day that was like his planning day.

00:07:21.346 --> 00:07:27.360
So for the projects, you know what is the project, what is the problem we're trying to solve, what are the steps, who do I need to get involved in this?

00:07:27.360 --> 00:07:27.762
All of that.

00:07:27.762 --> 00:07:31.262
So he's mapping out everything, and so that was his planning day.

00:07:31.262 --> 00:07:35.819
So not planning the week, but planning his projects, which is very different from delivering on.

00:07:35.819 --> 00:07:45.718
He can do it deep and he can go on all three companies, but he can go deep on, okay, this project, these are the things that I need to do.

00:07:45.718 --> 00:07:49.180
And then he had another day that was kind of his meeting day.

00:07:49.180 --> 00:07:53.541
So the decision makers for the three main companies that he's running, and all of that.

00:07:53.541 --> 00:07:57.471
This is when we do our meetings, this is when I do our strategy, this is when we do all of that stuff.

00:07:58.031 --> 00:08:03.119
And then the three days in between are service delivery days where he's working on the projects.

00:08:03.119 --> 00:08:04.439
He's not talking to anybody.

00:08:04.439 --> 00:08:06.702
There are no meetings scheduled there, there's no planning there.

00:08:06.702 --> 00:08:09.487
It's just execution, execution, execution.

00:08:09.487 --> 00:08:14.218
I want you to think about this, right, and I think on one of the days he had half a day that was admin, you know.

00:08:14.218 --> 00:08:16.802
So you know emails he had to get to and all of those kinds of things.

00:08:16.802 --> 00:08:18.271
And so I was like, how, how was it?

00:08:18.271 --> 00:08:23.862
He's like, oh, my goodness, the ability to have these three days where I just go in and I'm knocking out projects.

00:08:23.862 --> 00:08:25.665
I'm knocking out projects, I'm getting things done.

00:08:25.665 --> 00:08:28.516
He says this was such a game changer for me.

00:08:28.516 --> 00:08:36.698
Such a game changer for me because now my output is so much higher and I get to do deep work, like when I get on a roll, I can just stay on the roll.

00:08:36.698 --> 00:08:39.251
So that was what happened with the service delivery part of it.

00:08:39.793 --> 00:08:48.841
And then for his planning days, he's like now, you know, I have less fires that I need to put out, because every week I'm coming back and I'm like, okay, what's the next project?

00:08:48.841 --> 00:08:52.666
You know, what do we need to do, what are the steps, who needs to be involved, all those things.

00:08:52.666 --> 00:09:00.230
He uses a task manager, so everybody has what they're supposed to be doing and everybody's on the same page.

00:09:00.230 --> 00:09:10.538
And then for the meetings, he said what is so wonderful about that is that now he has all these meetings and people know on Friday, at whatever, this is when I meet with this company, so people are not trying to meet with him all through the week and all of those things.

00:09:10.538 --> 00:09:11.958
He has a designated time.

00:09:11.958 --> 00:09:14.380
They're able to do really high capacity work.

00:09:14.380 --> 00:09:25.811
And now he has his time back that I could only work at night because that was the only time that was quiet and I can get deep work done.

00:09:26.131 --> 00:09:30.581
He says what I didn't realize is that I had been distracting myself so much.

00:09:30.581 --> 00:09:40.676
I had been distracting myself so much by my phone and everyone having access to me at every time and not having themed days, so everything was everywhere.

00:09:40.676 --> 00:09:49.179
But now that everything has a home, I just work when I'm supposed to work, and now me being up at night is an exception rather than the rule.

00:09:49.179 --> 00:09:56.890
I want you to think about going from being awake most nights to rarely being awake just because you did two things right.

00:09:56.890 --> 00:10:01.001
And so he did the theme days and that has been an absolute game changer for him.

00:10:01.269 --> 00:10:02.573
That is what I do as well.

00:10:02.573 --> 00:10:03.857
My know my phone.

00:10:03.857 --> 00:10:05.893
I go to it when I want to go to it.

00:10:05.893 --> 00:10:09.546
There are no alerts, no notifications, nothing.

00:10:09.546 --> 00:10:11.692
There's just nothing happening on it.

00:10:11.692 --> 00:10:17.183
The same with my computer I go to it when I want to go to it and I do theme days.

00:10:17.490 --> 00:10:19.254
So you know the companies that I lead.

00:10:19.254 --> 00:10:22.871
I have a day where I meet with all the leaders of those companies.

00:10:22.871 --> 00:10:25.961
I have a day that is my content creation.

00:10:25.961 --> 00:10:32.196
So whether that's podcast episodes, emails, social media, books that I'm working on, all of that, it's like a whole day.

00:10:32.196 --> 00:10:34.818
So when I get into that groove, I can stay in that groove.

00:10:34.818 --> 00:10:43.259
I have a day that is, you know, I kind of call it my personal development day, and so the coaching program that I'm, you know I'm a part of doing that work.

00:10:43.259 --> 00:10:50.118
You know, like all of those things will fall under that the books that I need to read, the courses that I need to complete, and all of that.

00:10:50.118 --> 00:10:52.879
I have a day that's for collaborations and things.

00:10:52.879 --> 00:10:56.796
So I just have all these things product developments, I have all these things.

00:10:56.796 --> 00:10:59.610
I didn't start doing this when I started running multiple companies.

00:10:59.610 --> 00:11:01.256
I started doing this a long time ago.

00:11:04.509 --> 00:11:13.097
But you know, like, even for you let's even say you're in a busy practice and you're seeing patients four days a week Well, that one day that you have, there's a half a day you can devote to something right.

00:11:13.097 --> 00:11:20.312
You can devote to, maybe, the projects, the development projects that you work on in your business, and you can have another half of the day.

00:11:20.312 --> 00:11:24.302
That is for your team meetings or your team trainings and stuff like that.

00:11:24.302 --> 00:11:32.520
You can have, you know, a two hour block here you have that is for admin, like, you just want to have these blocks, and they're recurring.

00:11:32.520 --> 00:11:38.739
So even when people say, oh, I want to meet with you about XYZ, you don't even have to think about when am I going to meet with this person.

00:11:38.739 --> 00:11:44.361
You can legit go like, okay, I can meet with you on Friday, xyz time, because that is when that happens, right?

00:11:48.309 --> 00:11:50.802
So I want you to start thinking about things in that way and these are the two things that you absolutely want to change.

00:11:50.802 --> 00:11:54.437
Number one, you want to become the boss of your phone instead of allowing your phone to be the boss of you.

00:11:54.437 --> 00:12:05.965
And then, number two, you want to start thinking theme day so you can do deep work, you can do long work, and this is something that is going to make you a lot more productive and you're going to get a lot more done in less time.

00:12:05.965 --> 00:12:08.269
You're going to have so much more calm and peace.

00:12:08.269 --> 00:12:23.895
You're going to put yourself in a position where, oh, my goodness, you can get your time back to spend with your family, to sleep, to take care of yourself, to think I even have themed thinking right, you can do all of these things.

00:12:23.895 --> 00:12:29.874
It would change the way you lead your team, it would change your output, it would change the number of clients or patients that you have.

00:12:29.874 --> 00:12:31.999
It would change the peace that you feel.

00:12:31.999 --> 00:12:41.854
It will change the way you feel about your work, because you'll be building a business that allows you have the time to build your dream life right.

00:12:41.934 --> 00:12:51.052
So I want you to go apply this and come back and send me a DM or send me a private message and say Dr Una, this is what happened when I made these two changes.

00:12:51.052 --> 00:12:52.335
I got my life back.

00:12:52.335 --> 00:12:53.538
I got my time back.

00:12:53.538 --> 00:13:01.572
I am rooting for you because I am a big believer that every doctor deserves to have a dream life and a dream business right, like you deserve to have both.

00:13:01.572 --> 00:13:05.692
You've put your life on hold for long enough and now this is your time, okay.

00:13:05.692 --> 00:13:07.035
So, absolutely rooting for you.

00:13:07.035 --> 00:13:07.918
Go do this.

00:13:07.918 --> 00:13:11.075
Cannot wait to see you know, like, how you use it for your own good.

00:13:11.075 --> 00:13:12.317
