One part of this throwback conversation really caught my attention.
She talked about entering cannabis accounting in 2017, when the industry was still developing and many of the rules were being written in real time.
At first, she felt like a fraud.
She thought that as a CPA, she should already know the answers.
But the more she worked in the space, the more she realized that everyone was learning. Regulators were still figuring things out. Attorneys were learning. Accountants were learning.
So instead of treating that uncertainty as proof that she did not belong, she found mentors, invested in education, and kept building her expertise.
Eventually, she realized other accountants probably felt the same way, which led her toward education and training as well. 📚
I think that is a useful lesson in any fast-changing profession.
You do not have to know everything immediately. You do need to be willing to learn, ask questions, and keep getting better.
