Why CPAs Can Become Powerful Business Advisors

One of the things I have always appreciated about being a CPA is how much of a client's financial picture we get to see.

We see the books. We see the cash flow. We see where money is being spent and where there may be problems inside the business.

That gives CPAs an opportunity to become much more than tax preparers.

We can become advisors who help clients understand what the numbers are actually telling them about their business.

In this throwback interview with Jeff Crilley, I also shared a little about where my own interest in finance came from.

Growing up, we did not have a lot of money. My mom was a single teacher, and financial security mattered to me from a young age.

That eventually pushed me toward finance, accounting, and tax planning.

Looking back, I think that personal motivation is part of why I became so interested in helping clients understand their own financial picture too.

The numbers tell us what happened. Good advisory work helps us decide what to do with that information next. 📊
