This is a throwback to an interview I did with Jeff Crilley when I had just finished my doctorate in biblical leadership at Regent University.
At the time, my final project had turned into a 63,000-word book called The Balance Sheet of Life.
And yes, I was basically doing all of this for fun.
What I was really trying to work through was something much more personal.
We're taught to measure success by money, career, profit, and achievement. But I kept feeling like that definition was incomplete.
What about faith?
What about relationships?
What about actually enjoying your life?
And what about the parts of yourself nobody sees?
In this conversation, I also shared that I had dealt with major depressive disorder since childhood. Most people would never have known because I was still the Type A, go-go-go person on the outside.
Writing about that part of my life was healing.
Watching this old interview now, I can see how many of the ideas I still talk about today were already there.
