In this throwback episode of The Concierge CPA Podcast, I sat down with Naomi Granger to talk about the career path that eventually led her into cannabis accounting and education.
By the time we had this conversation, Naomi had already spent 18 years in accounting.
Her background included public accounting, corporate accounting, and experience at PwC, Deloitte, and Ernst & Young.
Then she reached a point where she knew she wanted to work for herself.
What I liked about her story is that she did not have the answer immediately.
At first, Naomi thought becoming an entrepreneur might mean learning an entirely new skill set. She explored website building and other options before realizing that accounting was already the skill she knew incredibly well.
That led her toward remote accounting practices and, eventually, toward the idea of finding a specific niche.
In 2017, she chose cannabis accounting after seeing the direction the industry was moving. 🌱
It is a great example of how a career pivot does not always require starting over. Sometimes you take years of experience, find an underserved market, and become much more specific about where you want to use what you already know.
