The Activity Continues

In this week’s spring break episode we are discussing The Dead Files “Killed by the Klan” (Season 1 Episode 7) which aired November 11, 2011. We pondered if the Klan dare eat spaghetti or lasagna in their white robes, which led to the creation of our new favorite pasta, Spagania. We also talked about kitchen reiki, voodoo curses, and there were more impersonations of Steve.

Remember, we’re not experts, we just act like we are.

[00:00:00] Megan: There we go. There we go. I nailed it.

[00:00:04] Amy: I said I nailed it. Now you can hear? Yes. Okay. So stop

[00:00:08] Megan: talking

[00:00:08] Amy: shit about me.

 I got my

[00:00:11] Megan: sage this shit candle that I just lit. Nice.

[00:00:14] Amy: AP, you look very,

[00:00:16] Megan: like, 80s. It looks like you're really sportin like a suede blazer.

[00:00:19] Amy: Yeah, I love the blazer. I do too. It's actually, it's actually like

[00:00:23] AP: corduroy. Oh.

[00:00:24] Amy: And then it has Nice.

[00:00:26] Megan: Oh, that is

[00:00:27] Amy: very cool. That's almost more seventies.

[00:00:31] Megan: Yeah. That is

[00:00:32] Amy: there fringe on it. Yeah. And actually

[00:00:33] AP: I , I don't do, I don't usually do fringe, but I do have a pair, a couple pairs of wide leg pants and I definitely feel the seventies vibes when I wear those wide Legg pants and like stuff like this, so.

[00:00:48] Amy: Okay.

I took notes this episode, you guys. Sweet. And I was telling Amy before you got on AP that I just finished watching the episode like

  1. I told her we kind of assumed that.

[00:01:00] AP: When I saw your, your title come through, I was like, Oh, I wonder if she's watching right now.

[00:01:06] Amy: First of all, correct. I know you.

[00:01:10] Megan: Yes. Yes. Did I, or did I not finish it?

[00:01:15] Amy: Hey, that's all that matters. I came prepared with notes. Nice. I have mine on my tablet. I was going to say,

[00:01:25] Megan: I thought I saw something on the screen

[00:01:28] Amy: down below. I didn't want, I don't want to put it on my computer because it makes my face the wrong color and everything.

And so I thought I would try, I thought I would try this instead. That was mean. But funny, but it's the same for all of us. What I see right now is I look yellow, orange, and you look, Megan, you look like I white tank and Amy, you look a little bit darker than Megan, but I wish there was a way we could get us all to look the same.

I don't know how to do that. We all have the same lights. We all have the same cameras. I don't know why

[00:02:06] Megan: in our uniqueness. Okay. I don't want to conform.

[00:02:10] Amy: Well, that's the background. You do what you want with your background. Anyway, we should probably get started, huh? 17 minutes in.

[00:02:17] Megan: Just

[00:02:18] Amy: dive on in. I'm going to tell you about

[00:02:21] AP: Briggs later on.

Oh, right,

[00:02:22] Amy: right. So, 5, and we all say hello, and then Megan can start. Sure. Okay. Five, four, three, two, one. Hello.

[00:02:36] Megan: AP, you were late on that. Thanks for joining us again.

[00:02:40] AP: Just your sound system.

[00:02:43] Megan: While Amy and I were together. And

[00:02:45] Amy: you were not on my end.

[00:02:49] Megan: Okay. Thanks for joining us again. This is our second episode in our spring break series.

Ghosts gone. Why Amy picked the one that we're discussing today. So Amy, why don't you tell the fans why you chose it?

[00:03:05] Amy: Well, alrighty. Today I picked killed by the clan, which is in season one, episode seven, and I didn't pick it for this reason, but I like this. It aired 11 11 11. Okay. I do like that.

Isn't that cool? That's really neat. Yeah. So November 11th, 2011 and I picked it because, well first of all I was looking at early ones 'cause I really like the early ones because they're so cute. And we and babies, they are so

[00:03:30] Megan: adorable. I know. I thought that today when I was watching it, I was like, Steve looks so young.

[00:03:35] Amy: I know. They all do. Mm-Hmm, .

[00:03:37] Megan: Yeah. That's so cute. Like when

[00:03:38] Amy: he was so nice. So , I think

[00:03:41] AP: he's still nice.

[00:03:42] Amy: There's just. He just is a nice to everybody different, allegedly different,

[00:03:47] AP: different,

[00:03:51] Megan: different.

[00:03:54] Amy: So partly because of that, partly because I seem to remember Amy saying that this was one of the episodes, Amy Allen, that is saying that this is one of the episodes that scared her the most after watching it again, I don't.

I didn't really see that. So I think I

might

[00:04:09] AP: have mixed. I saw a different Key West one or a different one down in that area.

[00:04:12] Amy: Well, I had in my head that it was something about the Klan. So maybe it's another one about the Klan. I'm thinking now that maybe it's that one that really was scary. The one with the the Klan people in this.

In the forest, it was that lady who lived in like a, like a van kind of, not a van, but you know, a, a trailer home or whatever, motor home. And she had that, her friend was a trucker and he lived there and he just wasn't there all the time. That one was really scary. Yes. I think it was that one that I remember that one so much, but I didn't remember that one being so early, but that might have been, it might've been that was, that was really, really scary.

That was one of those. That was a good one. I don't remember the name of that one either, but, but we did cover that one. It's called Scared Megan. It's called it should be scared the shit out of all of us. Yeah, that was a scary one. But anyway, so this was a good one, but it's not. It was the reason I picked it is not.

What it ended up being, but, but there we are. It was still a good one. It was a good one. Yeah. And it takes place in Key West, Florida, which is I picked it because of Key West. Because that's a party town as Steve will say.

[00:05:13] Megan: But not everyone's here is having a good time. Is what he said.

[00:05:19] Amy: That was really good.

The episode I just edited today. I did a Steve impression and you guys were like, Oh my God, that was spot on. But I, I like that. We all try to do Steve.

[00:05:31] Megan: I was like, Oh my God, is it Steve? No, it's Amy. That's what I said. I was like,

[00:05:36] Amy: Steve, Steve here.

So AP is going to give us the little content warning. I shouldn't say little. AP is going to give us the content warning.

[00:05:45] AP: There's just a couple of things. I don't know if you can guess by the title of this episode, which was What I like about the first season is they are quite literal in the naming of the episodes.

So killed by the Klan surprise. We have mentioned of our favorite people in the white hats. Not at all. If you can't understand my sarcasm, maybe you'll hear my eyes roll to the back of my head. There was disgusting, despicable me. No, that's a good movie. I

[00:06:19] Amy: was so good. I know. I'm glad you

[00:06:22] Megan: caught that. I'm glad you caught that.

[00:06:25] AP: Anyways yeah, so hey, A. B. here. Content warning, torture, beatings, hanging, the Klan. Racism. I think that was pretty well implied by the Klan. I just

[00:06:39] Megan: wanted to clarify. The R

[00:06:42] Amy: word. Yeah.

[00:06:45] AP: I wonder if they ever spill on their robes and are like, Dang it. Spaghetti.

[00:06:49] Amy: They probably don't eat spaghetti when they're wearing their robes.

I don't know. They're

[00:06:51] Megan: pretty fucking stupid. They probably do. That's true. Spaghetti and lasagna all rolled into one. Lasenni. Spaggania.

[00:06:58] Amy: Spaggania. I love it. I mean, they're basically

[00:07:04] Megan: the same thing. If we have any Italian listeners. If we have any Italian listeners, we don't anymore.

[00:07:10] Amy: You were going to apologize, but you're just like, oh, they're already gone.

I'm so sorry, you guys. I don't mean it.

[00:07:15] AP: We have some fun. I would also say there's. You could probably play a drinking game with one of the phrases that they use about 17, 000 times. I literally

[00:07:24] Megan: wrote that in my notes. How many times are we going to say this phrase?

[00:07:27] AP: Especially in just one section around.

Yep. And then there's, yeah, just a sign of the times using the term prostitute instead of sex worker. Sign of the times. Yeah, so that's there's language. There's always going to be language and I'll say Mostly from us. Yes. Yes. And cringy language from the episode in general.

[00:07:49] Amy: Yeah. Yeah. They weren't they weren't exactly politically savvy in this one then.

Yeah. It was not great. It wasn't.

[00:07:59] Megan: I, yeah, I did say in my notes, how many times do we need to say tarred and feathered because it's about 3,

[00:08:04] Amy: 700. Yeah, that's true. And, and it, and when, when they said it, I know we're not really deep diving in yet. We haven't even done this overview, but but when he. When the guy said it to Steve, Steve looked, maybe they edited it wrong.

Now, now I just don't, I don't know what to believe anymore, but I feel like

[00:08:23] Megan: in the earlier episodes, it's probably more on par than it is in

[00:08:27] AP: the later. There's a lot of scripting though, in this one, you can, some of the phrases they say and you're like.

[00:08:33] Amy: Okay. Yeah. But when, when they said it, when the guy said it to Steve, Steve looked perplexed, like he didn't know what it was.

And I'm like, how do you not know what you obviously know what that is? But then the guy explained what it is. So that made me think that the producer said, Hey, Steve, pretend like you don't know what the fuck that is. And then the guy has to explain it, whatever. I don't know. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So the only housekeeping I have is that we have been.

I'm invited to guest on another podcast for the first time ever, pretty excited. We're so excited. We're going to record next week. The show is called history goes bump. And I want to mention that I had a quite a fangirl moment when I got the message or the little invitation from the host, because I. I used to listen to that podcast, like, I don't know, six or seven years ago, and.

It was, I think Megan, it was when we worked together and I used to go roam around downtown in the Skyway system for lunch, listening to podcasts. And I listened to that one a lot. I just picture myself sitting at this one cafe I used to go to all the time listening to them and I loved their show. It's, it's a really fun show.

Yeah, it's really cool. So I was really excited when she reached out to me, Diane, her name is. Oh, and so I think it'll be super fun and we're all three going to be on and she's got a co host too. So it can be five of us while talking over each other. I will say the only thing that I'm a little worried about is they don't swear.

I

[00:10:14] Megan: cannot swear. Oh, gosh, darn it.

[00:10:17] Amy: Golly, gosh, darn. Oh, shoot. So, yeah, we gotta

[00:10:21] AP: do my best. Oh, darn. But I can't fucking promise anything.

[00:10:24] Amy: I know. Okay. I'm a little, I'm offended. I was a little worried. I mean, that F word. It's offensive. I'm usually pretty good, like around parents and stuff. Like, yeah, I'm pretty good.

So just pretend like, you know, my mom's on or something. I don't know. Anyway, excited about that. We're just going to talk about our ghost experiences. She wants to know about all of our, you know, stuff we've seen and heard and smelled. Like what I had this weekend. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yes.

[00:10:54] AP: Yeah. So I am house sitting at my sister's house and this is the first time since Briggs passed that I did not bring since I, I don't have Briggs with me.

And When I stayed here in June, I, I brought one of my other dogs with, but just with things going on with her dogs and everything else, I just decided not to bring one to make it easier, but it hit me pretty hard on Saturday. I was like, normally he'd lay on the couch next to me and I have pictures of him kind of stretched out or he laid on one of the dog beds and he always slept in the room with me and Saturday night.

I felt pushdowns. At the, where my feet are. Sorry. I just moved my, my setup is janky and I have a computer on top of a laundry basket.

[00:11:44] Amy: She's not at home. So I'm not at home at your sister's house right now. Yeah. And

[00:11:48] AP: I hear Mishka barking now, but I could feel down by my feet, which is where Briggs usually laid and he would put his head over my feet.

I felt like the footsteps of a dog turning around and laying down. Mind you, the door is closed. Now the dogs or the cats were in the room. And then

[00:12:04] Amy: could it be the dogs ?

[00:12:06] AP: The the dogs, Steve. And then last night I was laying on my side and I felt pressure on my shoulder. The shoulder that was up. Mm-Hmm. and Briggs used to do this thing where he would protect me, I would say.

And he would climb up around me and he'd put his, and he'd put his paw on my shoulder, and then he put his head over my neck. Oh yeah. And kind of like, kind of like spoon next to me, Uhhuh and do that. And I felt. the pressure on my shoulder and I felt the like feeling around my neck.

[00:12:38] Amy: And I

[00:12:39] AP: know, and I'm sure there are people who are like, Oh, it's muscle reflexes and that sort of stuff.

But it was too constant and too consistent.

[00:12:49] Amy: Not

[00:12:49] Megan: anybody who listens to this

[00:12:50] Amy: podcast. Probably not. Yeah.

[00:12:52] AP: So that was, that was, that's my sign that he was here with me.

[00:12:56] Amy: Yeah. Oh, what a good boy.

All right. So, overview. I'll read it this time since I picked this one. Kil by the Klan takes place in Key West Florida.

As Steve notes, it's a party town. We open with Amy stating Steve will conduct his investigation without knowing anything that I've encountered, making it clear. That she goes first. The client is Colette. She lives in a cute house with her partner, Glenn. She doesn't actually see or hear anything. She just has feelings and she gets cold and has feelings of dread.

Glenn actually sees apparitions and has had experiences his whole life. experiences his whole life. Amy sees a lot of dead people, but two stand out the most. There's a man who has been tortured and burned. Another man in white. The man who has been burned is not easy to describe, and so she decides to have the sketch of the other man in white done instead.

Steve does some digging and learns of a clash between a man who had a relationship with a woman of mixed race and the KKK did not like this, so they went after him and he. Then sought revenge and Steve connects these two men to the ones that Amy saw, but I'm really fuzzy on who's who. So I'm really interested to talk to the two of you about who those people are.

And maybe may help me. Make it make sense as Amy said last week. That's an

[00:14:28] Megan: AP thing. Not a

[00:14:31] Amy: Megan thing. Oh making something make sense. Yes I make

[00:14:35] Megan: it less make sense than when I got it

[00:14:37] Amy: out right make it more money, but that's okay. Yeah Alright, so they Steve also uncovers a potential voodoo curse and it is tied to a spirit that Amy sees I think, again, I have a question about that.

Amy says they have to be very, very careful, but as long as they keep the home protected and the energy clean, they'll be okay. And the tag and confused me as well. As you can tell, I was very confused at this episode. The tag confused me as well. We can go over that too. It says Colette stopped all attempts to communicate with the dead.

Yeah. I don't recall her talking about that. I didn't either. Okay. I didn't either.

[00:15:16] Megan: Well, that's really confused me. The only time she talked about communicating with the dead, as they state, is when she's helping people cross over in their, when they're

[00:15:26] Amy: not. No. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. And then it ends with Glenn no longer sees the four apparitions wandering through the house.

I also don't remember him saying four apparitions. I remember him saying there were a bunch of people, but he

[00:15:41] Megan: said, he said one main one. Yeah. The white, the

[00:15:44] Amy: man with the hat. Yeah. Anyways. Okay. So. There's your overview. Now we can. Now. Dig in. Discuss.

[00:15:54] AP: Discuss. Did anybody else like at the end of that though, that Glenn totally called Colette out?

Oh yeah. And I think that's what is being referred to is that she doesn't know what the fuck she's doing. Yeah. And he's telling her, you need to knock this stuff off. Mm hmm. You keep trying to do stuff, but you're not doing it right. Yeah. And I think, I think he's probably told her this before, but it felt like he was getting some justification in, I've told you, I've told you, you don't see what you're doing.

You don't hear what you're doing. I do.

[00:16:26] Amy: Yep. I got that impression too.

[00:16:27] AP: blame him the whole episode. He brought something back. He brought something

[00:16:31] Amy: back. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I was going to put in the notes, Glenn is a treasure hunter. Treasure

[00:16:39] AP: hunter. So he was working on a salvage, so a ship salvage, and she's like, I don't know, maybe he brought something back with him because, you know, I've been living here for a year and I don't, I don't.

I don't see anything or hear anything. I just get a, a sense of cold. And then I thought

[00:16:55] Amy: Steve

[00:16:55] Megan: was like, this isn't enough to go on. We

[00:16:58] Amy: gotta talk to him.

[00:16:58] AP: Well, he can say that. He said that he did. I can't, I can't go off of feelings alone.

[00:17:04] Amy: Yeah. Which I get. I wrote down exactly what he said because I was like, mm, Steve, come on.

He said, since I can't base an investigation on cold chills and creeping feelings, I'm gonna talk to Colette's partner Glenn. And I said, translated, I don't believe the hysterical woman, and I'm gonna go talk to the man. Cause that's what it sounded like to me. I

[00:17:22] Megan: didn't feel like that at all. That's not what I got.

No, I got, I mean, he's like, you know, he's first and foremost, he was a homicide detective. You can't convict somebody on feelings. Like Joe Kenda says, you can't, you can believe somebody did it till the cows come home, but you got to have evidence that they did it. So that's what I

[00:17:43] Amy: got from it. But I feel like Steve, I feel like Steve wouldn't believe evidence if, I don't think that someone saying I saw, if the roles had been reversed and she had been the one saying, I see people walking through the house and he talked to Glenn first, who said, I get a creepy feeling.

I think he would have believed Glenn and not had to go talk to her. He doesn't believe either one.

[00:18:04] AP: See, this is where I think this would. I think this is where something was scripted for him to say. Yeah. And it wasn't thought up in the spot, probably It was. Yep. Because it was too like babo Babo, like, because yeah, I would say I got more of the feeling from like, with Megan was like, ah, I can't just go off gut feeling on my own.

Mm-Hmm. and just go with that. Yeah. So, but yeah, I, I would've also struggled with Colette to be

[00:18:32] Amy: frank. Yeah. Well, I, I know, I think I felt like. The client should have been Glenn because he's the one that actually sees stuff and he's the one that actually seems to know what he's doing. And it also felt like she was getting called out.

So why would she be the one that called the dead files and brought them in? Probably

[00:18:56] Megan: because she thought she was going to be right and that they would side with her and they would tell Glenn, you need to stop bringing this shit

[00:19:02] Amy: home.

[00:19:02] AP: Well, I couldn't quite figure out if he actually lived there. Or if he was just there a lot.

[00:19:10] Amy: I think he's, I think he, I thought he lived

[00:19:12] Megan: there. I think that's his residence, but I think he's gone a lot for his

[00:19:16] Amy: salvaging. Yeah. Yeah. That's the way, that's the impression I got because

[00:19:19] AP: he, he gave the, well, I wasn't here for the first six months and you had feelings before I even got here that something was going on.

So, yeah.

[00:19:28] Amy: See that's

[00:19:28] Megan: when he said that stuff though. I was like, dude,

[00:19:31] Amy: back off. Like, I thought he was like being super aggressive towards her. I thought he was pretty threatening at the end. I got, I got a, like,

[00:19:40] AP: I got a bad vibe. I got, I'm fed up with you blaming me for everything when you're messing around with stuff you don't understand.

See, now

[00:19:51] Megan: that you point that out, I can see that. But when I first got it, I wrote down, I was like, I didn't like Glenn attacking Colette and I didn't like him lecturing her. Yeah.

[00:20:01] Amy: Because to me, that's what I

[00:20:03] AP: felt like. opposite side of that. I loved that he called her out because I think that she was And now

[00:20:09] Megan: I get that.

Yes. Right. Now like what I, you know, I didn't see the stuff that you saw. So, but now that you say that, I can see it.

[00:20:16] AP: I just got the, from his perspective, he's been dealing with some of this stuff for all of his life. He's talked, he talked about that. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I think that he probably. All speculation.

I'm wondering if he was like, fine, call somebody in. So there was kind of like, they'll tell you I'm right.

[00:20:38] Megan: I think they both thought that was going to happen. Yeah. I think he's the only one who got vindicated. And she was like, you're going to see that they're going to tell you get away that it was, it was you bringing stuff in and he's like, no, you're going to see that they're

[00:20:50] Amy: telling you it was you.

[00:20:52] AP: One of the things that cued me in on this is that Amy said. She's not as sensitive, but he's got abilities and that's where, when she started going off on, and I don't understand everything about Reiki, but you do have to understand energies and that sort of stuff that, and he was like, you're doing these things that you don't fully

[00:21:11] Amy: understand.

And that's dangerous. That was really interesting to me because I didn't know that Reiki could be something that would let other stuff in. I'm sure if it's done incorrectly.

[00:21:25] AP: Most, most. At least the, where I've come across, where I've seen Reiki practitioners or Reiki masters have been mediums.

[00:21:35] Amy: Hmm. It makes sense.

And again, not an expert. Well, when we, so maybe it

[00:21:40] Megan: was like, what was, maybe it was like Brittany, who's doing kitchen magic. Oh boy. And she's doing kitchen Reiki.

[00:21:46] Amy: That, Brittany, she gets brought up in every, cause

[00:21:50] AP: they also didn't really show Amy having any kind of reaction to that sort of stuff, where I think if that had been.

This past year or two that Amy would have been like, what the fuck are you doing?

[00:22:01] Amy: Yeah. Oh, I was expecting her to get upset, but I think she was holding it together. When we saw Jenny, she told me that I should look into Reiki because I am a natural healer and that's what I should be doing. And I did actually buy a Reiki class online.

To take and I, I watched like one of the videos and then I forgot about it. But I, I just came across it the other day and I'm like, I gotta get back to that. And then I saw this episode and I'm like, shit, maybe I shouldn't do that. I don't

[00:22:26] AP: want to, I know it has a lot to do with energies and it could, I mean, I don't, not an expert.

I need a shirt that says, not an expert. We

[00:22:34] Amy: should all get shirts

[00:22:35] Megan: that say that. Not me,

[00:22:37] Amy: I'm an expert in literally everything. I'm not an expert, I just act like one on my podcast. Wait. And

[00:22:41] AP: then yeah, I, Stop. I just think that all tied together and I think there, that felt like, A reason why they kept Amy saying, I don't think she's sensitive.

Like she's like, she doesn't have any, yeah, she, she's, she doesn't have any of that aspect of it. I think

[00:23:00] Amy: she wishes she did if she's helping people move on. Yeah. That scares me. Hopefully it's helping and not doing something else. You know, I hope, I hope that it's working because it's children she was helping.

I know. Yeah. Anyway I just, before we get off the, the the topic at the reveal, the last thing that Glenn said is what I, what I took as threatening when he said, you have to live and let live and let sleeping dogs lie. Yeah. And I took that as quit fucking telling me this is my fault. Keep your nose out of what I do is the way I heard it.

I don't know if that's what he meant, but that's what I heard.

[00:23:44] Megan: Now that AP said. What she thinks I can see it that way, but he was pretty aggressive But then again if he's been saying it for a long time, then he could

[00:23:55] AP: see it as aggressive I thought as I saw it as because he was if you read his body language his body language.

He was sitting back Mm hmm. He wasn't forward He was very like he was but he was back here where it's like I've been telling you this I've been telling you to this now just please stop. Mm hmm. That's What I got was more of a frustration than an aggression, but that's how I observed it and from own life situations.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did. I caught that at the end there too. But yeah, I just got that he was more like, please stop. Maybe she's also been like, tell me more about, you know, this one that was haunting you and this one that was attacking you and this one. And he's like, He's been living with for how, since he was 20, 25,

[00:24:49] Megan: I thought he said when there was a,

[00:24:52] AP: he was in his twenties when the one threatened him and said, You know, like, pay attention big, big boy, I'll be back.

But

[00:25:01] Megan: didn't he talk about one when he was at his grandpa's and he was going out to the barn? Oh, that's the same

[00:25:06] Amy: one? Yeah, it followed him for five years. Five years they had a fight. And he never really talks about that. He just said it was a fight for five years.

[00:25:13] Megan: I said they didn't address the spirit that he was talking about at all.

Like he just told Amy and she was like, Oh, okay. And then they moved on, which again, I'm sure

[00:25:22] Amy: they talked about it.

[00:25:23] AP: They didn't talk to a lot of things that I was like, that's important. I'm curious if, if for him, it wasn't that, that point that you felt that was more of an aggressive act was. Just let that one lay.

Like she just said, he's not coming back. He's not going to come back for me. Let's leave it there. I don't want to talk about it anymore. Like that was a traumatic event for him in his life and she's wanting him to relive

[00:25:51] Amy: it

[00:25:51] Megan: a lot. Oh, I see what you're saying. Okay.

[00:25:54] Amy: I see. I didn't think he was talking about that.

was getting. Okay. That could be. Sure.

[00:26:00] AP: That's my drawing of a conclusion of when somebody, it was almost a defensive frustration to me of. I've told you I don't want to talk about this

[00:26:10] Amy: anymore. Yeah, that could be. I didn't, I didn't think of it that way.

[00:26:15] Megan: I didn't either. Okay.

[00:26:18] Amy: So I want to just quick, I want to go back to the very beginning when I, when I started watching this, I was like, I feel like I'm watching the first 48.

Do you guys, did you guys ever watch that show? The first 48. Not

[00:26:30] Megan: as much as you did. I think I maybe watched one episode. Oh, yeah.

[00:26:34] Amy: Then not as much as me. No, you watched like 89 episodes. Every single episode. Yeah, I got obsessed with it when I discovered it. So, it is very handheld, shaky cam. We're in the car with Steve, shaking along.

And, and then they show like the moon, you know, through the car window and all that. It looked exactly like it. And I'm really tempted to look up and see if it's the same director or the same like cinematographer or whatever as, as that show, because it. Really felt like the first 48, also it was on video, not film.

You could tell that like kind of a more crisp, real looking stuff is usually film as a video, as opposed to film. The later episodes are on film. So they're a little bit more clear.

[00:27:19] AP: I did find something. Oh, I was going to say, I found something in my, like Glenn and Collette at the end. Cause I, I wrote this down cause it was after.

I said, I don't know if Glenn and Colette make it after this because she seems to blame him and he says, that's where you're wrong. I wasn't even here when things started happening. You play around with healing that may have opened the door. And then that goes into, she does hands on healing, Reiki, helps people transition.

Amy tells her she needs to be very careful and protect her home. And then I just, my I thought was, sounds like she doesn't actually know what she's doing and doesn't have the, and doesn't necessarily have the sensitive abilities that could also be making it worse. Yeah. So I think that's where I keyed in on things.

So anyway, sorry.

[00:28:05] Amy: Yeah.

[00:28:05] Megan: One thing I wanted to touch on and maybe I just missed it, but it seemed like when they were talking about the woman of mixed race, I don't know, yeah, Angela Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Angela, what do you know about her? Not much, Steve. They kept saying she did voodoo and I want to be like, and, and maybe I, I missed it, but it's like, did she actually do that?

Or was she just a woman of color who they thought cursed all these men? Like that to me, like, stop saying that because I personally don't know if she did, but then you have Amy who said she was like raising people from the dead.

[00:28:45] Amy: Yeah.

[00:28:45] AP: She said she heard conversation about wanting to raise someone from the dead, but Amy, when they said that she practiced voodoo, Amy had one of her like, what faces, but then they never went into it.

And so that's where it made me

[00:28:59] Megan: really kept hammering that home. And I'm like, I don't

[00:29:02] Amy: think she did. I think

[00:29:04] Megan: once she wasn't from the right. I don't think, and I, I don't know anything about it, so I'm not trying to, if I'm wrong, please let me know, but I feel like that's more in, like, Louisiana, New Orleans type of area.

[00:29:19] Amy: I

[00:29:20] AP: think that's just because of where some settled, but I think Voodoo and, and It's

[00:29:24] Amy: Haitian. Oh, and Haiti. Yeah, Haitian. Yep, so I think, okay, so yeah, I suppose it could be there. She

[00:29:29] AP: could have been Haitian. But like,

[00:29:31] Megan: I don't believe she was. I believe it was, she was a woman of, of color who was born in the fucking 1920s or was alive in the 1920s with a fucking KKK and they were trying to think of any reason to blame things on her.

[00:29:51] AP: Exactly. They tried to connect.

[00:29:53] Amy: Four deaths

[00:29:54] Megan: to her, you know, what,

[00:29:55] AP: maybe not, they were not like out of the norm or what their jobs were.

[00:29:59] Megan: No. And maybe it was karma because they murdered

[00:30:03] Amy: people. Right. Right. Maybe it was just the universe getting back to them.

[00:30:08] Megan: And they were like, the sheriff died a horrible death.

Death. And I'm like, okay, but he kind of deserved it.

[00:30:13] AP: He was working on his boat and his boat fell off the blocks or whatever is what I gathered because he was crushed under his boat and had to be cut out. And I was like, how were you crushed under your

[00:30:22] Amy: boat? Yeah, that while it was in the water. I'm sure.

Right. But like,

[00:30:25] AP: I, I agree. I was thinking about that as I'm watching them. Like, this sounds like a story that was blown out of proportion in that timeframe and. You know, really, it was something to hold on to. It was something to grasp, grasp to and be like, Oh my God, now he died. Now he died.

[00:30:47] Amy: I will say that all of that was happening at the time.

This isn't something that came out later because I read the newspaper articles about them. And they, they said that way back then they said that they believed that she had done voodoo curses on them. Well,

[00:31:01] AP: because you have one, one. I, okay, all deaths are terrible, but you know, the, the horrible deaths, they all died.

Horrible deaths. Okay. One drowned on a fishing trip. That's happens all the time. Not uncommon. One went missing in a hurricane. Again.

[00:31:19] Amy: Also happens

[00:31:19] AP: all the time. Not uncommon. One was working on a bridge using dynamite and was blown up on the bridge. And blow up, yeah. Hazard of the job. And then the sheriff died by being crushed by his boat and having to be cut out.

I said, okay, we're going to need more on all of this. These all sounds like hazards of the job or coincidence, but because they were tied to the murder of Manuel, who is. But

[00:31:44] Amy: was it

[00:31:45] Megan: murder? Because he was involved with somebody who was

[00:31:48] Amy: not his race. But didn't, that's the other thing

[00:31:50] AP: too.

[00:31:51] Megan: That was sarcasm everybody, just.

[00:31:53] Amy: But

[00:31:54] Megan: his

[00:31:54] AP: name was Manuel Cabeza. Yeah,

[00:31:57] Amy: he was, he was Spanish. I looked him up. Yeah, so shouldn't

[00:32:02] AP: the KKK not like him either?

[00:32:04] Amy: I don't think they made that distinction as much back then. And the article that they showed that Steve was holding, I paused and read it. I don't understand racism. And it said that the reason that KKK was upset with him is because he was having a relationship with a woman that they favored.

Well,

[00:32:26] AP: she was, she was good looking.

[00:32:28] Megan: And she was a sex worker. So they probably were going to her. They probably were. And then she stopped because she started dating him and they were like, Oh, I can't get my dick wet anymore.

[00:32:38] Amy: Right.

[00:32:39] AP: And also, I'm sorry, but going back to the whole voodoo thing and they're like, Oh, she's chicken bones and blood and blah, blah, blah.

I'm like, so she was cooking like, I mean, not blood, but who doesn't use nice, make a nice stock with some

[00:32:56] Amy: chicken bones. Yeah. Although, you know, okay. So here's another thing about Amy. Another question I had at one point when she is she sees a woman with a look of anguish on her face, she feels strongly about what they're doing, but she couldn't stop it.

She's trying to make something real that was not real. No idea what that means. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Then she says she feels like she doesn't have a voice and she can't stop it. I assume that she's talking about the ting anding of her boyfriend. Yep. Mm-Hmm. . And then they show Amy, her eyes are closed and she whispers what are plotting.

Mm-Hmm. . Oh, I miss that. Which makes me think, oh, I remember that. That she did put a curse on them. Whether or not she really was voodoo rather or not. The curse is really what killed them. I think she did. Right. But then the Amy, at one point, when she's talking about this woman, she goes. This woman, the dark haired one, and I'm like, this is the only woman you've talked about the whole time.

The only woman, Amy. So is there another woman? That they've shown. Right, exactly. Is there another woman involved? There's always another woman. That Amy has talked about that was cut out of the show, and now she's distinguishing that person from, or Angela from that person. Well,

[00:34:09] AP: I also was curious about the fact that we get nothing else about Angela in life.

And usually when Amy connects with some of that, she. And that's where it was like, okay, they, they couldn't, she was trying to stop what was happening. Was that about what happened to Manuel or is it about what happened to her? Yeah. Because we don't know what ended up happening. We don't know. Right. So that's, that was a thought that was going through my mind of all of that.

And yeah, I don't know if she truly practiced voodoo or was just like, I know that there's something. You know, my grandma told me something when I was little that if I did something like this, I could, you know, I think when they were talking about raise the dead, she wanted to bring Manuel back to life.

It wasn't trying to bring a whole bunch of things. Right. Maybe it

[00:34:58] Megan: was to the point where like she cursed them, but it was just like a woman saying, I hope you all die. Yeah. Cause they just killed her boyfriend. Right.

[00:35:07] AP: So in the, like the Salem witch trials and things in a lot of. Anytime they burned a witch alive, they usually suffocated them first or strangled them so that they couldn't curse, put a curse on them while they were

[00:35:19] Amy: burning.

I will say that's at least Good that they weren't Yeah. Dying alive. They were burning. Yeah. Oh no, they

[00:35:26] AP: were still alive. They were just unconscious.

[00:35:27] Megan: Well, that's good. Oh. Oh, yeah. I mean, at least there's, they weren't feeling it,

[00:35:31] Amy: but

[00:35:31] AP: that was, that was the main thing was so that they, 'cause women can cur, can always put curses out.

So I just, I think there's a whole bunch of things that

[00:35:40] Amy: get

[00:35:40] Megan: wrapped up in, well, we're the worst. I mean, obviously,

[00:35:44] Amy: I wanna also mention that the. Tarring and feathering happened on December 23rd and his death, Manuel's death was on December 25th. Oh. Merry Christmas to him. Oh my God. Yeah. I found a newspaper article.

Speaking of an agonizing death. I know. Oh, I know. And, and that's not even all of it. I will tell you what I found in the paper. The white, a white mob of 15 men burst into the jail and beat him with blackjacks. He was then dragged out of the jail. What's a blackjack? It's a, like a stick. Oh like a, like a small baton or a bat kind of thing.

Nightstick. That's okay. And then dragged out of the jail, attached to a car, and dragged through the streets of Key West to the East Martello Tower where he was hanged from a palm tree. The mob then riddled his body with bullets.

[00:36:34] AP: Yep. And they said the reason they did that is so that they could, they couldn't implicate anyone else because they all partook.

Mm hmm. Mm hmm.

[00:36:42] Amy: Mm hmm. Yeah. Yep. I hate everyone. And I want to mention, did anybody think that the grave looked weird when they showed Manuel's grave? No. It looked like it was photoshopped. It looked like it was a grave with a, with a, with a picture drawn out and pasted over the top. And so I did a Google search and I found his grave and it does not look like that.

So I don't know what the hell they're playing at there, but I found his grave and I put the pictures in the drive, but I'll put them on the, I'll put them in the right here. I'll put them like tic tac. I'll, I'll put those in too. So though, I may want to make sure that we talk about what, who these, who the two guys are.

Why, why can I not get them straight into

[00:37:34] AP: my head? So the one is Manuel. The other is Decker. Right. Which one's which? William Decker is the one in the white linen. In the photo. He was the one that they sketched. He was, he was in the white linen suit. Okay. And he had, it wasn't a, it wasn't, so the hat, Amy described the hat improperly to the sketch artist or she had a different idea.

She thought straw hat with like the angle down. Yeah. This was more of like a Panama style hat. Yeah. Which is a, a Panama style is a straw almost bowler type with the ribbon around it. And that's, that's what you see kind of with the curl off. In the picture.

[00:38:05] Amy: Yeah. In that

[00:38:06] Megan: picture. The actual picture, not the

[00:38:08] AP: sketch.

Yep, and that's the picture that you know they drew. So that's William Decker. And Decker is the one who led the charge against Manuel Cabeza. And Manuel was the burned man and Amy kept saying, I don't know how he's burned. He must have been somewhere else that it was burned. Well, it was his skin

[00:38:26] Megan: melted from the tar.

The tar. And she said she couldn't accurately describe him.

[00:38:31] Amy: Right. So that's why they, yeah. And so that's what I thought, but then there was this is why I got confused. Okay. I got to find it.

[00:38:45] AP: Both men are angry and they're both stuck in their states of denial. She

[00:38:49] Amy: said, yeah, both of them are like, I'm right. Right. Right. So like Glenn and Colette, Hey it was when. When Amy was saying, this man. This angry white man he, he doesn't really care about the consequences. He's going to do what he wants to do.

And I took that as she's talking about Manuel going to going and killing Decker. So that's why I got confused about which guy was which. Yeah. Manuel killed

[00:39:19] Megan: somebody. Who did Manuel kill? He killed

[00:39:20] Amy: Decker.

[00:39:22] AP: Oh, okay. He killed Decker, but Decker led the charge against him. And so that's where, yeah, they, they both had their anger and they both had their own things.

But Decker was probably trying to screw Angela much earlier on than Manuel and got pissed off about it. He was the head of the clan. Yeah. And got pissed off that, you know, his little treasure is now somebody else's and how dare that happen. So that's more so. Because

[00:39:49] Amy: he only

[00:39:50] Megan: viewed her as a toy, something

[00:39:53] Amy: he could use.

[00:39:54] AP: Something he could take. Yep. And then they, yeah, I think Amy said something about how they both senses, yeah, there's one group, one is control of the gathering, some kind of gang, the head guy is dressed the same, they're all dressed the same, they're all of the same race. There's the burn man and the man in white both are angry, they can't talk.

She talks about someone is yelling, going berserk, which then I put a little note about berserkers in the Vikings.

[00:40:24] Amy: Do you want to say what that is? Cause not everybody else is going to read your

[00:40:27] AP: notes. No. So berserkers kind of that term to go like almost insane to the point you don't feel any pain or anything.

So it's believed that the Viking berserkers would, before they would go into battle would. Have some sort of mushroom or whatever that would cause them to basically not feel anything. So they were terrifying to go against in battle because you've got someone who's got an open gaping wound and they are still going strong.

They'll die.

[00:40:59] Megan: What are you going to do, bleed on me?

[00:41:02] AP: They'll, they'll literally, they will die as long as. But they won't even really sense that they're going because everything is so off. So basically adrenaline just gets so high and everything like that. So they were in a high state going into that. So berserk, then berserker, all of those terms came about that describe those

[00:41:25] Megan: Viking warriors.

I thought it was funny. She's like, I'm seeing these guys

[00:41:27] Amy: in weird hats. Oh, I know. And then they show, they like superimpose pictures of the KKK as if we don't know what kind of fucking hats they were. I

[00:41:36] AP: think my favorite, though, was in the very beginning of the episode when they show Amy opening and she's standing there and it's like, she's already open at this point, but she's like got her eyes closed and she's standing there quietly, just waiting in the middle of the room.

It was like, Oh, this, this is definitely for, you could tell it's the first season there.

[00:41:58] Amy: Yep. There was something else early on that I was like, Oh yeah, this is,

[00:42:05] Megan: this

is young. Her hair. I hated her hair on this episode.

It's not the cutest cut. It's not. A shag cut does not look good on a

young girl. On most people, it's hard to pull it off.

It was

[00:42:19] Amy: very hard to pull it off. There's a woman on TikTok that I follow that I love and she has a shag haircut and she is the cutest fucking thing on the planet. Amy is. I'm sorry that hair is.

[00:42:27] Megan: Yeah. Amy's adorable. Not with that hair girl.

[00:42:31] Amy: Right, right. She's had so many, so many cute haircuts though. So many.

Yeah. Like,

[00:42:36] Megan: I think this is the only one I don't like. Every other one

[00:42:39] AP: is adorable. There's one other one I'm just like, eh. Not my favorite, but you do

[00:42:43] Amy: you.

[00:42:44] Megan: Right. And that's just my opinion. Amy, you could shave your head off. It's your hair. You do what you want.

[00:42:49] Amy: Don't please don't shave your head off. Please leave your head on.

You can take the hair though. Okay. What else do we need to go over? Oh, the sketch. When they did the sketch, they were sitting outside. It was bright and sunny. And I loved how she goes, yeah, that's him. Yeah. Yeah. That's him. They showed a lot more. Yes. That's what I saw.

[00:43:09] AP: Yeah. They showed a lot more of like what they were doing.

[00:43:12] Amy: Yeah. And they showed more of the sketch. So we had at least an idea of what it was going to look like when it came out. And

[00:43:17] Megan: also this is just me, but did you see the fucking rock on that sketch artist's hand? Damn, it's amazing. She could hold her hand up.

[00:43:26] Amy: I saw Amy's ring when they zoomed in on that at the reveal.

It was really pretty. It was huge. It was two rings, you know, but it was really pretty. It was,

[00:43:33] Megan: the sketch artist Rock was like, Find it, find it, find

[00:43:37] Amy: it. Maybe there's good money in sketch art.

[00:43:41] AP: I saw the Steve didn't make a comment on that picture. I did

[00:43:45] Megan: say, I wrote that down too. I said we're not, we don't have him leading in, like, I don't know what you guys think of this, you know, the way

[00:43:51] Amy: he usually does.

[00:43:52] AP: You guys are going to like this. And then he was like, I do have a photo of William Decker, what do you think?

[00:43:57] Amy: And they were identical except for the tip of the brim. They were identical. It was

[00:44:04] Megan: like she had looked at that photo

[00:44:07] Amy: and drawn him. Yeah. So you know what I did? I took notes of everything that Amy said to the sketch artist, what he looked like, his eyebrows, his face, his eyes, his nose, his mouth.

And I put it into an AI. That, the same AI that I always use, AI program to, to draw them for me. And they do, I, I went, I did two different ones and both of them looked a little like what you would expect, except that they were supposed to have thin eyebrows with a slight arch. And both of them were like eyebrows like this, otherwise, and you can't go back in and say great, except fix the eyebrows.

You can't. Right. But I'll, I'll show you the pictures later and I'll put them, I'll put them right here.

Hi, are you raising your hand or are you just holding your hand for a picture? Feel

[00:44:57] Megan: free to put something there. Okay. I don't know. Maybe a butterfly. I don't know.

[00:45:01] Amy: Picture of Tyler Haynes. I just want

[00:45:02] Megan: to be included in the picture, picture game.

[00:45:06] Amy: Okay. That reminds me, Tyler Haynes, another Tyler Haynes is following me on on.

I can't tell you how many Tyler Haynes have followed me. I know. I have like 18 of

[00:45:15] Megan: them. I know. Not the real one? No. The one in your ornament? It's

[00:45:19] Amy: okay. Yeah. Megan made me a Christmas tree ornament that has Tyler Haynes in it. And then another one of me going, I can hang them next to each other. They're supposed to be looking at each other.

Right. Cute. It's real cute. It's very

[00:45:34] AP: cute. Oh, I do have one other thought just at the very beginning of the episode. Did you guys notice that they scanned to a black cat sitting in the street? I did.

[00:45:44] Amy: I was like, what is this? No, I didn't see a kitty. It had nothing to do with this. I rolled my eyes. Oh, that's funny.

I put,

[00:45:50] AP: okay, drama.

[00:45:52] Megan: It had nothing

[00:45:53] Amy: to do with that episode at all. There was a lot of that stuff. Yeah. There was a lot of that kind of stuff. Those like the mist and all that kind of stuff. Yeah. Whatever. I have to build a sage the shit candle. I do think it's very potent. Oh, is it? I haven't lit mine yet. I did

[00:46:08] AP: put down in here with Colette when felt since she moved in about a year ago that someone else is there not seeing or hearing things, just cold spots.

Feeling someone is here said low standards then. Yeah.

[00:46:19] Amy: Well, and okay. Standards

[00:46:21] AP: back

[00:46:21] Amy: then for. Here's one more weird thing. The reveal. When when Glenn is giving her the what for and he says, let me find it because I wrote it down. Exactly. He's saying he wasn't even there when things started happening.

And he says, like, that thing that greeted you at the door. We didn't hear anything about that. We didn't hear anything about that. We should have cut that out if they weren't going to tell us what the fuck he's talking about. I know. And then that's when he says, you play around with healing and all that stuff and it might be where you open the door.

But I don't think he meant the door. I think he meant, those are two different doors. Yes. Not the physical

[00:46:57] AP: door, but the metaphorical door. Yeah.

[00:46:59] Amy: But I think when he said that thing. Greeting you at the door. I think that meant I think he meant that the physical physical. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. All right, fun episode.

Yeah, that was a lot. There was a lot to do a lot to cover in this one. It wasn't terribly scary. I did not think I probably watch this in the dark. Probably could have, but but I liked it. It was a good one. Yeah, it was good. And, oh, I highly recommend you have the end Megan, right? I do have the end.

Megan's going to tell us what we're doing next week.

[00:47:32] Megan: We will be discussing my choice for spring break series episode, season 13, episode four called the bone collector. Oh, I

[00:47:41] Amy: remember this one. I don't think I do.

[00:47:43] Megan: And I chose it cause I really liked the movie, the bone collector Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie.

[00:47:50] Amy: Yep. Not the same. I know

[00:47:52] Megan: it's not, but I, it, I love the

[00:47:54] Amy: movie, so like, and the book is really good too. I like both. Scared of this episode.

[00:47:59] Megan: I probably will. Great. So I'll watch it in the daylight then, is what you're saying? Yeah. You might wanna do that. Okay. So that's why I chose it. That was literally it.

It had not, and I made sure that it was in a, a tropical, like a spring breaky area, but that was Mm-Hmm. . There's no like in depth to it. I'm like, oh, mm-Hmm. That was a good movie. I'll do that one. And now you know how

[00:48:19] Amy: my brain works.

[00:48:20] AP: I literally chose the two I chose because I'm like. Well, that sounds like an interesting place and it was like the theater, which was fine.

And then the next one is because it's the only one in the state that we'll get to in a couple of weeks.

[00:48:33] Amy: Nice.

But that's what we're doing next week. Yeah. And we will let you guys know when we're ready to release History Goes Bump. In fact, they might be a little bit more tight schedule between when recording and releasing than we are.

So it might actually, it might already be out by the time you guys hear this. Either way, we're excited. All right. All right. Thanks everybody. Bye. See ya.
