Anticipation hung in the air inside Paris's Lada Fence Arena on Thursday night as a clock counted down to Taylor Swift's first European date. This from Variety. Yes, the record breaking tour had been running for over a year and was very well documented. Swift even released a concert film of it in October that is now streaming on Disney Plus. But tonight was different. Just under a month ago, during a break from the tour, Swift had released her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, and this show would mark its live debut. No one could be sure of how it would fit into her set. Would it be an entirely new era or just included in the surprise songs portion? Would she kick off the show with it or put it at the end? Well. 1:33 made to accommodate the new songs and new outfits. Throughout. Swift debuted a new orange pink bodysuit for the Lover Era, complete with a matching blazer for the Man. However, one of her prized track numbers, the Archer, was removed from the setlist. Next, in the Fearless Era, a new black and gold fringed dress made an appearance, but the real first surprise of the night came when the Red Era followed instead of Evermore. During Red, Swift also debuted a new T shirt which read this is not Taylor's version. As the show progressed, Swift revealed that she would be combining the Folklore and Evermore sets from now on. We have now reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter, Swift said. She then proceeded to flip flop between the two albums, beginning with Cardigan and Betty, but then moving to a moss covered piano for Champagne Problems. The song was greeted with several minutes of cheers, causing Swift to get emotional and mouth I Love you to the crowd.

2:36 As unfamiliar visuals came across the screen, it became clear that it was now time for the Tortured Poet's Department. Assorted pieces of furniture, a chair, a lamp, a door floated from the sky, alongside pieces of paper, which then evolved into a desert road where the fixtures crashed onto the floor. Swift then appeared in a white corset dress with cursive writing adorning its skirt and a chunky Vivian Westwood choker. The set's graphics were mainly in black and white and included a UFO that looked like it was about to abduct Swift and a filter that wided out her eyes, giving her a demonic look. All of the stylings for the Tortured Poet's Department were vaguely old Hollywood, perhaps a reference to Clara Beaux, but Swift really hammered that home with a minute long skit in the middle of the set, in which two of her dancers fling her around like a doll while old timey music plays. During the skit, Swift's dress is removed, revealing nothing but a two piece black set, and she is dressed in a gold jacket and matching heels. Leaving the venue that night, one couldn't help but feel that they had just witnessed an entirely new show, proving Swift's expertise in reinvention. She could have just tacked the tortured poet's department onto the beginning or the end, but that would have been too easy.

Speaking of the new TTPD chapter during her second show in Paris on Friday, Swift revealed that she started planning the surprise eight or nine months ago ahead of the album's release in April. So Paris is the very first city to ever see the new TTPD chapter of the Era's tour, she told fans, as the sold out crowd cheered, I have to tell you it has been so rewarding playing it for you, because we started planning this surprise for you about eight or nine months ago, and then when we got two months off of the Eras tour, we really didn't take any time off at all. We just went directly back into rehearsal. More in a moment.

4:49 Speaking of new outfits, let's dive into the stunning high end looks Swift showcased during the Paris show during the first show of its European leg on stage in a new Versace leotard and matching Lubatan boots. The designer outfit is one of multiple high end looks Swift has added to her updated show, which now includes songs from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. Swift has been wearing custom Versace bodysuits during the Lover portion of her shows since the start of the Era's tour, but her newest version is one of her brightest, covered in orange crystals and large magenta sequins. She wore the form fitting piece with knee high Christian Lubutan boots and a gold Versace necklace. And let's not forget about the glittering blazer she added for her performance of The Man a new version of the Versace design, featuring a double breasted jacket covered in orange sparkles. For the Fearless Era, Swift stepped on stage in a black body suit covered in silver, gold and white fringe that made the piece look like a dress.

It's unclear who designed the newest suit, but fashion house Roberto Cavalli has created Swift's other fringe pieces for the Fearless set of the Era's tour. Alberta Ferretti has designed all of Swift's folklore dresses throughout the Era's tour, including the flowing white piece she's seen wearing in her twenty twenty three concert film. The new version, she wore in France on Thursday appears to be the same silhouette as the latter garment, but in a new yellow shade. It features a tiered skirt, flowing long sleeves, and delicate swirls of sparkles and microbeads. For the nineteen eighty nine Era, Swift swapped her usual fringed pieces for a bedazzled pink crop top a blue ombre skirt and ankle boots in both colors. All designed by Roberto Cavali. The outfit seemingly referenced similar ones Swift war on her nineteen eighty nine tour. In twenty fifteen, the fashion house is also responsible for this look, with creative director Fausto Puglisi adding a leopard head embellishment in the middle of its neckline. Cavali was widely known as the Leopard King before he died in April. To match the moody aesthetic of her new album and reference her Fortnight music video, Swift donned a custom Vivian Westwood gown. It featured a sleeveless structured bodice, a high low skirt, and lyrics from the Tortured Poets Department printed across it. Swift wore the dress with white ankle boots

Swift wore the daring piece with knee high boots, fishnet tights, and her now signature garter in a matching blue fabric. Speaking of the tour's success, ticket sale revenues are rejected to hit around one point four billion dollars, which would make the eras the most profitable tour ever, ahead of Sir Elton John's lengthy Farewell Tour, which spanned several years and brought in around nine hundred and thirty nine million dollars. And it's not just fans who are loving Swift's work. Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill recently praised Swift for inspiring a new generation of musicians. He told The Sun newspaper, Dixie started wearing Kings of Leon shirts around the house, but Taylor has made her see music differently. She's impressed how she can walk in with a guitar and write a song. A new generation are discovering what it's like to organically make music because of Taylor Swift.
