Enroll Now: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Drops Trailer and Premiere Date at NYCC
Paramount+ just dropped some Academy knowledge at New York Comic Con
The second official trailer for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has arrived! The all-new series will premiere January 15 with two episodes, followed by weekly drops every Thursday through the season finale on March 12.
The trailer gave us plenty of story bits to chew on as we get ready to head back to school in January. Tatiana Maslany’s still-unnamed character appears to be the mother of Caleb Mir (played by Sandro Rosta), who’s seemingly kidnapped by Paul Giamatti’s big bad, Nus Braka. Years later, Captain Ake (Holly Hunter) finds Caleb, and it looks like she was there when his mother vanished. She recruits him to join Starfleet Academy, setting the stage for a search that’s as personal as it is dangerous.
We also get our first look at Mary Wiseman’s return as Tilly, plus plenty of new faces, mystery, and adventure. Check it out below!
And in classic Trek fashion, there’s an unexpected twist: Stephen Colbert is joining the galaxy as the Digital Dean of Students! Colbert’s voice will guide cadets through their daily announcements and emergencies, ensuring campus chaos is always just one alert away.

At NYCC, the Starfleet Academy segment of the Star Trek Universe panel brought the new class together on stage: Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks (who continues to show the amount of love they have for this franchise), George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, and Paul Giamatti, alongside co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. Hosted by Josh Horowitz (Happy Sad Confused), the panel dove into the show’s mix of youthful energy, high-stakes drama, and that classic Trek optimism.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy follows a fresh generation of cadets chasing their dreams among the stars. Between budding friendships, fierce rivalries, and the looming threat of a mysterious new enemy, these young officers-in-training will learn that being Starfleet isn’t just about following orders: it’s about living up to the ideals that built the Federation.
Finally, Paramount+ also dropped eight new images from the series to feast your eyes on and...study. I really want to make all the school puns I can when this comes out.
