0:00 In our ordinary external awareness, we experience ourselves as an individuality, and we look at our various actions and reactions, responses and directed focuses of our attention as one unified whole. In reality, however, upon closer examination, we can determine that we in fact have different parts of our being, different elements which in many cases have differing needs and desires and modes of responding to situations and events. We have a physical being, a vital being encompassing both the nervous vital energy and the expression of our life power centres and our emotional reactions, and a mental being which collects our ideas, opinions and focused attention. These diverse parts of our being are many times in conflict with one another and thus we struggle from time to time to find a solution.
1:05 We may try to exercise willpower to hold back a physical or vital need or demand. We may sublimate energies that arise in the vital nature and channel them into mental pursuits. We also may find that the vital nature in particular has the ability to overpower the mind and the will, thus bending the mental power to carry out whatever the vital desire happens to be with ready made justifications and excuses to make it seem like it is the right and logical thing to do. When we are able to shift the standpoint to that of the psychic being, we find that the psychic being is able to view and organize all these diverse elements of the being around the central purpose and focus of the soul. This becomes the organizing principle around which the mental, vital, and physical energies can collect and align themselves to support the soul's intention. The mother observes.
