Unless you have been hiding under a musical rock it's not secret that Lecrae is EV-ER-Y-WHERE! His music has been popping up in Disney movies, he's made it onto mainstream talk shows...Lecrae's ministry is on fire! Sunday, June 28, 2015, he made history as the first rapper to win the Best Gospel Artist Award category.
The Best Gospel Artist category carried heavy hitters, Lecrae Erica Campbell, Fred Hammond, Dietrick Haddon, Michelle Williams, and Mali Music.
Lecrae has had a pretty successful year at award shows so far. He took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song in February, Rap/Hip-Hop CD of the Year at the Stellar Awards and Top Christian Album at the Billboard Music Awards.
This is not the end for this artist who has successfully added a Grammy, Stellar, and Billboard Music Awards to his shelf. His first book, Unashamed, will be released in 2016. In the book, Lecrae opens up about his life struggles with drugs, alcohol, depression and suicide attempts.
"As an artist my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book," said Lecrae in a press release announcing the book. "I want to be honest about where I've come from and what I've learned along the way. I want to influence culture, to help catalyze and inspire, and help other people find understanding. If they find some inspiration and some clarity for their own lives, as they follow my journey, then I will have succeeded."
