Daily Space Report - December 12, 2025 - Rising Sunspots and Strong Aurora Potential

0:03 Calorogus Shark Media. You're listening to sleep from space. Here is your quiet space report, A short, gentle update on the Sun, the auroras, and the sky above. An asteroid flyby is happening twenty twenty five. XF one, about the size of a house, will pass Earth today at a safe distance of zero point eight times the distance to the Moon. It poses no threat to Earth, but it's a reminder of the dynamic neighborhood we live in. And here's a look ahead at the sky. The Geminid meteor shower peaks this month, often the year's strongest display, with up to one hundred and twenty meteors per hour possible under dark, clear skies. Two planets steal the show tonight. Jupiter, the king of planets, shines brilliantly in the east. Saturn hangs lower in the southwest, its rings visible even through a small telescope. Both set by late evening. First the space weather solar activity is picking up. Active regions on the Sun's surface are growing more complex, increasing the odds of M class flares. Astronomers are watching these areas closely.

1:18 This solar activity brings a heightened chance for auroras Tonight If you live in the Northern States, step outside after sunset and look north. Even a minor geomagnetic storm can push the Aurora oval farther south than usual. That's today's space report. As you rest tonight, remember that Earth moves quietly through space, wrapped in its protective magnetic field, while rockets launch and distant worlds wait to be explored. Sleep well.
