Speaker AAnd recent studies have shown that one of the ingredients, abacavir, is causing heart problems in long term patients.
Speaker ASo we decided to switch me off of it.
Speaker ASo I started on Biktarvy.
Speaker AAnd whenever you change HIV medicines, it's hard of the system.
Speaker AIt set me back a good 10 days, which is better than what Trimect did.
Speaker ATrimec laid me up for like a month, but.
Speaker ASo it wasn't bad, But I lost 10 days and it was stressful and awful and bad.
Speaker ABut I was supposed to be doing an episode with Michael Howey and Christopher Grundland.
Speaker ABut Christopher has been waiting to get heart surgery for a really long time.

Speaker AThe opening came and he took it and he's recuperating now.

Speaker BEven though this time, you know, I've seen it before going in, knowing what's going to happen, I still picked up a lot of really cool things.

Speaker AI remember watch it with my parents.
Speaker AAnd I distinctly remember my dad kept saying, Jesus, this is like Of Mice and Men got a whole Mice and Men thing.
Speaker AHe's like the guy from Mice and Men and he's absolutely 100% right.
Speaker AThis is absolutely cribbing on Of Mice and Men in the best way possible.
Speaker AAnd actually one scene at the end is verbatim from Mice and Men.

Speaker AYeah, that's very cool.
Speaker AFor those who out there who might not have seen Darkness, Gerko, what's the basic plot?
Speaker BMovie takes place in a little California, kind of a desert town.
Speaker BAnd Bubba is a kind hearted, mentally challenged man who's very good friends with a young girl.
Speaker BThere's an accident, Bubba is blamed and a posse of people kill Bubba.
Speaker BThis is at the very beginning of the movie.
Speaker BAnd then soon after, one by one, they seem to have horrible accidents knocking them off one by one.
Speaker AIt's a very simple plot and that's what I love about it.
Speaker BYeah, but it's never boring.
Speaker BIt's always moving forward.
Speaker AI'm going to say it's actually, it's slow, but that's okay.
Speaker AIt's methodical.
Speaker AIt knows what it's doing and it's taking its time.
Speaker BRight that's good.
Speaker ATo, to be fair, when it aired on tv, two hours of this was too long.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ABut now that we can watch it without commercials, it's the perfect length.
Speaker AIt just, it is one of the things I really like about it.
Speaker AThere is no fat on this steak at all.
Speaker AThere is nothing that doesn't need to be there.
Speaker BNo, no.
Speaker AThere is no side plots.
Speaker AThere's no romantic, you know, trysts going on.
Speaker AWe don't even get backstories for anybody.
Speaker AWe're just plopped into the story and everything's taken at face value.

Speaker BBut yeah, everything is just bare bones.
Speaker BBut it doesn't feel that way.
Speaker BIt feels like a very lived in movie.

Speaker ABecause that's what the story is.

Speaker AIt's going by like comic book logic.
Speaker AAnd I don't mean like superhero, I mean like creep show.

Speaker BTales from the Crypt.
Speaker AWe've got a 10, we've got a five page story morality tale about supernatural justice.
Speaker AAnd it goes exactly how you think it's going to go.
Speaker AAnd that's okay because that's how it goes in the comic books.
Speaker BWhat I like about this is you.
Speaker BIt could also be a mystery or thriller.
Speaker BYou don't know how if it's a supernatural.
Speaker BCause until the very last shot, which I loved about it because it plays a coy, which I liked.
Speaker ASee, I was going to say differently.
Speaker AI'm going to say differently.
Speaker AOne of the mistakes that I think that this movie could have made is what a lot of what most of these made for TV movies would have done.
Speaker AWould have made it a whodunit.
Speaker AWho's in the scarecrow suit?
Speaker AWho's knocking off these people?
Speaker ABut this movie, the movie puts our villains, the people who killed Bubba, like on a hook and watches them squirm.
Speaker BOh, yeah, definitely.
Speaker ALike, like the Girl in Texas Chainsaw.
Speaker AIt's like, I'm gonna hang all three of you up and I'm kind of come back for you one by one by one and just watch you squirm.
Speaker AAnd they start panicking, they start wondering who's doing it.
Speaker ABut the movie keeps kind of turning to us going, shh, no, no, no.
Speaker ALet them wriggle.
Speaker AIt's exactly what you think it is.
Speaker ACalm down.
Speaker AWatch.
Speaker AWatch them suffer.
Speaker AThis is the fun part.
Speaker ANo, no, no, no.
Speaker AYou're right.
Speaker AWhat you think is happening is exactly what's happening.

Speaker BExactly.
Speaker AThis is the fun part, but they.
Speaker BNever show who's doing the killing.
Speaker BSo it's always left up in the air as to, is it a scarecrow, is it the mother, is it a little girl?
Speaker BI mean, they, they show but don't really.
Speaker BThey don't say, you're supposed to think one thing or the other.
Speaker BIt's just like I said, people are dying, they don't show the killer.
Speaker BSo it's like, well, who is it?
Speaker BBut they never really draw attention to anyone or never have any of that, like zoom in on someone to make you think about like the old woman or the little girl a little bit.
Speaker ARight, right.
Speaker AWho isn't that costume?
Speaker ABut I realized this time, going through, this last time, going through up until the very, very end, you don't see anybody in that scarecrow costume.
Speaker AYou never see anything.
Speaker ALike there's no hint of anybody following.
Speaker AThey're just people panicking.
Speaker AThey're hearing things and they're seeing things, but you don't see it.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker AAnd I would swear like, I would swear like.
Speaker AAnd I know other people I hear talking about, oh my God, the scarecrow's so scared.
Speaker ASee where he's chasing the guy through the asylum like this.
Speaker AYou don't see him, you don't see him.
Speaker ASo whatever, your brain is actually writing the movie for you.
Speaker AAnd I think that's really cool.
Speaker BYeah, yeah.
Speaker BPeople remember scenes that never really happened because.
Speaker BYeah, because you don't see this scarecrow until the very end of the movie.
Speaker AAnd this cast is great.

Speaker BHe was the killer Santa Claus in the Tales of the Crypto.

Speaker BAnd he was Dr.

Speaker AHe's just a fantastic and darkman and dark man.
Speaker BYou're right.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BHe's a villain, this one.
Speaker BOnly in it for 10 minutes, but he's just such a sweet, kind man.
Speaker ALeaves an impression for the 10 minutes that he's in.
Speaker AAnd yes, it's 1981, so you're getting an able bodied person playing a mentally challenged person.
Speaker ASo there's some cringe factor there.
Speaker ABut honestly, he's doing the most earnest job somebody can do.
Speaker AYour heart bleeds for this character.
Speaker ASo please.
Speaker BExactly.
Speaker BHe's very likable, very compassionate and most of the people treat him the same way with the Exception of some other characters.
Speaker BYou can tell.
Speaker BHe seems to be well liked if not disliked in the community.
Speaker AOr he's just considered harmless.

Speaker BHe's harmless.

Speaker ASo I wanted to slow production there anyway, and now I just realized I gotta just slow things down completely.

Speaker AIt's something new, and it's something that I really am excited about.
