Mary Jo (Patricia Arquette) is a young woman trapped working on a farm run by a cruel couple. Her only comfort becomes a scarecrow she believes is real and in love with her. However, the situation takes a dark turn, proving that three's a crowd—but a four is downright deadly.

Albert (Bobcat Goldthwait) is a young, aspiring ventriloquist who tracks down his childhood idol, the legendary but reclusive Billy Goldman (Don Rickles). Desperate for advice to fix his terrible act, Albert manages to book a meeting with his hero, but as he gets closer to the old master, he uncovers a grotesque and horrifying secret about the true nature of Billy's former stage partner.
