Introduction to Trauma

In this episode I will share an overview of What Trauma Is, the types of traumas, and trauma symptoms.

Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape or natural disaster. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea.

Some types of Traumas are:

· Bullying

· Community Violence

· Complex Trauma

· Disasters

· Early Childhood Trauma

· Intimate Partner Violence

· Medical Trauma

· Physical Abuse

· Sexual Abuse

· Human Trafficking

· Miscarriages

· Death of a Child

· Car Accident

· Intergenerational Trauma


Symptoms of psychological trauma

1. Shock, denial, or disbelief.

2. Confusion, difficulty concentrating.

3. Anger, irritability, mood swings.

4. Anxiety and fear.

5. Guilt, shame, self-blame.

6. Withdrawing from others.

7. Feeling sad or hopeless.

8. Feeling disconnected or numb.
