On this episode of the Steel City Nation podcast Mark Maradei speaks with Brian Fleury. Fleury is in his second season as the 49ers defensive quality control coach. He joined San Francisco after spending the previous three years with the Miami Dolphins as the team's football research analyst (2016) and director of football research (2017-18).
In his roles with the Dolphins, Fleury worked closely with defensive coordinator Matt Burke to help prepare for upcoming opponents and follow NFL trends. He assisted the team's defensive backs in 2018 after assisting the defensive line in 2017 and linebackers in 2016. Brian also coached for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns for a total of three seasons. In 2009 Brian joined his alma mater Towson University’s coaching staff and helped to lead them to several Colonial Athletic Association Championships as special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.
We will discuss with Brian his career path starting with his playing days at Towson University and leading up to his current role with the San Francisco 49ers. Brain will share with us how his journey continues to build as a professional football coach and what his ultimate goal is in terms of coaching. He will describe the variety of coaching duties he has held on various teams and how it affects his growth as he worked under various leadership styles and develops his own coaching tool belt. Brian will share with us his experience from last year as the 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl and exactly what the expectations are going into the 2020 season. Will also talk about how Covid 19 has impacted the NFL in many different ways.
Brian will join us for our Decade Definers by sharing his five best games (including the Super Bowl obviously) that he has been a part of during his career.
