Life Lessons from former NFL Lineman Leon Searcy
On this episode of the Steel City Nation podcast I’ll interview Leon Searcy. Searcy is a former NFL offensive lineman turned football coach for Florida International University who currently works as a radio host in Jacksonville, Florida for 1010XL. Searcy was a number 1 pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992, 11th overall and is most notably the first draft pick in the post Chuck Noll era. He then went on to play predominantly for the Jacksonville Jaguars, with one year stops in Baltimore and Miami in his 11-year career spanning from 1992 to 2002. He was an all pro and made the pro bowl in 1999. He is the CEO of Real Men Block, 3 time National Champion at The University of Miami, Florida where he was an First team All American and a U Hall of Famer. Leon has most recently written an autobiography entitled “ 4th Down and Damn” told by Mike Brodsky.
We will discuss with Leon his early days of being part of the University of Miami Florida football team and he made himself into a number one draft pick. He will share with us how he originally thought he was going to be a Dallas Cowboy but ended up a Pittsburgh Steeler. He will give us an inside peek at how young, successful athletes can get caught up in spending and living a carefree lifestyle. Will talk about his opportunities after his career ended and how it has helped to shape the man he has become today.
