Jumping for Joy with Olympic Triple Jumper Thea LaFond
This week's guest on the Original Sports Podcast with Mark Maradei is Thea Lafond. Thea LaFond is a triple jumper from Domineca. She competed at the 2016 SUmmer Olympics in the women’s triple jump; her result of 12.82 meters in the qualifying round did not qualify her for the final. She was also selected to represent Domencia at 2018 Commonwealth Games.
During the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she created history by becoming the first Dominican athlete to win a medal for Domenica at the Commonwealth Games after securing a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump.
She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
We will talk with Thea about her career as a track star and how it all began. She will share her experiences as an olympic athlete and how she stays at the top of her game to continue competing. For our “We Just Gotta Know” segment Thea will share with us the most memorable events she has competed in outside of the Olympics.
