Inside the Igloo with The Athletic's Jesse Marshall
Jesse Marshall is the Pittsburgh Penguins beat reporter for The Athletic in Pittsburgh. Previously, Jesse provided Penguins coverage for Faceoff-Factor and The Pensblog with a focus on analytics, the draft and video-based analysis.
We are going to talk all Pittsburgh Penguins hockey with Jesse and pick his brain about the current state of the team. WE will start with the former General Manager Jim Rutherford walking away from the job without any warning just 9 games into the season. Discuss how the Penguins will/are adjusting with the loss of so many defensemen so early in the season and what appears to be the emergence of a future number 1 defender in Pierre-Olivier Joseph. A long discussion of what ails the powerplay and how it can be fixed. We will look at the cap situation and how it is going to unfold for the Penguins as their key players are aging and their contracts are expiring (Malkin and Letang both after next season freeing up close to 17 million both up in 2022) with somewhere around 50 mil on the books for 2022-23 season.
We will have Jesse share with us in our Decade Definers segment the 4 or 5 best games he has covered in Penguins history.
