Amazon is planning a new "Rush Pickup" service that would allow shoppers to collect orders from both the online marketplace and items stocked in Amazon-owned stores, all within an hour.

In this video, Chris Walton gives his unvarnished advice to Amazon, stating that the company should not proceed with this service.

Chris Walton explains his reasoning:

Misalignment with the Amazon App: He does not use the Amazon app to coordinate a pickup order.

Delivery is Better: Amazon should lean into things like faster at-home delivery first, where speed is their strength. The speaker finds the idea of a 30-minute home delivery to be more compelling than rush pickup.

Operational Constraints: The service requires using locations like Whole Foods, which already suffer from long lines for returns, constrained and small parking lots, and are generally disasters.

Competitive Disadvantage: Walmart will always make pickup easier than Amazon because of its physical locations and the design of its operations, allowing Walmart to win this battle at scale.

Chris Walton concludes that the rush pickup service is a "road to nowhere".
