WEBVTT
00:00:07.360 --> 00:00:22.320
Whether you're a businessman or an employer or an employee, pleasing your customer is a sure way to gain their trust and building a sustainable, long-lasting relationship, which leads to better rewards.
00:00:22.399 --> 00:00:26.719
And when I say rewards, I mean a lot more money for the effort you put in.
00:00:26.960 --> 00:00:35.359
In this session, we'll be discussing three simple questions you can ask your customers that can help you understand their needs, meet their needs, and make sure they leave you happy.
00:00:35.520 --> 00:00:38.719
Stay tuned for the next part as you dive into this.
00:00:48.960 --> 00:00:59.039
Welcome to the Unleash Podcast of Femia Kiami, the podcast where we explore how to unleash your potential in the workplace, your hustle, and life in general with practical real-life steps.
00:00:59.280 --> 00:01:03.200
Sometimes I used to use my past, and trust me, I have got some stories for you.
00:01:03.280 --> 00:01:05.599
And sometimes I'll just say stuff I've learned.
00:01:05.760 --> 00:01:11.519
And other times we get people who know a lot more than I do, we get them into the studio and we break it all down.
00:01:11.760 --> 00:01:13.519
By now, you know what I usually say.
00:01:13.680 --> 00:01:16.879
I have become a believer that Don is better than perfect.
00:01:17.120 --> 00:01:20.640
So, with that being said, let's get right into it.
00:01:20.799 --> 00:01:28.319
And by the way, don't forget to like the podcast, share with your friends, family, and anybody else you want to get unleashed.
00:01:28.560 --> 00:01:30.159
Let's get into it.
00:01:34.640 --> 00:01:35.920
Who is my customer?
00:01:36.079 --> 00:01:37.599
Who is your customer?
00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:45.200
If you're in business, your customer is the person you sell your product or your service to, the person you plan your marketing around.
00:01:45.359 --> 00:01:53.599
If you're an employee or you work for someone, your employee your customer is anyone who you're serving at any given point in time.
00:01:53.840 --> 00:01:56.079
Your manager is your customer.
00:01:56.400 --> 00:02:00.640
The person in the other department that you meet regularly is your customer.
00:02:00.959 --> 00:02:05.200
Anybody at any time who you are delivering your service to is your customer.
00:02:05.359 --> 00:02:09.360
So it doesn't matter who you are, you always have a customer.
00:02:09.759 --> 00:02:17.280
Pleasing your customer is a sure way to gain trust and building a sustainable relationship, which leads to the rewards which we all want.
00:02:17.520 --> 00:02:18.879
This is why we go to work.
00:02:19.039 --> 00:02:24.960
We go to work so we can have a satisfied life, but more importantly, we can pay those bills.
00:02:25.039 --> 00:02:30.319
Now it's important to pay those bills with a smile on your face, but critically, we want to pay those bills.
00:02:30.479 --> 00:02:41.199
In this session, we'll be discussing three simple questions to help you ensure you understand the needs of your customer, you meet the needs of your customer, and when they leave, they leave with a smile.
00:02:41.840 --> 00:02:44.159
Okay, let's get into it.
00:02:44.560 --> 00:02:49.360
Now we go for me, it all came down to this.
00:02:49.599 --> 00:02:57.199
I looked at the calendar and it's February 21, and I'm thinking, oh no, the quarter has almost come to the end.
00:02:57.360 --> 00:03:02.479
When I say quarter, I mean it's almost March, and before you know it, it's the end of March, it's Easter.
00:03:02.719 --> 00:03:11.280
We get round to the middle of the year, it's summer, or it's um it's June, July, and another year is done, and you haven't achieved everything you want to achieve.
00:03:11.439 --> 00:03:19.840
So if you're someone like me, there's probably a chance that you're beginning to panic and freak out that all these goals and plans you had in place, you've not achieved them.
00:03:20.159 --> 00:03:34.479
Now, I know you have lots of personal goals, but one of the goals you certainly have, and I'm sure, is you want to please your customer, you want to achieve your revenue, you want to make sales, you want to get the bonus, you want to get a promotion.
00:03:34.639 --> 00:03:44.639
Whoever you are, you want to do better, and one of the keys to doing that is making your customer happy, and your customer will typically come back to you and say, I like it or I don't like it.
00:03:44.800 --> 00:03:52.800
So, in this session, I want to give you three simple questions that can totally transform your relationship with your customer.
00:03:53.840 --> 00:04:03.439
These three questions hit the heart of what it takes to build a relationship, and if you use these questions the way I prescribe them, it can make all the difference.
00:04:03.599 --> 00:04:07.520
It's literally like turning the light on in your room.
00:04:07.759 --> 00:04:13.199
You will start to hear things from your customer, you will start to get responses from your customer.
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:17.920
If you have a relationship with your customer that you're struggling to break down, this is it.
00:04:18.160 --> 00:04:27.040
If you have a relationship with your customer, which you think is beginning to grind down, and you guys are beginning to be at each other's necks, this is it.
00:04:27.199 --> 00:04:36.560
If you have a relationship with your customer which is doing great, this will simply just remind you of some of the things you're doing well and help you do it again.
00:04:36.800 --> 00:04:46.879
Now, Dale Carnegie has this book called How to Make Friends and Influence, How to Win Friends and Influence People, and I love this book, and it's made a big difference in my life.
00:04:46.959 --> 00:04:50.879
And I I encourage you, wherever you are, do try and read this book.
00:04:51.040 --> 00:04:59.199
And some of that has informed the way I think about customer service, but some of it is also just just being nice to people.
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:03.600
So that leads me to my first question, really.
00:05:04.079 --> 00:05:19.120
And when you meet up with your customer, a lot of times, one of the things we all do is we are so focused on business, we are so focused on getting down to it and showing how good we are at our jobs that sometimes we lose the humane side of the whole thing.
00:05:20.160 --> 00:05:34.879
And when it comes down to it, we are all people people trying to interact, people trying to do business, and when you think about it, they have fears, you have fears, they have families, you have families, they have challenges, you have challenges.
00:05:35.040 --> 00:05:39.920
They fall sick, you fall sick, they breathe the same air, you breathe the same air.
00:05:40.079 --> 00:05:45.279
So it's easy sometimes to just want to get down to business and forget some of these things.
00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:50.399
So that leads me to my very first question: get your pen, get ready for this.
00:05:50.720 --> 00:05:56.639
The very simple question you can ask that you can always ask your customer is, How are you?
00:05:57.680 --> 00:06:00.000
And how are you doesn't always have to be that.
00:06:00.079 --> 00:06:03.680
You can mix it up, you can just show some spice to change the variation.
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:06.959
So you could say something like, How was your weekend?
00:06:07.199 --> 00:06:12.480
and they'll tell you, Oh, my weekend, I did this, I did that, and you just listen in.
00:06:12.800 --> 00:06:26.480
What I want you to do is make sure you pay attention because if you don't pay attention, it looks like you're just asking just to tick a box, you're asking just to for a perfunctory reason, just so you can get it out of the way.
00:06:26.560 --> 00:06:34.399
But you need to ask how their weekend was, and most of the time, they'll say something you can jump on and use it to lead on to the next thing.
00:06:35.199 --> 00:06:37.120
Sometimes you just need to be observant.
00:06:37.199 --> 00:06:38.560
Sometimes I have it a lot.
00:06:38.720 --> 00:06:44.399
I have meet customers or colleagues I work with who would call in sick or be sick the day before.
00:06:44.560 --> 00:06:47.519
The next time I see them, I'll ask, How are you feeling now?
00:06:47.680 --> 00:06:52.720
and they'll say, Oh, I'm feeling better, and they'll start talking about themselves again.
00:06:52.959 --> 00:06:53.920
You listen.
00:06:54.079 --> 00:06:56.000
Sometimes, how are your kids?
00:06:56.240 --> 00:06:57.279
How is your partner?
00:06:57.439 --> 00:07:01.040
You need to start to listen to understand their lives.
00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:07.360
Here's the key: you only it's when you win their hearts that you they give you their hand.
00:07:07.600 --> 00:07:12.319
You win their hearts, they give you their hand, and that's the same thing with customers.
00:07:12.639 --> 00:07:21.839
You get to win their hearts by asking about their lives, asking about personal things just to make sure and let them understand that you really do care about them.
00:07:23.120 --> 00:07:27.199
When you care, they start to open up and share more things to you.
00:07:27.360 --> 00:07:31.120
Now, the trick is to this is learning more about them.
00:07:31.439 --> 00:07:43.519
But what I will say to you as well is that make sure you listen attentively and you remember and you look them in the eyes, or you actually acknowledge so when they give you answers, you play it back to them.
00:07:43.680 --> 00:07:55.360
Now, I know for some of us this feels like this doesn't help me make my sale, this doesn't help me get my requirements signed up, this doesn't help me get my per the person I'm working with in the office to give me exactly what I need.
00:07:55.600 --> 00:08:08.959
This doesn't make them buy my product, but you are laying the foundation, you are making them understand I value you as a person, I love working with you, I appreciate working with you, I understand what you're going through, and you know what?
00:08:09.040 --> 00:08:13.040
Sometimes don't even worry about being vulnerable.
00:08:13.199 --> 00:08:15.279
Sometimes it's okay to share yourself.
00:08:15.519 --> 00:08:18.639
Oh, I've been through that, I struggle with that.
00:08:18.879 --> 00:08:20.319
I'll give you an example.
00:08:20.560 --> 00:08:34.159
I was working with there was someone I was working with, and she happened to have an issue at work where she was dealing with a manager who was really giving her problems, and she didn't know how to get through it.
00:08:34.320 --> 00:08:39.840
And I was honest with her, and I said, I've worked somewhere like that with someone like this, and this is what I did.
00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:42.320
It was really stressful, I was really getting stressed.
00:08:42.399 --> 00:08:46.159
I had I had to go home at night thinking about my work, which is not good.
00:08:46.399 --> 00:08:50.320
And she said, Oh, I feel the same way, that's how I feel.
00:08:50.480 --> 00:08:57.519
And immediately we built a connection, there was a shared understanding, something we could both hold on to that built a relationship.
00:08:57.679 --> 00:09:01.039
So I encourage you, ask how you are, how was your weekend?
00:09:01.200 --> 00:09:03.200
How are you getting how are you getting on?
00:09:03.360 --> 00:09:04.320
How's your family?
00:09:04.480 --> 00:09:06.799
Just a question that can lead to something else.
00:09:06.960 --> 00:09:08.000
So that's my first one.
00:09:08.159 --> 00:09:10.559
Make sure you remember how are you?
00:09:11.840 --> 00:09:12.960
Question number two.
00:09:13.120 --> 00:09:16.159
We're beginning to get into the meat of it now.
00:09:16.559 --> 00:09:18.480
How may I help you?
00:09:18.879 --> 00:09:23.039
The first thing you need to notice as with the first question is the use of the word how.
00:09:23.919 --> 00:09:26.159
It's an open-ended question.
00:09:26.480 --> 00:09:28.399
We don't like code closed questions.
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:31.440
When you ask closed questions, you get close answers.
00:09:31.759 --> 00:09:33.039
What are you doing?
00:09:33.360 --> 00:09:34.159
Nothing.
00:09:34.559 --> 00:09:37.360
When you ask what they're doing, they'll tell you nothing.
00:09:37.519 --> 00:09:42.159
So that's the same thing I want for you to ask an open question.
00:09:42.399 --> 00:09:43.279
How are you?
00:09:43.360 --> 00:09:44.799
Um, how may I help you?
00:09:45.039 --> 00:09:50.240
It's an open question which allows them to answer freely and can help you dig deeper.
00:09:50.480 --> 00:10:03.120
But more importantly, it's a question that says, I'm here to help, I'm open for business, I'm listening to you, but also it makes them understand: look, you're a nice guy, and your hands are open.
00:10:03.440 --> 00:10:04.559
How may I help you?
00:10:04.720 --> 00:10:17.039
Because when you say how may I help you, they'll start to answer with so many different formats, they'll come from so many different angles, they'll say anything, and your job is now to start to ask the right questions.
00:10:17.200 --> 00:10:23.120
But one thing you should try to do is make sure you ask for urgency, importance, and when.
00:10:23.440 --> 00:10:25.360
So, how urgent is it?
00:10:25.759 --> 00:10:28.960
How important is it, and when do you want it?
00:10:29.360 --> 00:10:33.679
And the last question: how are you feeling?
00:10:34.240 --> 00:10:45.440
Now, how are you feeling is a good one because what you're asking is how are you feeling about the plans we're making, how you're feeling about the products I'm offering you, how are you feeling about the services?
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:51.679
This allows them to give you an insight into how they're feeling about whatever it is you're doing.
00:10:51.759 --> 00:11:02.559
Because when you say how are you feeling, they can tell you, I'm not feeling great, I don't feel confident, I feel nervous, I feel a bit worried, I'm not sure you guys can give me what I'm asking for.
00:11:02.720 --> 00:11:17.039
So it gives you the value, valuable information to take a heat check of your relationship with that person, it gives you the valuable information to start to understand their fears, their challenges, and any concerns they have about your product or services.
00:11:17.279 --> 00:11:20.399
My one tip to you on this one though is not to challenge them.
00:11:20.639 --> 00:11:25.600
When you ask how are you feeling, be ready to take it on the chest.
00:11:25.840 --> 00:11:34.320
So they will download everything and they will tell you the great things you're doing, but more than likely, they'll tell you some of the things you are doing they do not like.
00:11:34.559 --> 00:11:44.639
Please, please, please do not say but but and don't challenge them, don't try to challenge them and justify them or prove them wrong.
00:11:44.879 --> 00:11:47.759
Your job is to listen, okay?
00:11:48.080 --> 00:11:55.039
Take it on board with an intention to resolve any concerns and also to move them from being unhappy to being delighted.
00:11:55.200 --> 00:11:56.720
I'll give you a good example.
00:11:56.879 --> 00:12:02.879
I recently remember I was on a conference call with a lot of my stakeholders, people I work with, and I asked that question.
00:12:03.039 --> 00:12:07.840
Now I've been under the impression that things are going well, but then I asked, How are you feeling?
00:12:08.000 --> 00:12:14.559
and it turns out there was anger, frustration, and there was a feeling which needed to be resolved.
00:12:14.639 --> 00:12:19.440
And I had to spend the rest of that call just quietly eating humble pie.
00:12:20.000 --> 00:12:24.480
But it was important because I had a long list, a shopping list of things I had to resolve.
00:12:24.559 --> 00:12:30.240
And as I ticked it off, I said, I just wanted to let you know the complaint you made about this, I resolved it.
00:12:30.320 --> 00:12:35.440
And as I ticked it off, they said we're really happy, things have improved, and it's because I listened.
00:12:35.600 --> 00:12:45.679
Okay, so if you're noticing by now, you notice that this is all about listening, it's all about understanding what your customer has to say and listening.
00:12:45.919 --> 00:12:50.399
Okay, so here's my big takeaway: don't panic.
00:12:50.559 --> 00:12:56.080
I know the first quarter of the year is coming to an end, but it's not about how you start, it's about how you finish.
00:12:56.240 --> 00:13:02.159
And taking these questions, these feedback, these tips I've given you are gonna make you finish strong and with power.
00:13:02.399 --> 00:13:11.759
Number two, providing world-class and thoughtful customer service builds loyalty and sustains relationships, which leads to increased money in your pocket.
00:13:12.240 --> 00:13:16.080
And number three, ask these three questions How are you?
00:13:16.320 --> 00:13:17.440
How may I help you?
00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:18.960
And how are you feeling?
00:13:19.279 --> 00:13:31.919
Okay, these are the three questions that can make all the difference in your customer service, and they give you an insight into your customer and they empower you with the information necessary so you can start to win their hearts.
00:13:32.080 --> 00:13:34.639
And when you win their hearts, what would I say?
00:13:34.879 --> 00:13:36.480
They give you their hand.
00:13:36.960 --> 00:13:50.159
Listen, guys, success is important, but we have to enjoy the journey, and your ability to increase your revenue is based on your ability to build sustainable relationships with customers who are delighted.
00:13:50.480 --> 00:13:56.960
The key word is delighted, so you have to make sure they're delighted because when they're delighted, you're relevant.
00:13:57.120 --> 00:13:59.679
When you're relevant, you get paid.
00:13:59.919 --> 00:14:05.759
I hope you've enjoyed this episode of You Unleashed, where we share ideas on how to rock it in the workplace and life.
00:14:05.919 --> 00:14:12.320
Don't forget to share and like our podcast with your friends and all your families and anyone else who you think needs to get unleashed.
00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:17.039

00:14:17.200 --> 00:14:20.720
And like I said, done is better than perfect.
00:14:20.960 --> 00:14:23.360
So this episode is in the books.
00:14:23.519 --> 00:14:25.279
Get unleashed and stay unleashed.
00:14:25.519 --> 00:14:26.320
Have a great week.
00:00:07.360 --> 00:00:22.320
00:00:22.399 --> 00:00:26.719
00:00:26.960 --> 00:00:35.359
00:00:35.520 --> 00:00:38.719
00:00:48.960 --> 00:00:59.039
