04 Hi, you dont here? Sure? Fore wow forra you your This is the pipe Main here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio, and I'm here. With Ventum from the other rud Usher from the other. I wonder how many people listening are saying to themselves, especially in the States, because they could kind of be like this the other what but that's what's great about your band name? Like it does cause people to start a conversation. Do you find that.

48 Strange that you say that because the first time somebody said that, But that's good. We got to think about this and come up with an answer that we can just answer every time somebody says that. Kind of like when we were ellying each other. Right, and okay, I'm big about merch. I love your shirt, okay very much. It's so freaking cool. And I have to tell people. I'm going to say right off the bat, if they don't buy your merch, they can't listen to my show. So let's start there and tell them how they buy your merch, because otherwise you don't get to the next gig. I don't think people really realize that. Well here at fucking obviously our shirts are at the merchandise stalls, so that's probably the best bet. But otherwise, of course we saw them online in our store. Shipping to the States is a problem right now.

37 I imagine. So we get a lot of requests and everybody's like, way too expensive due to the texts and customs and all kinds of stuff. It used to be a much easier so but yeah, it's the other. You'll find it on our website. The other. There's links everywhere. Nice. So what was the road you took to get the VAK in and out? Mean the road you drove on? Well, this is our fourth time that we're playing Bucking. That's cool. This is my first time, but I'm not playing. First time was in twenty ten and that was That's a story that I've been telling a lot in the last couple of days when I was drunk, because yeah, I just sent an email back then to Holgahutna, the founder, one of the two founders, and I said, hey, we're this and now we just signed to steam Hammer SPV.

30 And I told him who we are and he just answers like, okay, yeah, you're wrong, and this is the fee you're getting. I'm like, that fee doesn't even cover our gas costs. And he said take it or leave it, and I answered, take take, take right. But the good thing is once you're. Part of the family here, of the fucking family, and it is an awesome community. You know, you always get invited back, and we can always come as guests too, and we love to hang out every year and party here. See I love that, and of course party on at Vadkan, party on totally. It's uh then's first time. Actually, oh yeah, I'm a virgin too. Yeah. So I joined the band two years ago, two kind of two years ago. And one of the things, or one of the reasons, uh why I did, is I wanted to play Vackan. This has been on my list.

23 You know, I've been living as a musician. I'm not saying the word professional because that's but yeah, for for years and that's it's always been on my my wish list to play vaking And so yeah, it's it's a great pleasure to be here. It's awesome already and it hasn't even started yet. So so you basically placed an ad that said, do you want to play Vakan join our band? Yeah, that's that's how when well, we have common friends and he he introduced us. But I'm a little afraid when he says that that's that's on his bucket list. I hope he doesn't quit the band after today.

04 Now you have to come back every year and play or else he's not staying with the band. Right, Yeah, Well, we have other good things coming up, so I want to. Hear about those other good things. Tell us about those others. We play our annual Halloween show, of course, you know where. We're a scary band and Halloween is our biggest highlight of the year. But next year we're gonna hopefully do a tour with. An ex musician of the Misfits, and we do like a double headliner tour in Europe. Stuff like that. We have a new album coming out, and. Is it a secret? Is it a secret? Who it is? Like if I mentioned the initials, could you say yes or no? Please? Please do?

45 But uh, it's not Glenn Danzig. I didn't think so, and I didn't want it to be. We did, however, open forensic ones and a lot of signs for the Misfits, the Jerry only Misfits. So yeah, so is it MG no, Okay? I interviewed him actually recently, but I'll tell you interesting. So I'm a Jersey boy, so I'm from where they're from. Yeah, okay, but where I lived in West Palm Beach, Florida before they went back to the original Misfits and they were just Jerry's band. They used to play this block party in downtown West Palm Beach every Halloween outside and every single time it was beautiful weather until they struck the first chord and it would start.

37 Raining every time. Every time. Every time, it was like, yeah, it must be them awesome, but yeah, like man, they are like one of the legends. And I was so excited when they did the original Misfits and got that back together. You know, it's funny. I've interviewed Doyle and when you meet him in real life, it's not who you imagine. He's a very calm, low key, low voice person, and like I kept having to get him to speak up during the interview, but then he gets up on stage and he's like this monster. Yeah it's unbelievable, you know. Yeah it is.

17 Uh. And I've seen the Misfits in the nineties a few times. Love that lineup before Michael Grace went totally crazy. Yeah, but we're of course we're very influenced by the Misfits and Samain and down Zig, So yeah. Yet to me, and not offense to him because you like, you know, I talked to him and he was a really nice guy. But to me, the Misfits were damn sick. Sure, like wish we would see the original lineup here, but they don't come over. I think I think their fee is so high. Probably you can only justify that by playing stadiums in the States. While up everybody knows the Misfits, but they will probably not fill a stadium over here.

06 Yeah, that makes sense because like they play festivals over. There and Midfest. I wish I would have gone there. I was there. Wow, I was there. Oh my god, it was I was in their pit, like right up, I was like right in front Doyle in the pit, okay, and it was. It was. It was pretty freaking cool. Another fucking moment was Vendanzig played here the last time and Doyle joined him on stage and nice a few Misfits song that was like the the start up probably yeah, and that we saw that here and that was an incredible moment. Saw that here in that Telpfest and I had tears in my eyes when Doyle came up and they played the classics.

47 That was really great. So here we'll ask you both the question your favorite Misfits song. Different for both of us. I guess I will always answer with skults. That's a great one. Dig Up her Bones probably that's a. Great one too. So fine, you said skulls. So I used to date this hardcore punk singer. She was a female, but she used to sing skulls and they're great. You'll never guess what my favorite one is. This will show you that I'm a true Misfits fan. And okay, I'll start in the doorway. No, you gotta guess Hella. No, maybe TV Casualty.

29 Oh, that's an awesome song. But nobody would ever really guess that, you know, because people would think I die, my darling, dig up your bones, skulls, all that, but that one, like, I could play that over and over again. Well, that first album and sthetic age is my favorite, even though my favorite song isn't on it, but it's my favorite it is, so yeah, totally, So that's a great pick. There you go. So what was it in life that made you side? This is what you wanted to do, and you both have different answers to this. The band was founded actually as a fun side project of a death grindcore band I was in at the time, playing guitar, and everything was so serious, and we said, let's do a Misfits cover band, just for fun, and that that just took off, and then we said, okay, we'll write. We'll try it writing one of our original song and we just slipped it into the set right next to all the Misfits covers and either people didn't notice that and people thought it was a Misfit song, and we said, this works kind of well, and then we started just doing our own stuff and yeah, now we hear and releasing our tenth album in October.

47 Amazing, what day on October? I'm asking for a reason because I'm on to find out it's on my birthday. It's the thirtieth, the day before Halloween. There you go. It's it's a compilation. It's three new original songs, a few cover songs by Brett Legend, the Damned German Band and stuff, and some love tracks. Yeah. We toured with them in two thousand and seven and I seized every opportunity to talk to Dave Vanian and just suck up all the info that he could give me about singing, and he told me tales about his time when he was about to join the Misfits. Well he was asked to join the Misfits. He did not, obviously, but that was it was. It was great.

30 Wow. Yeah, And like I said, you know, I joined the band two years ago. I got introduced by a friend. I grew up as a guitar player with like you're wearing a Megadeth shirt right now. It's one of my favorite bands, and Iron Maiden and stuff like that. But I also grew up. On punk and skate punk goth as well, and this band is the perfect fusion to assemble all of these things like metal, guff and punk. See. I love that because I'm both a metal head and a punk, which I couldn't be in the eighties when I first got into the whole scene. Like I was a long hair If I went to a punk show, I got my ass kicked, and if a punk came to a metal show, they got their ass kick. That was just the stupid as shit. Ever, like we were both similar types of music, we were both getting bullied by the jocks in school band together morons instead of fighting each other. And I'll tell you a funny story about that. So there's this place in Hollywood on Melrose called Posers, which is where you got your spikes, but only if you were a punk. I wanted to go there because that was the place to get all your spikes and stuff. So I recruited two of my punk friends because they knew the owners, and I'm like, hey, bring me there so I don't get my ass kicked, you know, And they brought me. I was in there for twenty seconds and my friend walks up to me.

02 He's like, we got to leave. I'm like, you mean, I'll tell you outside. We got to leave now the godside he goes, because we know the are owners. They gave us a courtesy and told and told me I had to get you out a store before they kicked your Ass's that's that's so crazy, especially because Glenn's got long hair now, right, you know. And Dri Dri was one of the first ones to grow to their hair out, you know. And our our second show ever was supporting Dri Nice. They're one of my favorites ever. Really, that first album, I'm not dealing with it the first album. Oh my god, that was insane. Well, I'm more of the metal dri thresh.

45 And well, I like both. I like listen. I'm an old school thrash metal head. I went to Metallica's first show ever, slayers first show ever. When they left LA, me and my bro would hitch up to the Bay Area to go catch the real shows. Like, if you were to ask me to pick a genre one it would be thrash. But I like all of them, like you know, I like, you know, Possessed was There's like controversy because they were when I was growing up, they were the first death metal band, but death metal bands called them thrash, and they used to make fun of them that they were a Slayer, you know, copycat. And I never saw them as sounding like Slayer. I thought they sounded totally different, you know. But now it's funny.

38 Thrash came from bands like the Misfits, you know, yeah, and and have Field huge Misfits fan and Slayer. Two of them were punks, two were well, one was metal head. Tom wasn't even didn't even know metal when he joined Slayer. Go figure that one out. Uh, And so that's how that whole thresh scene was the first starting of the combining of the two genres together to make what we have today with a lot of the bands. You know, Suicidal was originally pure punk, but they crossed over. Dri I crossed over and they dri still plays near me in this club that I love every single year, and they still are so fucking good to watch.

30 Yure R I on are on tour in Germany right now, but they don't play Vukan, which is a shame. Total shame. We got we gotta change that. Yeah, we're bringing that out in the universe right now on this interview that dri I needs to play Vadkan. I wonder if they even play uh, what's it called Rebellion. I wonder if they play Rebellion, you know Rebellion, the big punk one. And you know, that's one one of my dream festivals. I would love to play there because all the big bands play there in small venues right like from Germany de Jordan holes and they play there all the time, and it would be amazing to play a show there. Yeah, so I They a lot of times played the same weekend as Bloodstock, and I've been invited to go do media rebellion, and so I think I'm always doing Bloodstock, but I was told this year. Next year it'll be a different weekend. So now I'll go next year because that is that's a killer festival. That's on my bucket.

30 Let's just speak to the promoter, tell them about us. Yes, I will, like, I'm not comming unless the other is on your and it'll be the other. What just the other? Okay, that's all you need to know. And so I have a trivia question for you. Now, what band that you would never think or maybe you would was originally a horror punk band and ended up a glam hair metal band? Wow? Ah? And it was the first club show I ever went to as this band, and I liked them a lot better as horror punk.

14 Tough question, I would say one of Linda Madley Crue from the. Bing Ming Ming Mingming. You got it. That's absolutely one correct. Wild guess though, but yeah, I mean it's of all the hair metal bands, they're the most horror Yeah. So that first. I grew up in Jersey in nineteen eighty I was twelve years old. My dad comes up to me, he says, pack your bags, were moving to California. In three days. Now. Initially I was very pissed about that. Now I'm very happy about that. We wouldn't be seeing here right now because I got involved in that whole LA Sunset Strip scene. First club show I ever went in my life was Motley Crue before they had an album, when they were horror punk at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip and they were lighting everything on fire, try and bring Satan into the club.

07 Oh, I'm jealous. I'm dying here. We actually played Los Angeles. We played the Whiskey in twenty sixty nine, legendary club. Oh yeah, so a little bit of what you're describing, We had a little bit of that experience. He's gonna be really jealous because I used to hang out with Mick Mars at the mall. Wow, and then like the Rainbow. Okay, so I go by the Rainbow now I look. I'm like they're id and everybody like, hey, did I ever get in there in the eighties because I was thirteen years old walking into the Rainbow. Then I thought about it. I'm like, oh, I was walking in with Motley Crue and hanging out with Lemmy at thirteen, Like wow, thanks Dad, I thought you were being an asshole, moving me away from all my friends and my whole life.

58 But thanks, So what was the show you ever saw? The first ever show? The first ever show I saw was not even the band but because they were gone, but it was beatle Mania and Madison Square Garden. No way you saw the Beatles. That It wasn't the Beatles. It was called beatle Mania. It was that tribute thing that they did for a while. I'm not I'm not even old enough to see the Beatles. That was the first one. The first what I considered the first real concert I went to being a real band was Journey and lover Boy believe it or not. Okay, And I have a question for him too from something he said earlier. Are you team Diano or team Dickinson.

45 I'm team Dickinson. See I love Dickinson, but I'm team Diano because Killers is my favorite Maiden album ever. I hear it, I hear you. Dickenson's got a great voice. My first concert I ever went to was also a tribute show. Was in my hometown and there was an Iron Maiden tribute band featuring the drummer from Halloween actually Nile Power Slave, and. I was you know, I was fourteen years old. I had a new Maiden shirt, and you know, people were giving us shit because yeah, those were new shirts. But we're fourteen.

25 I mean where would I get an old shirt? You know. And we had the exact same conversation with all dudes, is said, you know, we're a team Diana. But a good friend of mine is actually he played with a Diana a long time after he left Maiden, and. He also has a vegan cookbook. Wow, yeah, so you should What you need to do is you need to give that vegan cookbook to Doyle Oil two toys. He's in it. He's in it. That makes sense, That makes sense.

06 Yeah, they have a features side and a few other others. That's cool. So the question you should have asked me, which you'll like the answer, is who was the first album you ever owned? Meaning me? So go ahead, you can ask. Yeah, what's your the first album you ever owned? So is that I was in like I think first grade or something like that, you know, maybe a little older, maybe I was like seven eight nine, and I was at the Jersey Shore, which if you know anything about that, it's a boardwalk like a carnival on the beach all the time, and there was there was this Carnie game where you could win an album, and I won it, and I looked up and there was one album that just like, oh my god, those fucking dudes look cool.

59 It's when the album first came out, the original Kiss album. There it is. Let's see that tat Yeah, okay, you Kiss tattooed on my arm. Who's your favorite? Well, that's. Gene is the biggest, Paul, those are my favorites. Of course, I'm not a big fan of Peter Cris drumming or his look, but so he's the original. Now see, you're not gonna like me now because I played drums for nine years and it was because of two drummers, Peter Chris and Ringo Starry. So I was always more an Eric Carr fan because he hit the drums really hard.

39 And I like the eighties Kiss a lot too. Yeah, there you go. And I used to dress up as Gene Simmons for Halloween. Me too, And I always loved space Ace like to me, he was such a great guitar. So he's pretty funny too, right, And we were talking about Paul Deiano, and you know, I got requested to do an interview with him, like a month before he died, and but they said, but it had to be I forget what it was some weird way to do it, and I'm like, yeah, I can't do it like that. I won't be able to broadcast that, you know, like it was a non technology thing. It was like just on like a landline phone or something, I don't know, something weird like that, you know. And I'm like, I can't do it. And I was really bummed out because then he died like a month later.

26 I'm like, oh, maybe I should have figured it away. But uh so, what else do you want to let the listeners know about you guys, and what you got coming up, what they should look out for, how they connect to you on socials and all that. And by the way, that in that one there, At first, you know, I was thinking it looked I was gonna say, it looks like Doyle. And now I'm seeing, like, if you took Doyle and Frankenstein and combine them, that's that tattoo. It's totally true. I mean, Doyay's look is iconic though, right, And it's obviously since Doyle Wolfgung from Frankenstein, right, you know, it's what he looks like. I guess. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Well, yeah, we're we're we're playing Brazil next year. We're playing the the Bengus Open Air. We're playing Oh yeah.

14 I've I was gonna try to getting there. I tried once. I didn't get in yet, but I heard Brazil that's the place to play. And we're very excited. You know. It's one of those things you look forward to and you still think it can't be happening. Some something, some war, some whatever will come in between, it will not make it. But yeah, we're we're really hoping that it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen. We're putting it out there. Yeah, nothing bad is gonna happen to stop it, you know, except maybe my country. Right, we have we have that compilation album coming out. It's called Other Dimensions because it's songs from a decade.

57 So yeah, then we're gonna work on a new album with new songs that should come out on Halloween next year if they're passed enough. And our last album was top ten album here in number six the official album charts. That's you know, yeah, that's that's something you. Yeah, and now by listening doesn't listen to your music. Now, they're just not in style or trendy because you know you're you're like the top, one of the top bands, and they're not listening. They're stupid. Very true. Well, I would tell I would like to tell you listeners that, yeah, like like a Venom already said, we have that mix of punk and metal and golf.

45 If you like the Misfits, if you like Danzig, if you. Like Typeou, if you like Afi all that kind of stuff, you will probably like us. They definitely will, because you guys are badass and you have to be good to play a Vodkin anyway. So I mean, come on, it's the Holy ground. If you're playing here, you must be good. And we're so proud. Seriously, it's an honor to be here. Well, it's an honor to have you here, and I look forward to seeing a lot more of you. Thank you so much. Thank you for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Yeah, thank you. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipemin. I'm w for CUI Radio.
