01 Hi, you learnt to rue for wow for you your. But it's the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio and I'm here with Skyline. We are a band based in Germany, in Vuking actually and uh yeah, we're connected. To the festival since the very first edition of it. The guys in the band Skyland Bick then founded the festival and said, oh we want to let's play at a big festival and none will take them.
42 So they have their own that I loves. My name is Joey. Yeah, I'm Dan, I'm. Last, I'm the basement, the basement. Yeah yeah, So you're the important part of the band, right you. Are all right, we are. We are missing the drumma right now because he's at the infirmary. Oh because he before the no no, before the gig, we were setting up the gear behind the face, you know, and somehow he cut his finger open. Oh shit, so he had to be patched up to play the gig. And now he is getting stitches. Wow. Now that's metal. That was metal. Come on, that is total metal. And I am like it really blew my mind. This is like an interview that I wanted most of all of them, because like you're the first headliners of vokin here.
36 I mean, that's just incredible. It is, it is, it's almost unbelievable. Just like Dan said, we're sorry of missing Goozy because he's the only surviving original member of the band. And now, yeah, well we'll have to pay on the blood on the bricks, but blood on the drums and yeah he's getting stitched up right now. There's blood on my eighty battle vest too. It should be right. Take a look at that. It looks nice. People. You cannot see it, but it says Slayer on Metallica. And there's some what's this. I've done all the drawings, you drew it yourself. Yeah, the stuff here excellent Metallica. Yeah you love Metallica, don't you.
16 Well that's what survived. But yeah it was at their first show ever. For that's venom ah. Okay, but here I'll show you because it fell off at the festival. That's left of it. Yeah that's from the marsh. You needed to get that stitched up as well. I know that's from the marsh pit. Okay. And yeah, so this I was at Metallica's first show ever and I was at Slayers first show ever. In fact, they didn't even have a patch, So I you do. Those are velvet iron on. Now let me ask you a question. How old were you when you put that on on your vest? Probably around thirteen, maybe fourteen, like ten years ago?
00 Right, yeah, yeah, exactly, you look awesome. I must tell you, well, thank you, like I try. You know, that's from Guming the music festivals again named mash Pitz, you know, like marsh Pitz, best therpy ever and best cardio ever. Yes, you know, if. You need some proteins and then you're good to go. Exactly, exactly cool. So how does it feel to be here at the thirty fifth anniversary of vaking? Okay, now you have me. I'm the new guy in the band. So you're still here? Yeah, yeah, I'm still here for me. It's the fifth time, fifth yeah, and I must say today was the best show we ever did, right, guys.
44 From the very first we. Have We have an announcer, Harri Meto. I don't know if you guys know him. He has a YouTube channel and does all this stuff and reporting from the festival and the setting up and everything else. Oh wait, I'm insulted now, you didn't have me announced the next time we will Okay, let's. Give us that card and then no, from the very first announcement to people get high, blab for skyline and the curtain dropped to the very last note where we played the. We had we have a little hymn and little anthem. It's called WOA and it's connected to the festival so much that people keep requesting it, requesting it, requesting it, and we ourselves sometimes thinking, oh, we cannot play it every year, can we use But so we had it.
29 We had it coming from the tape because we had the original studio recordings. Lass take over. Please what did. Just take the choir and started put it on? Let the audience sing along? Yeah, yeah, I mean we have this anthem. We actually wrote two in connection with the thirtieth anniversary. We have Buckan and it's kind of become the I would say, the two songs that people really know from from fucking festival. I think you should sign it for me on the interview. Oh my god, Oh it's a master piece. Thirty ye is of history. Ain't a better place to stay? Stop you away?
37 I love it. I love it that that's the best part of the interview. Right there, and uh, don't drop these are very important. You might have a heart attack if you don't have them. So, like, it is wild to me. That's why I had to come cover this festival. It's wild to me that it started off as like this little nothing and has turned into the biggest metal festival in the. World, in the fucking world. Yeah, we we didn't know it. You could say whatever the fuck you want, okay, I mean. Okay, Now, we were in this very small band back then, and we knew the guys and they.
20 Invited us to play. So we actually played in nineteen ninety two with our band back then, and now we arrived here on the thirty fifth anniversary. It's incredible. It's really incredible. It is. And even as it's Americans, like we look at this. It's like a millionaire story, you know, from a small festival to. To the biggest in the world. You know, it's funny. I had to come to Germany for the American dream because that would be the American dream, that's where you get out. Yeah, and it just blows my mind. And then yesterday, first of all, I live in Florida. I'm sorry I brought this heat with me. Okay, well it's better than last year.
02 It's you know, it's rain or shine, and today everybody says shine because it's not raining. Everybody's better than last year. But I gotta tell you, I had like one hour. Break yesterday during the day, so I decided to roam the ground. Of course, I only touched a small part of it. I was like, oh my god, you could walk like twenty miles around the whole place and not see everything, which is what's going on here. It's incredible. That's the wasteland where it looks like matt Mix. Yeah. Then there's this pirate thing and medieval market and what have you. I saw the pirate thing, but I didn't see the wistland yet, and I had it in my thing. I want to go see the fights and all that stuff, and I haven't made it yet because I'm stuck in here.
53 And you know, basically, I mean I've been to hell fast and I was thinking before coming here. I'm like, well, health, that's pretty big. It can't be much bigger than that. I'm here now, Holy fucking shit, Like I can walk with health fast in the hour. I can't walk this shit in the now. No, No, I don't know how they do it, but it's still got this family village vibe to it. You know what I'm saying. It's everybody knows everybody, from the crew to the stay chance, to the merged guys, to the caterers. Everyone. It's like a family.
33 Really, it is a totally It sounds like I'm exaggerating, but no, it's not. It's and we're I'm, like I said, I'm the new guy. I'm surprised every year how smoothly everything goes and how relaxed everybody is. And the whole metal family is so cool. There's thresh metal, heavy metal, dark metal, light metal, I don't know, metal metal, blah blah blah blah blah. And everybody's tolerant, everybody's peaceful, everybody just enjoying being together. Loud music. I mean, we're listening to only John Row from Scorpions right now in the background. Can you hear it? Yep? Yeah. And then on the. Next stage of this year about sabotage. Then the next bend will be therapy and so on and so on.
18 It's it's incredible. Don't tell sabotage. But like I was, I wanted to interview you guys, Warden sabotage. Don't tell no, Okay, you know. And it's interesting because I have this and I just thought something as you were talking. But I have an idea, but then I didn't know where I was going to do it, and I think it should be done here. I have the idea of how to solve all the world's problems. Okay, basically do. It one May one main metal festival that. The whole world is required. To attend, except the world lead and any politicians. Security has very strong instructions they are not allowed. And then everybody just has one big wall of death and moshpit and will work all our shit out. And now I realize, being here, this is probably the only place in the world that we could accomplish it.
23 Yeah, this is the closest thing right. Right, you know, because metal heads everybody's scared of us, but we're a big family. You go into the pit, somebody falls, you pick them up. You're bashing against each other, and then when it's over, you give each other a hug, and then we're not kicking people's asses outside. Yeah, that is incredible. Yeah, it's because we let off steam ahead of time, so there's no aggression. At all, whether they want to say, well. They're looking at us. Is that your drummer over there? Because I see because I saw it stuff around his fingers.
04 Oh, there you go. That's why I was going to say, because I saw that, I'm like, maybe that's the stitches. He ran over from the infirmary because he heard the pipe man were still in an interview. Just to make a little advertisement advertising. How do you say it? It's a commercial break right now because we have two albums out and we're planning a third one because the fans love it so much. Tonight we played too. Yeah, it's if nobody would. Ever come to our shows because we're mainly known as kind of a cover band, but we have a Yeah, we developed the soul of our own and if you want to listen to our album, Human Monster, just do that. It's excellent. It's produced by.
48 La Jakobson and mixed by. J famous producer. Yeah, I'm forgetting the names. You have to cut that he's doing he's doing my job. Am I are you? You wanted to bring that up to You're right, you're my co host. And the first album is like it paved the way. It's called uncovered because just like I said, we were kind of more of a cover band ahead of time. And then yeah, we're getting our own identity now, so come and check us out. I love it. Well. Not only that, but I'm going to tell the listeners they have to buy all your albums or they can't fucking listen to my show.
32 That's period, and then invite us to Florida. Right, you'll invite us. To absolutely come on down. Yeah, what's what would you say? And you might all have a different opinion. What would you say is your favorite song that you have covered? Our favorite song to cover? My my favorite song is Oh that's that's a tough one, dream Engine because it's very personal cover song. Cover Yeah, no cover. I don't like any cover songs. I'm saying, No. We are so good at ing this stuff. We like all the classic stuff. Iron't made in a c DC. What have you? Okay?
14 Stop right there? The guy to ask, stop right there? Are you team Paul Danno or Bruce Dickinson. I was thirteen years old when I saw Kiss in Hamburg with Iron made in opening with an Eddie who was just a mosque over the face right in a leather Jacket and Paulianno and Clive. Burro what's this? Yeah yeah, Clip Burr. And the Origin the guitarist what's his name with a? Les? Paul? The only guy with a Les? Paul? Oh? Fuck Dennis Stratton. You're good so that? Yeah? Yeah, I'm team Paul Deiano. I think Bruce is good. But Killers is one of the best albums ever.
54 Yeah. Okay, So now let's see if you bat one thousand percent Bond Scott or Brian Johnson. Brian Johnson unfortunately, h see. I'm Bond Scott, but I like Brian Johnson. But no, no, who. I like better? Yes? Yeah, Bone Scott? Sure, yeah, yeah. He passed away three days after my birthday. Oh really, I was really sad. I was why do you do that? I don't know. I cut my wrists several times, but I just won't die. Okay, So how about you? Well, and now you're saying bon Scott is like he's like a hero, you know. I really I'm in the core of my soul. I am also a little soul and bon Scott is sold.
42 Yeah. I was saying rock and roll soul, you know. And what's your favorite cover song that you guys have played. I have no idea. I cannot tell you. Like Joey here, I sing my own songs, but. So he gave his own song. Let's switch gears. What's your favorite own song to play? My favorite own song to play is actually becoming youth a new song now, because today we played a brand new song called Superhero. Oh. I like the name of that alone. Yeah, I mean, and it's like it's brilliant to play, and the audience it seems to like it a lot.
25 It had such superpowers that I could hear it here in the press. Ten. That's nice. You will be the first person that we send it to. I promise you. I love it. Okay, let's get their choices. That's so on tape. I have proof, I have proof, you have proof. Yep. Okay, let's see. I have a choice as well. You have a choice. You can either pick your favorite original of yours or your favorite cover song that you've played. Actually, I don't have a favorite cover song. See, none of you got that question? Bad? Yeah he also doesn't have one, I hope. And my favorite own song is called under the Radar.
08 Nice. I live like that my whole life. So I like maybe the song is about somebody like you. It might be. It might be, especially now with what's going on in my country. I like to stay way under the radar. Too late. Okay, then it's me a little forward or backwards on Scott is nice. But the best ACDs album is still Back in Black. I think, yeah, that's argue. I don't know. I don't know. My my lovely own song is Kill the Queen. I think from the first. Item, all right, nice, now, okay, so you're not gonna like me for this. I do like Back in Black, but when I first bought it, I did not like it.
00 But because in. Our time, you spent your hard earned money as a kid buying an album, you listen to it until you like it. That's what's been with me. It was the first album I bought Brandy New Oh there you go. I was a kid and heard the CDC, the older SDC albums, but this was the first on my first stereo compact and. Lag wow say that ten times fast. I put it on hurd bing Bing and I was fleshed. Nice. So here's what's interesting that we talked about Maiden and ac DC is that their two bands that are probably were the most successful to take a unique voice and find one similar. And if you understand what I mean, like Brian Johnson, Bond Scott, it's similar, you know, Bruce Dickinson, Deano similar, not the same, but like you have all these bands that try again new singer that's.
05 Totally different the end of the band. Right, yeah, exactly. That's why we. Never switched thingers. We have we have the best. Really, where is the check us out? He's right in front of you. I want I was tempted to say open your eyes, but I should say open your ears. Yeah, right there you go. Well I could tell how good he was because and we have proof because he sang on the interview, when's your meet and greet? The next you need to go? When do you need to go for the meet and greet?
45 Oh we are busy band today. Now we haven't meet and greet. Okay, well we'll be done. Go ahead. He wants he wants to mister shuttle. He's like, fuck the meet and Greek. This is more fun. It is. So now let's say, well, first, let's pick this should be an easy question. If you fail, I'm getting. He's very Christians in a row thing. No, it's just. This one more and then there'll be other stuff we talk about, but this one. If you get it wrong, then I end the interview. Okay, what's your favorite music festival in the whole world?
28 Fucker, there you go. You might was an easy one. Thank you, Dan. We're trying to get you to play again every year. Yeah. I think you should play every year. You should be like the house band of Vaking. That's what we are, actually, right, I've been playing since two thousand and nine in a row, every single year, every single year. See always on the main stage, and one of the main stages is. Faster and hotter, always opening the. That's what she says. Stay, that's what she said, harder. Yeah, I got it. I got you, and we're looking. Forward to doing it thirty five years more so we will be the first headliner ever to come out in wheelchairs.
15 I like it. Well, I mean we are the band who played the most times on backan. I love it. No. I think a couple of years ago it was seventeen times. Wow, that's a lot of time. Yeah, and nobody can beat us in that. I think that's the only reason people come to Vocking to come to your set. Wow. Maybe I don't know. When you read in the online forums, you can. You can read that people are talking about it in this Okay, we can go around here unrecognized. Right, we're not famous or something. But the name Skyline is and the band the act is playing, and it's they say, if Skyline and does not open the stage on Thursday, it's not a vakan.
05 It's like in the opera, as long as the blonde fat woman doesn't sing, the opera is not over. Right, that's right, that's right. Do you say, yes, it's not over. It's not over till the fat ladies things. It's not over till Skyline plays. That's why it is. It hasn't started. That's right, that's right. It's only complete with the firefighters, with Skyline, with all the stages, with Choumas and Hauga giving their speech and stuff. Man, it's like I said, it's a it's a it's a traditional thing, but without being boring. See, I am interviewing the firefighters too for the same reason because like those are the bands of my interview, the ones that really make vacant Vacan simple as that.
56 Also, the inhabitants in the village, I mean, come on, they could be so annoyed that people are vomiting or pissling in the gardens. No, they make little loose for them. They sell cookies and drinks or just let people sleep there. It's great. Next year, that's what I want to do. I'm just gonna sleep there. You No, No, the next year is going to be a little different because there will be an undermining of the holy ground, and there will be a garage for to park and more be a pipelines and so we all can stay here all year.
37 Well, here's what I really want to request from the people that run vokin Build a tunnel from the US to here, so that we can all just come across the tunnel to vok In and not worry about getting stopped at the border. Yeah, that could be great, right, And I'll tell you what too. It blew my mind yesterday. It happened by mistake that I was over like when I was doing that wandering I told you about. I happened to be there when they were doing opening the infield. Now I was at the accident. By accident, I was there, okay, and I didn't know what was going on at first.
21 I'm looking at I. Got to read your schedule more probably I was too. Busy interview and so, but I end up over there, and it's so, is it that time? Okay, go ahead. I ended up. Over No, I end up over there, and it reminded me. I was at the UTS Festival in nineteen eighty three. It reminded me of that when they opened the gates and everybody's just running. I almost got trampled because I was videoing it. I had to jump out of the way. Oh quo. Okay to the listeners off W four, see why this is skyline. We are sending greetings from fucking out too America.
10 We love you. We will get there very soon, I'm sure. Thanks Dein for the nice talking interview. I don't know what it. Was my pleasure gathering. Build that tunnel so we can get you there. That we will do. Thanks for being on Adventures of pipe Man, Thanks for being a valking and thanks for being a fucking best coolest band here Rocket. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipelin. I'm w for CUI Radio.
