On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman interviews Adam and Sean from the band WHYTHRE. The band's sound is primarily thrash metal, and Pipeman noted how he was able to pick up on the genre without having read the press release before listening to their music. Adam and Sean both agree that the thrashy parts of their songs were derived from their love for thrash metal from the '80s and '90s. Sean started the project in 2010 as a solo project, and Adam joined in 2015 after they met at a pride parade. Adam was busking with a bucket drummer, and when Sean walked by, he handed Adam a link to his latest album. Adam went home, listened to it and messaged Sean to tell him, "Let's do it." Although Sean wasn't sure about Adam's situation as he saw him busking, he showed up on a Harley, and the two of them have been working together ever since. They both bring their influences to the table and continue to grow their music together. As the interview progresses, Sean and Adam talk about their music and their plans. Sean talks about how he is excited to play their songs live and hopes to make it to as many shows as possible. They also talk about how their music is received and how they are always trying to improve and refine their sound. They hope to continue making music and sharing it with others. You can check the band out on Bandcamp and on Spotify for the music. As for their socials, you can find them under @whythreofficial on Instagram and over on Facebook too, and finally be sure the check out the merch too WHYTHRE (Melodic Death Metal – USA) – Unveil Video For “Scorchbreath” From New Album “Impregnate My Hate” Out May 2023 The single “Scorchbreath” describes adventures Adam and Shon experienced on trips to Colombia (Santa Marta) and Detroit (Movement music festival). “Scorchbreath” chronicles a code word that was spoken to engage in after-hour events and various forms of libations. These travels hold a special place in the hearts of Adam Chambers (vocals/guitars/synths) and Shon Petrey (guitar/synths) and this song brings back fond memories. Musically, the single has some punchy/thrashy verses with a big carnival vibe of a chorus, all while incorporating fun shred moments. The band explains the single and the album further: This article has a review & links to both singles/videos out from our upcoming album "Impregnate My Hate"

00 Hey, you love them too? Sure. I'm from four C Wold where you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pikeman on W four C White dot com West pom Beats number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. Find the White dot White. What I a bid dotter bite said the cowboys about backsideh This is the Pike Man here on the aventw foc by Radio and I'm here with our next guests who had some Taylor music that I love and we're going to talk about. So let's welcome to the show. Adam and Sean from Whither. How are you doing good?

15 Yeah, having a good one. Glad to be here. Thanks for having us. Oh my pleasure. And you know, it's funny because I have this tendency of when I do my interviews, I'll listen to the new music first. Then I'll read the press release, you know, because I want to get my own vibe instead of being influenced by the press release and see what I think of it. And so when I was listening to Scorch Breath, it was like, I was like, oh man, that's like thrash metal. And so it's pretty cool that afterwards, I read the press release and it was and talked about how that song had thrashy parts to it and the whole album has thrashy parts to it, and see, I picked that right off the bat, and that's what I love about it. Part of it awesome. Yeah, thrash model is definitely a huge part of like my growing up during the nineties, and yeah, it's always been a sound and vibe I clung to and never really let go of. So yeah, you know, that song was kind of like about this music festival that Sean and I went to in Detroit, and you know, there's kind of these like mosh pit asque things, kind of thrashy moments, and so that's where the lyrics came from. And so it's like that it makes sense that that's the vibe that just kind of involuntarily got in part of while we were writing it. Nice because it reminded me. Okay, so you say you go

47 back front to the nineties, I go back to the eighties. So it reminded me of being at gigs in the Bay Area where you would have Metallica, but you also have Dark Angel I'm possessed. So it's like, well, what I meant when I'm when I meant by the nineties, it was like I was listening to thrash metal from the eighties in the nineties, so I was kind of misspeak on my part. Yeah, even better eighties trash metal for sure is the well that that's what it did for me. It brought me back to like if you were to take possess Dark Angel and Metallica and they had a baby, that's what it would sound like. Awesome.

32 Yeah, hell yeah, that's my braise. So tell us a little bit about you guys. For the people that are listening have never heard you, never heard your music, tell them what you're all about. You know how this came about and where you see it going. Well, I started this project in twenty and ten is just like a solo project where I was just like really kind of like Pony and like composing and doing all. You know. That's when a lot of the DAWs and guitar pro and all the abilities to program drums and I was kindind of learning that whole thing and did that for a few years and then and then twoy fifteen I ran into Adam at actually Pride Parade and he was busting on the guitar and he was. As I was walking by, I just hear played a boat them lick and that's kind of how that started. So yeah, I love it. That's a great story. Yeah, you know, I think the drummer, the bucket drummer. I was playing with the stake in a break, so I was like, oh, screw it, I'll start playing some metal. And yeah, John posted up for a minute. He gave me the link to his you know, his album that he had just put out, and I said, you know, maybe maybe take a listen. And you're trying to tell out a band and dude, like I went home and four in the morning, I was eating mac and cheese and listen to it. It's texted it like you know, expletive expletive, like let's do it. Yeah. So

10 yeah, And I wasn't sure about Adam's situation because I just saw him on the street busting, so I didn't know if he what his situation was, if he was homeless or what. But like I was just like whatever he shows up on Harley, I was like, Okay, he's got his he's got his stuff together. So but yeah, and then ever since then, it's just been yeah, just growing, mending our influences and influencing each other and and it's just really this album really kind of culminates, like from twenty fifteen. We did release an epe twenty eighteen, but this one really kind of culminates all the stuff that we've been like doing together. And yeah, So you know, it's funny you were saying the homeless part, and I was laughing to myself because I was thinking about Okay, so I didn't interview several years back with Rob Zombie when there was like at that time this rumor that he was not let into his own gig because security at the venue thought he was just some homeless guy trying and crash the place. So when you were saying that, it just brought me back to that, and it turned out it wasn't really a true story, but I could see people believing it because you know, they would look at Rob Zombie and maybe think that you know, or or people would easily make that stuff up. So I think

43 it's pretty funny. You just never know who people are when you first encounter them. You absolutely don't. And you know, in Seattle, like I've been let down that at that point in time at twenty fifteen, like I had been trying to put together a full band, but you know, people would flake, or people would be freeloaders, or people would talk up the big game and they weren't very counting it. Like it was just so many trial and error with people, so you just never know. But yeah, Adam was Adam. Adam just came. He was with a lot of just positive energy and like just yeah, it was and then we never really looked back since then. That's cool. And you know how many of those people that like flake on you are usually the ones that you think are going to be really good. It's always the ones you think like, oh, this is it, and they're always the ones that are not definitely it. Yeah, yeah, we we had some We had a lot of difficulties within the in the drum well, I mean, me and Adam have a joke that like it's like you go out at night and yeah, if you get a girl's number, that's great, but you get a good drummer's number, that's even better. A good I mean a good drummer, and Metals really don't, I mean, they're horning themselves out to like a million bands you know, so it like you already got to go into that relationship. No,

15 when you're gonna be in an open one. That's funny. I love it. So tell everybody how they can connect you guys on the web on social media. Check out the new music. It's dropping in May, so when they can, how they can like maybe pre save or pre order the new album and pregnate my hate, which, oh my god. Like the minute I saw that, I was thinking, that is so two thousand and twenty three, because this is like the world we're limited right now. That just describes the world right now. Yeah, yeah, that was like what we were going for. Sean came up with that title and we were just like, oh shit, like this is so we can grow a lot of like cool evil ideas from this, and that's definitely what we're going for social commentary.

11 I think I was always worried someone would be like if Gregna, I hate, like what's going on you guys? Like what are you into? But like everyone's like no, like modern modern communication. Yeah yeah, I mean listen, you're right though like five years ago people would have ain't clue what that meant, or maybe ten years ago or whatever. And now that they would know exactly what it means. Yeah, provocatives provocative, you know, and what was provocative back then, in my opinion just isn't like you know, like I feel like satanism in metal back in in the nineties was provocative, but now it's not very provocative. Opinion. Oh, I remember I would be in high school in the eighties and people would come up to me and go, oh, you're a devil worshiper because I was wearing like an Aussie T shirt. It was yeah, nobody comes up to nobody.

09 Everybody's just now normal exactly. Nobody cares. Now it's like it's it's so interesting to see where metal has come because like in the beginning, there are people that were metal heads just because of the shock value. It wasn't even necessarily the music. It was just a shock value. And now you have you have like preppies that listen to metal, like like those were the people you were trying to stay away from back then. One of the Cosians wearing Slayer shirts, you know what kind of right exactly, Like no, yeah, but it is cool nowadays that it is like one of the most inclusive places, Like you go to a metal festival as like one of the most inclusive places where you can go away from all the bullshit going on the world, all the hate going on in the world, and be one big family.

05 Yeah yeah, I mean I feel like music always kind of you know, clears up, clears out the differences and people for sure, no doubt. So let's tell everybody how they can connect you on socials, how they can get the new album when it drops all that good stuff. Yea, So we got the band name is with her w h y th h r E and Sean came up with that spelling. What was it, Sean, you like the way it looks. I just like the letters, like, oh, I like the straight letters. I don't know the continents. Oh, it just looked. It was nothing too, I mean obviously with her like I think with her naturally and the ka naturally, So that kind of was that. But like the spelling, I thought it was cool and unique looking. Yeah. So we got wither dot com, We got on were with her on band camps, Spotify, on Instagram. Where were their official no space Facebook? Yeah, that's really it. Go through our band camp as the old stuff as a way to pre save for the new album.

09 We got some new merch. We got merch that's probably more like traditional metal looking, and then we have one based on this song we got called c Section Slurpie. It's just this fetus coming out into a chellis looks like something O a metal acalypse or something. And I was totally imaging it in my mind as you're saying it too. And that's it. Yeah, everybody definitely needs to support you by buying merch. I tell people all the time that listen my show because that's the only way you guys survive nowadays, especially after COVID. For sure, Yeah, for sure. And I will say that I do like the way it looks like. Okay, so so when I went to see the album cover because I always love album art, you know, and which yours is badass. That if nothing else, everybody listening has to go check out the album art of the album because it is badass.

07 But it does, you know, it does look pretty cool how it's written there, and you know, unlike you know some other you know, metal logos, you can read it. Well, that was a big, big, you know criteria. I'm not I'm not into the I mean, you know, bands these days, especially at our level are pretty are already obscure, so right, that's needed to further obscure ourselves. It's so funny because last night I was talking to somebody, one of my photographers, about a festival that I'll probably be covering, and I was reading off all the bands and there was I knew all the bands except one, and they definitely had one of those logos you could not read it. And I said, well, I can't read this, but that means I don't know them, because otherwise I wouldn't. No way, Yeah, I hear you, So that's cool. I love the music, badass. I always love when you can combine like death, melody, thrash all in one place, like it was so segregated when I was a kid. I love that you can blend the genres now and create a unique sound, because that's the thing if you're just straight one like microgenre. I think nowadays they're all sounding the same unless they blend the genres. Well, we like we take a huge effort, and I've always like got like I wanted to. I mean, metal is always

41 naturally gonna be technical and that kind of with guitar playing and instruments and stuff. But like I think, well, we t take a focus on like the song good songwriting like I wanted to be, not I mean, yeah, they're metal songs that I want them to be, like just good songs period, not you know, holy probable, you know. So, yeah, that's something we try to we try to achieve and a lot of times that means doing sinc doing like more simple rifts and stuff like that. But you know, well, it's badass. I love it. I know our listeners will too, and I can't wait to hear more from you guys.

22 Thanks for giving us great music, and thanks for being on the Adventures of pight Man. Dude, thanks so much, thankful, Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pight Man on W four CUI Radio
