04 Hey, you have done to censure. I'm for see wow crazy young row. Why Coup America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four c why dot Com. West pomp Beach is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. Little Sex Free me all on the loone. Someday we'll break down up this sell call calling the.
54 Sex or something there. Which is the pipeline? Here on the Adventure pipe Man W four CY Radio And I'm here with Bended Yes at Rock Klahoma. So, uh, why don't you guys all introduce each other? Oh? Wow, jesus, I'm Griffin. I play the spoon, but I sometimes do vocals. I'm JJ play bass, grod, ukulele, coole, guitar. Simon drums. Nice fucking you guys killed it. From what I heard at Rock Loma, I couldn't get out of stupid tent because I always try to catch your show at the festivals. Today I couldn't. But there was another band I interviewed. They were like, oh, yeah, we drove up they are playing. They were killing it and you guys are pretty badass. So how did this all start?
57 Well, this all started way back in middle school. With me and Cole. Cole walked up to me and asked if I wanted to do a band with him together, and I was like, absolutely, fuck yeah, let's try this out. And so we went and excuse me, sorry, we went. We did the Talent Show together. We played it smells like teen Spirit by Nirvana. Worst show of my life. But no, henceforth we or like after that, we just started doing like a bunch more stuff, started getting more band members together. We got Simon in to do drums, and he like really pushed us to like start writing. Our own music. And then we got JJ and then we got grod In and after that it's the rest is fucking history. We were we've just been like going off. This whole fucking mantra of like world domination, and we've been doing everything that we can not only to have a good to give a good time, but to have a good time and just like spread spread love and passion and pure hate and pure hate and aggression with our with our music and our you know, with with our shows.
57 I love it. And you guys do look like have passion up there. I love that word, because if you don't have fucking passion on stage I don't care how good yard. It's not fun. It's not fun for you, and it's not fun for me listening, you know, and watching, and you can tell when you look at rs up there, or they do it because they're having a fucking blast, or because they think it's a job. And if you're doing this for a job, you're fucking insane, because this is the wrong job to have if you don't like it and you don't have fun. There's a lot of sacrifice that comes into this job. No doubt, no doubt. And I think a lot of people don't realize that. They don't realize what you guys put into this, you know, to make this happen. They look at you playing at Danny Wimmer Festival and like, oh, must be nice, and it's like they fucking work their fucking ass off.
50 Excuse me, I missed the Renaissance Fair this tour, like I'm missing out on a lot. Of shit right now. But no, yeah, no, there's like and on top of that and like missing stuff like there is there is a like like I said, there is that's the theme of this tour, by the way, like I I missed the Renaissance Fair. To do this tour. But that's so fucking funny because I've gone to a Renaissance festival every year since the eighties until the last couple of years, because there were always festivals during that time. I'm like, fuck, my parents, my parents. Well, actually, my mom and my grandma worked at the Renaissance Fair and we had a shop called Queen Victoria Secrets, and we said we sold corsets because that was what would what would have been the sexy weary back in the day. But anyway, but you know, back to the whole like sacrifice thing, like that's like obviously like funny, funny, shit ish, funny things aside, like like a lot of sacrifice goes into like touring and all that stuff. Like you miss out on weddings, you miss out on, you know, events you would miss out on, like funerals, you miss out on like a lot of things because you're out in the world, out out on the road and are working and it really like it's difficult to do it.
04 But that's just that's just par for the course. You know. Then there's the payoff, which is yeah, no getting up there and have a fucking good time, getting. Up there, having a good time and like show showing people a good time and giving them love and giving them so much support and making sure that they have a safe place to be themselves and to let other people be themselves. Nice. So one story good or bad in this journey so far in music when you're like eighty that you're gonna tell people what would be and I think everybody probably has a different answer. Yeah, No, I don't have anything on this one. I can't say shit, there's so much bad things. I can't even say. Oh, I like, oh fuck, okay, fucking our to man, I was about this. I had to like we're we're in our van and polling, and I had to take a shit really fucking bad one morning, and I couldn't I couldn't find the bathroom because we were like outside these apartments. So I like woke up when everybody was asleep. I didn't want to wake anybody up because like, I don't know, it's just like too etiquette.
12 And I found like baby wife's and I found like train tracks in the woods, and I had to I took a ship on these train tracks that. Could have ended up really badly too. And I'm in polling, like I'm just in like a foreign country, nobody else know what's English. And shit, you know what's funny about that story? Yeah? Is that the number one answer I've had from that question from all the bands I've interviewed. Five times, artists said when they ship their pants on stage. I've I shipped my pants on stage at not Fest La. Well there it is number six.
53 The first time we played a stadium in front of like six seven thousand people, I just I just dropped one, and you gotta do what you gotta do. Nice we blew up like a hotel park and not one time with fireworks and ship and then we like we flooded their pool because you know, like you know, like you all jumped together in a pool and the water goes everywhere. We like we flooded. I don't know how you flood a pool, but we flooded a pool and like water was going into the lobby and like the gym and everything, and and then we went and blew up their parking. Lot with yeah or. I don't know.
34 Our very first time when we were in Europe, we got stopped at the border going into Germany, and one by one we all had to go into the gas station bathroom with the border patrol officer and get strip searched, and you know, no one had anything, but he saw everything. So by like the sick by like the third or fourth guy. They'd come back and we were all just laughing and he was just embarrassed that he was strip searching all these dumb kids. It was funny because like like the first person would go in and their face would just be so like just so flat, and like I think like our bus driver went in and he said, like I just dropped my fucking pants and I just let him look at it.
20 And then I went in and I was like about to and he was like. No, no, no, no, no, put him back on. And I was like he's over it. He's fucking over this shit. He's like six seven guys, he's already seen everyone. And I was like, yes, yes, I came out. They're all like, why are you smiling? And I'm like, I didn't get searched. Nice. I think I think the only bad thing that I that I can think of right now was I think just the time that I like the reason why my head is shaven was because we were on tour in Europe like last year and like I was an idiots and I didn't bring any shampoo or conditioner with me. All I brought was a brush and I lost that like a chord of the way into the tour, and like my hair was dreading, it was matting. It was disgusting, like straight up Scottish discusting.
13 It was awful. And it got to the point. Where I just had to look at my boys and I was just like, please shave my head, and they were like, yeah, fuck it, let's do it. And so they shaved. They shaved the ship and we did. We got like a bunch of photos and videos and a bunch of stuff with it, and it was really funny. And they had me do. They had me do the mog video, which I was like, why are you okay? And so like I did it and we just we we were laughing our asses off after that. But other than that, not really many bad, you know experiences other than general typical stress of tour that again par for the course. It's like you get you get worn out, you're you're seeing a bunch of people.
59 Actually you know what. But another thing that is a pet peeve of mine on tour that doesn't happen that doesn't happen just once, just more than once, And these guys say it doesn't happen as much as it as often as it. Does, but you know what it does. I hate it when middle aged women grab my ass during a fucking photo. It actually pisses me off because like if I'd had done that, like it would be so different. But because I'm young, because I'm quote unquote fresh meat, Like it's so yeah, no, I'm young, and like like they just they like I go and get a photo with them, and they just fucking cut a feel on my on my fucking on my on my biscuits, and and like I just because I'm so like socially awkward and like so apathetics, where's things, I'm like, it already happened. I can't tell you no now right, and like like I can't say anything. And why is it that their husbands or boyfriends are always the one taking the fucking photo? Like why is it always like it's always the white trash white woman like just grabbing a feel of my ass, and I'm like, please stop it, no touchy.
06 Feely, like no, imagine if I went and did that to a young girl, what would fucking happens right, everybody beat your ass, you'd go to jail and all that other ship. You know, dude, what is this guy doing over? Oh he's I don't know what the gig is this whole weekend, everybody's looking like George Washington And where is there something I'm missing about George Washington and Oklahoma? I don't know cause it's been whole weekend. I's I play music. I don't know ship right now. To your point about your stories here, if you happen to which you probably won't because you gotta go somewhere else. But if you go out to the campground, there is a camp site called bus Boobs and buttholes.
03 Don't don't describe what happens. We're going after this. Yeah, that's all you need to know. There was a band, yes or I was interviewing and they're like, oh, we gotta go. I'm like, okay, we'll go out after the headliner. We'll go out there. And they were like, holy fuck, this is weird. We just played the Gathering of the Jugglos like two weeks ago. Two weeks ago, it was the best right naked people there's buttholes. Well, basically they have the school bus that they built the deck on top of, and everybody's up there partying and yelling at everybody walking by to show either their boobs or their butthole to get beads like Marti Gras beads.
47 It's amazing what people do for some fucking bead. No. I mean, like, I don't know, the world's crazy. I mean to be fair the okay, two things. One really quick at the gathering of Juggalos on stage as we were performing, like during our first talk on top like to mimic what you're saying, they did chant show your buttthole at at. Us, and I just went up. I went up to the front and I gave them like a look that only my dad could and I was just like I have seen I have met some crazy motherfuckers in my day, and this is something different. But no, yeah, no. On top, like back to the thing, like we're fucking we're driving through. We're in a go car, me, jj Cole and our manager. We're driving through the grounds and they're just like, oh, Griffin, have you been around, like you know, the festival yet And I'm like like no, no, I haven't gone around yet. I haven't left the trailer and they're like, oh no, let's go, Let's do a round of the grounds and let's hang out. And as we're driving around, like JJ, I'm sitting right next to JJ, and he goes, just to warn you, Griffin, there are naked people walking around. Just a fair warning. And as he says that, speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
59 This crests the hill like walks down the hill. No socks, no shoes, no nothing. Only thing he is wearing is a Prince Albert and I just it's like a car crash. I can't I couldn't look away. I was just like, you know what, you live your best life, young man. He dude was mad. I felt very insecure. I was just like, damn, that is the cool thing about festivals is there are no outsiders or weirdos. We're just all fucking this. Who you mean some characters, Oh, no doubt about it. I had a handful of them last night.
40 Man. It's like you just can't avoid it. But that's part of the fun. You know, what else do you guys want to say about what's going on with Vendad after Rockklahoma and you know, any news or anything like that. Well, you want me to say her, I got it. There we go. We have an album coming out September twentieth. It's our debut album. We got a full fucking tour, so it's gonna be fun. We got a whole year just gonna do a bunch of cool ass shits. So yeah, biggest thing is debut album September twentieth. Go get it, get your vinyls shirts, whatever. Fuck it official vendeed dot com. Nice. I can't wait because your fucking music is we.
21 We also have a new single out right now Serenity, so music video and everything on YouTube. Bendad. Yeah, releasing new music to be killer love it. I have another great question for you guys, Yes, sir, worst interview question you ever got. I don't. I that wait. Me and JJ were fucking where were we Sweden? We were in Sweden and some guy was just being a complete dickhead to us, and he was just asking so many like weird slip knock questions. I mean, like JJ start getting really mad because like it was out of like on fucking purpose.
02 You could just see it in his eyes. He's just like so like two or three of the worst interviews that day, Like they were. Like, all right, we got interviews and we looked at management. We're like, we're never doing interviews with those fuckers ever again. Because the one guy was like, so you only have a couple singles out dead to me and overall we're like, we have. A whole fucking ep out. What fucking idiot. I'm like, you do your fucking research. Bud, Like Jesus Christ, you like want us to be interviewed by you, and you don't even know we have any more music out. So another thing an noise mate that you said and you guys can both testify to in fact, but May is asking you about fucking slipknot. It like doesn't bother me because we I know where we came from. But it's when it's like really deep into slipnock questions, it's.
45 Weird, yes, but you guys are doing things on your own, and yes it would be normal for somebody to want to ask. But still that's another That's another pet peeve of mine is when people don't get the information right because like, the one pet peeve that I have when it comes to certain questions that are asked is when people at what when people like just make the statement during the interview to follow to lead into a question where it's just like, so Griffin and Simon started the band and we're just like, nope, wrong that you. You're wrong, and then just because you're dead. Yeah, and it's like me and Simon didn't fucking start this band together. It was me and Cole, and Cole is actually technically the founding member because he asked me first.
31 He asked me first, and I said, yeah, sure, let's do it. I'd I'd love to do this. And then after that we just we weeded through some shit and we got more members and then eventually we got Simon and then Simon was like absolutely, just fucking hit the mark and like hit the hit the nail dead on and just fucking killed it. And we ever ever since then, we've just been writing and writing and writing and like building our shit. So yeah, it really does annoy me when interview interviewers don't do their research when it comes to like what bands they're interviewing and just kind of assume things. Yeah. Absolutely, And you know what my pet peeve is because I listen to all these other fucking people, okay, and I want to slip my throat sometimes.
11 Oh hold on, these guys are cracking up over here. Well they were taking pictures and holding hands and. Off to see the wizard. Yeah, exactly, it's right behind that curtain back then. So mine is okay, especially metal if you're not a fucking metal head, don't do metal interviews number one, number two. If you're a metal head, you don't need a fucking script. Like I mean, if you need notes, I get that, but don't sit there and go So how can you get your band name? Yeah, like like holding the phone, like scrolling through note the notes app Like I can see that.
52 I like I get it. Just having notes in general, just to kind of keep yourself, uh, keep yourself on top of like the topics and all that. I do that. I'm really hard. I'm really bad with like you know, talking to the crowd and stuff like that. And it's very much to deal with, like social anxiety and uh like just like not really knowing how to talk to a crowd or what's good to say and what's you know, like just taking up too much time. So I just write down little tidbits. I write down like two word sentences. Yeah, on like my set list of just like what's up? How are you? We are? Dot dot dot? Uh next, And like I'd like I keep it very concise and you know, concise and constricted because I know with my ADHD I'm gonna go I will go off on a tangent. I will go off on a tangent and my band will eventually like just walk up to me and be like, shut the fuck up and start the next song. And I'm like, okay, I'm sorry, and you.
49 Know what, But at least you recognize certain things and do something about it post it just like AD's just the way I am. Yeah. Well, I mean like if it, if it helps you, I don't see a problem with it. But also like at some point you need to branch off of it. Like if you have a problem and you have a way of dealing with it, that's completely fine. But at some point you need to start learning to get comfortable with like having that, uh I want to I don't want to call it a binkie. Having that, having that sort of support with you. Yeah, Like and I and I've done it too, like I've I've I've done like I've done certain like fuck our our Europe show that we just did, like after like five, After five shows, I completely stopped writing on my set list and just memorized what I was saying on stage and kept to the script because it was super easy for me to do. So, like obviously, give yourself ways to be able to, like, you know, do your job and like have sort of like a little bit.
56 Of like a plan B when it comes to that stuff. But at some point you have to branch out of it, and you know, let let Mama Burg drop you off of the tree. You know, there it is there, it is. Tell everybody how you hit, how people hit the hit you guys up on socials on the web. Buy your merch most important, because that's the only way you survive. And you guys do have some badass merch and you're welcome, and I, you know, I have a rule. I do have vend that merch. But I have a rule that when I go at festival, I don't wear anybody else's merch that's playing at the festival, because like you're wearing something then you're interviewing another band. Why you want to be wearing somebody else's band? And they all so treat everybody equal.
39 But I do that too, you know, tell them also how to get the new album All that Good Stuff Got our new. Debut album, sell titled, coming out September twentieth. You can pre order the album on like Spotify and everything. We have a link on our Instagram at vended official Official venda dot com. We ought at all go out there and get it nice. Yeah, merch merch, mer. Merched on the website, vinyls on the website, CDs are on the website. Buy that ship, I love it or not? Any final words that we've missed of things you think that listeners need to know. So you're the pipe man, right, I'm the pipe man.
21 Who do you be piping? It's different at every festival. That's the good answer. I'll I'll close us out fucking Jesus Christ in Heaven. Uh. To everyone who's listening, thank you all so very very much for your love and support towards Vendad. We really truly appreciate it. You guys are the reason why we do our job and why we do everything that we can to make you guys happy, and you are, guys are the reason why we are able to do our job. So we really fucking love you guys. So you know, fucking I hope you guys are having a lovely rest of your day. Drink water, stay happy, do what you can and love you guys. And we love you guys too.
06 You fucking rock and thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipemin. We Hey, this is. Vendad and you are listening to the Pipe Man on W four cu Y Radio. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipemin on W for CUI Radio.
