04 Hey, you love them too? Sure one? Why you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of pipe Man on w forcy dot com. West Pompis is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pike Man. Well by you, lay sweet man. Just remember everybody's out here to get some doke, get heavy, always knee some space, young man.
54 It's just pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man w forc Y Radio. And I'm here we trash BANDA. Everybody's trash pandam. Yeah, what the hell was with you guys? May wake up? I thought this was gonna be fun. Everybody say it trash BANDA. There you go. Okay, so right off the bat, I listen. I usually don't talk about band names, but I know there's a funny story about how this happened. So let's tell that funny story, all right, let's yeah, absolutely all right. So this band started in twenty sixteen here in Atlanta. I was living in a house I rented off Craigslist north of Atlanta and Roswell, and there were raccoons sneaking into the dry wall. They were they were crawling all over the porch. They were They would watch TV with us at night.
45 We'd be laying in our four recliners smoking dabs, passing the dab rag around and then the raccoons will be looking in the window watching Cartoon Network with us, and we'd be laughing our asses off. It was grace. I love, it was great, and so that that was Yeah, that's the funny, the funny story behind it. And then also there's a layer of it where I was going through some ship and I was like, hey, maybe I'll pull the pull the pull some songs out of the trash can of my life and try, oh, you know, you know, make some nourishment out of it. You know, that's pretty cool, like a total animal. You know, these crazy raccoons everywhere. Now they're at my new house too, So I don't know what the hell. Maybe it's you, Yeah, maybe me, I might attract follows. Yeah, I had an experience where I had a family of raccoons. I didn't know it until after this happened, living in my chimney. Okay, And so one day I was down in my basement on the phone a business call and had like when those wood burning stoves and it was locked up and stuff, and I see all of a sudden, the like handles starting to turn like it's opening the door, and I'm like, what the fuck is that? So I yelled up to my wife at the time, I'm like, look out the chimney and I just banged on the thing and a family raccoon's like that fucking raccoon was trying to get in and would have had I not done that. There's okay.
14 I'm like, oh that was a little scary. Oh my god, where's all the food in the cupboards? Man? Oh man? Like, could you imagine it just all of a sudden, you're sitting there in raccoon just hops out of your wood burning stove. It would make my day and then you ruined. Yeah, I know you could imagine it because you went through the similar thing. So how's it feel being here at Shaky? Nice? Too, good, fantastic, rad phenomenal. I love how you all have these different tonality words that you use, Like it it just shows the different personalities of all of you. Like that answer right there totally, he said, all your personalities right there from different backgrounds, and it's once you put it together, it's like, whoa, this is nice. Now do you all have different music tastes. Yeah, i'd say so. Um, I'd say, Patrick, you want to I mean, yes, we absolutely do, and we could go into as much detail as you want on that, as much as you will do. Yeah, So it's your world.
17 I'm just living in it. I think we're all very eclectic. I feel like I'd probably listen to more classical music than anything which doesn't reflect in our music at all, and that's kind of yeah. But yeah, all our influences are pretty vast. So like I love, I grew up on classic rock I love nowadays I listened to I listened to a lot of like I listen to, like neo soul. Then back on my my Ericabadou lately she's the Priestess, the Priestess queen and uh yeah, and Eddie van Halen got me playing at the beginning, and these guys have a whole other universe. I used to hang with him. Oh yeah, yeah. Um, I grew up on more like well when I was a little kid, blues, and then when I was like a teenager, got into metal and that's where I learned all of my drumming skills. Nice Matt Grinder from August Burns Red Matt Garsket from Animals as Leaders, Aaron Gillespie from Under Oath, and that's how I really got into drumming. But then as I got older, I stopped getting so pissed off all the time, so I started listen to you more like indie music, you know, Casey Elephant Young a Giant Hipocampus, stuff like that deathcap for Cutie and uh, yeah, so that's kind of my background. So it's funny you brought up August Burns read yes, because that just came up an interview before. Oh really, because if if you you know, remember why I said, I don't usually talk about band names, So before interviewing them, I was like, I don't ask people how did you get your band name and stupid questions like then they're like, well, you're lucky because we fuck with everybody. That asset question says, see
51 that girl right next to you there, she asked us that question. What we do is we tell a different story every time. Yeah, and it's more horrifying, and we do it with complete straight face. And um so they said, so basically what we told her was we told straight face, well, we were teenagers, we were out partying, and uh, basically my sister. She got this new dog named it August, and we decided to lay it on fire and watch it run down the street. And Erico August Burns read oh gosh, oh yeah, and she's like, He's like, you should have seeing the look of her face. Yeah, so there you great band too, great band. I love them. Sure. Um.
44 So I grew up with South American influences. My family's from Argentina, so I grew up with a lot of like Latin influence, and then um, also a lot of UK music in the eighties. Uh yeah, so Big Floyd and Queen, and then afterwards I really got into that, like her music, like early two thousands, like uh and yeah, a little bit by a little bit. I guess it's shaped up a really fucking weird kind of influence. So you know what. I love that though, because say, I love that hearing all the different things. Yeah, because that's what's cool about music today compared to back in the old days where you had to be a fucking gatekeeper and you could only like one thing. I love that bands have blending, you know, influences genres to make something unique.
30 How about you. So when I started, all right, yeah, let me get close to this thing. Sorry, I'm not a microphone holding type of person. I don't sing. You don't ask me to sing. She's just gonna get weird real quick. So my first if we're doing bass things, Bass Parliament Funkadelic is how I started like getting into bass. And the whole Parliament mentality was just its like a massive party. You got thirty people on stage. This guy's wearing a diaper, this guy's wearing a magician costume. The space. It was like, that's how you play bass right there. That's it. Bootsy Baby, it's boots here. It's always on the wine and funk. Funk is how I got into bass. But then you know, you meant Patrick and he's making these songs that are like, oh my god, who thinks of this? Like and I fell in love a little bit. I was like, oh, this is so good, Like I'm so about this. But it has funk there. There are funky moments where I can like put my influence, like I could just interject it for a second and I'm just I don't know. Funk bass is the king.
28 I love it. So there's so many different things being put into this that goes with what I said, creating a unique sound that is just you, which I love because nowadays it's almost like band, specially metal. Like I'm a metal head, So you're talking about metal as there's so many metal bands now that just plug in like this algebraic equation. He's like, that's not fucking metal. Okay, you take the big four thresha Lamb of God like that was like the Yeah, but they you can tell, I'm all the different, all different, like you can tell every metal band, whereas nowadays it's like which band is that? They all sound the same? Yeah?
09 Absolutely, That's what's sad, Yeah, is when they plug it into like like you said, like that that that um that was it just like like the form or yeah, algorithm is completely heavy and it doesn't have that emotion Like metal has got to be raw emotion, whether it's anger or depression or whatever. Anger like metal, it's got to vent something. Yeah, and if you're not venting something in metal, then but although I connect to the cerebral shit too, I'm not gonna lie I like it. Yeah, well tool, Yeah, that's a whole different thing you're trying to. It's almost like mantra. It's almost like yeah, tool is like this exploration of like it's like the dark side of psychedelia. Yeah, it's like a shadow.
50 What would you consider Primus Primis is metal? Now? That is like, that's what I'm talking about. They took though Primus Primus zero percent sucks Primuses ever did? Dude Wayne over what was it Wayne known as Big Brown Beaver. That's a good one. You know, my name is mud. Those are all the those are all the things. Always know his voice, you always know it's I mean. And dude, damn at what was it Woodstock ninety eight or ninety nine or whatever it was. It was. It was fantastic. People throwing mud everywhere, dude surfing on like plywood. It was insane and it was like, but Primus is like, like, that's like to me, like the o g of like different things coming together and everybody just having their own thing and it just combined into one insane band. That's very true. That's very true. But I'm talking metal metal. Yeah, queen, Yeah, respect to queen. Yeah, So how do people reach out to you guys and go to your social go to the website, and most importantly buy your merch because it's the only way artists survived is merch Hell, yeah, I will let you know. Oh yeah, so social.
11 We're most active on Instagram probably that's a. That's at trash Panda legit um our website is trash Panda music dot com. And we also have a separate merch website that's look up It's here dot com. It's very cool, look up up here. Yeah, I had a dream about U's a. That's so crazy. I had his bizarre dream. I think it was a weed withdrawal dream. Probably those are that those are the craziest. But it was so impossibly numinous, but I couldn't ignore it, and I started making stickers that said look up, it's here, and I put them everywhere For a while. I was just like tagging up everything with look up it's here. In the dream, I looked down, I saw him. I saw three backpacks. Weirdly, but it was I was at some kind of art show and I looked up and it was just this landscape, and uh, I don't I don't know if you know this feeling of like a psychedelic landscape or unlike or or in the you know, a numinous dream, you have this feeling where everything's getting elevated, and your whole nervous system is like skyrocketing somewhere.
09 And that feeling started happening. I look up from the ground to the horizon, and as far as I can see, there are all these scribbled signs that I'll say, look up, it's here. Wow. And I tried to look up to the sky, and as I did, I was like rushing out of my body. And then I woke up in a cold sweat, like hyperventilating. And his dream had a huge impression on me, and and so I called my When we started an LC for the band, we called it a perpetual escaton, as in, like the point of existence is always happening now, and the escatan the end of the world in the beginning of the world is always happening now. So it's like this. It's just kind of far out, but I like it. It was a deep impression, you know, and I couldn't ignore it. So I was a dude like in the eighties. Yeah, I would go a Slayer show on Friday night and Dead show on Saturday. Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about. You gotta have both. Yeah, Yeah, I've had Toma Riya.
01 By the way, the sweetest man exists. He is the coolest dude. Wow. Is a teenager used to hang out with them all the time. He is the coolest dude and the coolest of the whole band. Is Lombardo? Really? I mean he's not in well we're retired now but he wasn't. But Lombard and one of the best drummers ever, ever, ever, ever, in my opinion, Um, Kerry King, Yeah, I'm not. It's like he kind of just walks around like his like his ship doesn't think you know what I mean. Yeah, And then I don't know if you know, but it was just recently the ten year anniversary of Jeff dying. Wow. So check this out. I was doing an interview on a tour bus with Mike Muir ten years ago. And you all know who Mike Murror is, right, singer of Suicial Tennessees. Yes, Yes, and h He got a text in the middle of interview, didn't say a word, got up, walked off the tour bus, left me sitting there.
03 Never nobody saw him till showtime when he was on stage. It was the text telling him that Hannaman died and they were tight they were tight, no doubt. Yeah, yeah, and he was. He was the brains behind Slayer too, And you know it's they were the original of bringing people together like the punkin metal, like I was just talking about. When I was a teenager, I was along here, so I couldn't go to punk shows. I've went to punk gigs late lately of bands that I love. Back then, I never got to see like GBH Exploited Discharge. Never got to see him back then because I would get my ass kicked if I went absolutely you know. So yeah, I mean, but in Slayer, Tom and Carry were the metal heads and Dave and Jeff were the punks. Yeah, so that's how you created And again that goes back to what I was saying wrapping up the beginning of the conversation of blending genres, because that was the first time any band had that, you know, where it wasn't all metal heads all this, and that's what became. Like you want to know another good story about thrash, You want to hear another good story about Thrash?
28 Come on. So that first Metallica show ever I was at it was the first ever I was at it. At the end of the show, this dude walks up to me and he's talking to me and he hands me in his business card. I wish I had it today. Oh my gosh, white with blue writing said Metallica power metal because there was no such sance thrash. They were power metal for a minute. Dave must oh wow, oh my gosh. Really cool. Yep what yep? Dad? I know you're looking back now, like, oh god, I didn't know I would that card was. I'm like, you never know, everybody keep that card.
18 You could have probably sold that. I don't even know, you know why I would have done. I would have held onto it, had I had the vision of the future, held onto it. Do an interview with him, and I'm like, I don't know if you remember this, but yeah, presented to him that's like some Nard warship right there, Like, hey, how about this gift? And he's like, where did you get this, bro? You gave it to me in nineteen eighty one. Wow. Wow, that's amazing man. Yeah, such a cool So there are you having. So now, if you guys have a card, I better save it because that that's gonna be you. That's gonna be you guys. Like twenty thirty years, but hopefully you're all still together. It's one of you that's going to be gone. Yeah, we take care of each other.
06 I can tell, like, like I've been around obviously in the music for a while, you can tell that you guys have a synergy together and that's why you are going to go places, because that's the most important thing. Like, you have to have that synergy and like each other, because otherwise, how the hell are you going to spend twenty four seven with each other playing in a band and kill each other exactly? Yeah, that would never work. It would never work. You have to love each other and put each other's feelings and each other's emotions first, and friendship first. Bancome second. I love that. What a great adde toys And I'll finish with a trivia question for him to Steve. Yeah, okay, do you know all the songs on Wish You Were Here and Dark Side? Who they are about? Because they are P's mom or something. No, it's a school, right, think about it? Okay, this one. So to be honest, like I love wish you were hearing Animals or like about to wish you were here? Just that saying right there, you crazy being the keyword that. Oh Sid, it's Sid, It's it's always well, I got the mic, so I'm saying, Sid, Hey, you know how many how many hits did it take? That's who was on fire on the album?
32 Sid Barrett, that's who shine on your Crazy Diamond. That's who it was about. Isn't it ironic that they got famous writing about the person that wasn't in the band anymore? I mean there's how many how many bands have how many bands have become bands after like certain members left the band? Might be the most successful of that. And I'm still a Bond Scott team. I like Brian Johnson, but I'm Bond Scott. I'm also called Diano by the way, and to Bruce, and I love Bruce. I love Bruce. But Killers is the best Iron main album ever? Oh my god, Hey, you know it's all Steve Harris. Let's go well, yeah, it is Steve Harris. He is the freaking bassist ever and he writes it all insane. Yeah. Oh yeah, I'm a Latin boy Peace Cells?
23 Who was p Cells? Oh that's easy, it's Megade. Yeah. Hey, sorry man, we're doing tribute where you know, like, well wait, that was the good latin one. The Latin question would be what band is playing at Welcome to Rockville in two weeks. We're all be at that does not have the original member that started the band? Nope, and that has nothing to do with latin. Sorry, sorry, no no idea. Why Sepultura? That's crazy? Uh funny story. My brother is filling in for Melian and the Sons of Disaster on base in Rockville or at Rockville?
15 Nice? Well what was the band again? CC? So anything else we need to share with the listeners that we haven't covered. Um yeah, we have a new album coming out on May twelfth, and UM it's this Friday. It's called Pandemonium little exclamation mar next to it. Um yeah, so just go check it out and we'll be on tour. Um. This is the second day of our headline tour and um we will be in San Antonio, Texas this Friday. Love it yep. Can't wait for the new album.
57 Everybody's gotta get it. And I'll give you a trivia question now, Okay, ready for you, since you're you WEREN'TO metal? Yes? What metal band from the eighties that doesn't exist today? Okay, this is gonna be hard is related to your new album? Oh my gosh, it's a hard and an easy question. They're not around today and they're related to the album. Yep, give me a hint, give me a hit. I did get bingo. They're called pandam the bottom of the Yeah, that was on the trail. There it is there. See, that's why you need critical thinking skills. There you go, test taker, There you go.
45 I love it over there it is. Yeah. So you guys are good, dude, And see we had some trivia. Some of you did good, some not so much much. I knew the Sid Barrett would. I knew the Sidbarrett would question. Wait, we were both like Sid Barrett right. It should be a shame being a Pink Floyd fan of not knowing that here you dude said that was like the most legendary thing about Oh I'm not the most, but it's one of the most. Well yeah, Well, thanks a lot for being here at Shaking Ease, and thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you for having us. Yeah, thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man.
