PipemanRadio Interviews The Union Underground at Inkcarceration 2025

0:04 Hey, you unto Yes, that's true for. You. Your incarceration America's rock, metal and tattoo bestory. This is the pipe Man here on the aventureds pipe Man W four C Y Radio, and I'm here with. The Union Underground. Of course, that's right. Here at incarceration. Are you guys gonna go to jail today? We are going to jail today. At five o'clock we all get locked up. You've been locked up at five o'clock. So I've been telling this story. But by the way, this is for past crimes, not current ones.

0:45 Well, they'll catch you on the current ones while you're in there. Yeah, So you guys go into the torture rooms because Whalen reeves from a killer's confession. He told me that he filmed the video when they're in one of the torture rooms. He came out and there were scratches all over his body, like with blood, and he's like, what the fuck? It is really. Haunted in there, like they have the the Blood Prison, the Haunted House. You don't know whether it's the characters or real ghosts that are fucking with you. Yeah, I'm looking forward. I'm looking forward to some backscratches. Yeah, right, isn't frequently on his back? Yeah, I'm not sure why, but it happens all the time.

1:35 I don't remember if you guys ever played INC first time? And how cool is it to play at Shawshank. It's fantastic, It's super organized, the crowd's amazing. Yeah. And how about when you played your set there might have been there's a new prison right next to here, there's a new prison right next year, they might have had inmates on the yard. So you guys like Johnny Cash play into the inmates. How cool is that? You're well, if that's how you want to couch it, I love it. Yeah. I will completely agree. With that, as long as are over there and not in the crowd. Yeah.

2:16 So what's going on with you guys lately? What you got going on after INC? That we want to talk about and we want the listeners to know. We are currently on twenty fifth anniversary tour with Spine Shank, Edema and Sixth Sense for the month of July September, we do Lake two and Julian k jumps on with us in a band called carbon Stone, who I talked to earlier. So yeah, yeah, great, guys, We're gonna continue doing that for the year, and then next year we get in the studio, get back in there and like finish up some music for the new year. Nice. What can we expect from the new music? Like, is it more of the same or evolving to something better?

2:59 The new music? What can we expect? It's important to me to have like a continuation of rebellion and not it not be like what would a modern metal version of Union be? Like, That's not interesting to me. So it's continuation of the same vibe, which I think will be perfect timing. To be honest, I love what you said about a new modern version because I think if you're an iconic band like you guys, that's who you should be. You don't need to change and you should do what's true to you as. An artist, right, I agree. I see it a lot. Now. There's a lot of bands, Like there's a lot of metal bands that use like this algebraic equation formula. That's not metal, and that's not being an artist. To maybe be an artist is just expressing yourself the way but you would want to listen to yeah, and then everybody else will love it because you're being authentic and real.

4:01 Sure, totally agree. What's your guys favorite story of this whole musical journey. Or least favorite whole musical journey? Oh? The whole musical journey. Oh, I thought you meant this tour. I was going to pass it to storyteller here. Yeah, the entire musical journey. How many hours do you have? That's a long time. How about how many before you can't go. To where you need to go. The biggest thing you can take from this year is how amazing the continued support is. We had no idea that we're going to come out and have that many fans at that many shows.

4:49 Even last year as well, we had no idea. It's like, hey, let's just go out and do it. See what happens. The reaction has been amazing, especially for a record that has been around that long. Right, we're now like celebrating twenty five years, So. It's fucking insane. It's amazing that that many people still show up and support it prior to new music. Yeah, and that's die hard shit. And I'm gonna confirm that because Billy gave me the first time I met you guys at Blue Ridge, he gave me a Union Underground shirt and I wear it all the time and people are like, oh my god, I didn't even know they're around. I love that band, and it's so cool to hear shit like that because it should be a continuation and the fact that you could come out and come here to incarceration early in the day and all those fucking people were out there, Like, I think that's what it's all about.

5:44 Yeah, right there. It shows that you're doing something right and that you're. True artists because the people that are trying to be rock stars they don't last. The people that are just being themselves and being an artist, they're like you that are playing You're at Ink twenty five years later. Well thank you for seeing that. Yeah, And it's people like you that keep the music alive. Man. Or you're a true fan and the stuff you guys do just like keeps us in the moment. Yeah, it's amazing, And I do believe as press, I should be a fan first, especially in this type of music.

6:24 You know, I don't ever get like sometimes I'll get requests for interviews. I'm like, for outside my case, I'm like, I wouldn't give a good interview. It's not my thing. I'd love to help promote you, but my job's to make you look good. I can't make you look good if I don't think you're good type of thing. And I do see other press people like that that they'll let's take an interview. I only want to interview bands that I think I like and that I would be out there fucking doing it with them. Yeah, that's what it's about. Well, you've been fantastic. Thank you so much. And I know you guys. He showed me he got new shirts. So while we're looking at that, tell everybody how to reach out to you guys on the web and socials and buy your merch because they can't listen to my show.

7:12 And let's say buy your merch right on. So the Union Underround dot com is a hub for everything you can find, all the merch, all the tickets, all the show dates, VIP all that stuff, all the dates for the tour coming up in September as well. So everything Union Underground dot com. Okay, So one last thing, I want all of you to have your own answers. What's your favorite thing about incarceration? For me, it's because I actually grew up in Ohio. Nice so here, I'm running into like a lot of old friends and family that I haven't seen decades, and a lot of them are playing and stuff like that. It's like a family reunion, right, Yeah. It's basically like a family ringing in to me.

7:53 So I'm really digging that part of it nice. I just love the intensity of the festival all the way around on eleven, all day long. It's badass, Yes it is. Yeah, it's on fire. Getting to play live and then also getting to reunite with a bunch of friends we haven't seen and then making. New friends that's it. And fans and how about you. Just hanging here with you, buddy, That's what I love. I'll pay you the money for that answer later. That's a great answer. Slip me that twenty I know. I'll buy you a free beer or something at the open bar. I'll buy you at the. Free beer at the im mediates and perfect.

8:37 Well, thanks you a lot, guys for being there kicking ass, and thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man on w for c UI Radio.
